  • THE NEAR-COMPLETE "LUCKY DOG"
Every time I see this film released on a DVD compilation it is always missing the opening scene (approximately 20 seconds).
Using two different sources of the film I edited the footage together.
Here is the NEAR-COMPLETE version of The Lucky Dog - the first film in which Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy appeared in together; released in October 1921.
The complete version of the film appears on a recently-released Blu-Ray:
    www.amazon.co.uk/Laurel-Hardy...
Fun fact: Stan's brother Teddy has a small role in the film as a butler.

Thanx for uploading this, and regardless of what another says. It was first shown in 1921 like you listed and was the very first time Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy would work together, though during this film they were not yet a team, it wasnt formalized until Hal Roach put them together when he signed both under contract in 1926.

The bad film quality of the time that wasn't able to register the color of Stan's irises makes him look like a zombie

He kind's reminds me of the tin man from Wizard of Oz here. Must have been his schtick at the time. I'm glad he changed it cuz the eye shadow and stuff seems a little... .

I would like everybody to know that on the basis of examination of this film is that it was filmed in autumn and winter in 1920 and released a year later in December 1921 and this was their first appearance together.

Considering they had not worked together before and would not officially team up for another six years their chemistry is INCREDIBLE!!
Check out the 1925 comedy "The Paper Hanger's Helper". Hardy has already created his "Ollie" character. (It is on RUclips...)

    About the missing opening scene.
You know the lack of appearance of the first opening scene in any other prints of the film, makes me wonder if it was originally suppose to be a deleted scene when the film was release.
However the version that you found the scene from. Found the deleted scene and decided to include in their print. Because I notice the version that you found scene from is only the first 6 minutes of the film and it's missing the rest of the 15 minutes.
It also hints that this is the first Laurel And Hardy film and oddly enough they also say that this film was made in 1919.

Siempre he dicho porque a las peliculas mudas no le hacen hablar; simplemente podrian voces a los dialogos de la pelicula segun las escenas y ya.

I believe this was done in 1918(at least according to Leonard Maltin - film historian). Nice to see Oliver Hardy in an early role

This film was made in 1920 and released in 1921. THE REASON PEOPLE BELIEVE IT WAS 1917 WAS BECAUSE STAN LAUREL SAID IN A 1957 INTERVIEW IN WHICH HE WAS MISTAKEN. HIS MEMORY WAS FALTERING DURING HIS HEALTH AT THE TIME.
