You can use your own apple id without any issue. Directly go to apple education store from there add everything in cart. It will take you to unidays website before payment, there you can verify your friends student id. It will get connected to your apple id. After verification you can easily order.

As long is your institution is showing on their website it is included. If your institution doesnt show you can still get the verification done by choosing institution not showing option, add it manually.
