I would have been 10 years old back in 1988. Toronto was great back then and all through the 90s. I remember these trains. The seating was so comfortable.
The Eaton's and Simpson's bags and the Alfred E. Newman graphic seen on the videographer's t shirt in reflection, all memories of a simpler and less complicated time.
Fascinating video, Brian! Nice seeing the Simpsons, Eatons and Bi-way bags. Also no cell phones, no masks and no social/physical distancing. At the time, we didn't realize how lucky we were...Hoping you're well. Best wishes from a fellow former Smith Transport employee!
I remember back in 98' or 99'... I got to be in the driver's seat of an H1! It was out of service but the operator was so nice that they stopped for us and she got to let me put my hand the control! With help of course! Believe it or not, it was on the Bloor-Danforth line! Line 2 known as today! This was also the first time being in the driver's seat of a TTC subway train!
Look at the size of those comfy seats. So roomy and wide. I got to ride these cars in early 2000 when I first came to Canada. They were excellent. Built to last. Should have kept one or two in service. The T1 is not bad but these were great. The only downside was that they had no AC.
RoseTech I believe it was just Simpson’s as there were no Simpson’s sears stores in downtown Toronto, that bag would have come from the Queen Street store. I have one never used Simpson’s bag. I was lucky to have come across it.
they should have sent an H1 car set to halton for display TO biggest work horse, they moved a lot of people NYC keeps some Red birds for historical runs once every so often why does the ttc , they could be kept at the st vincent yard
Subway cars from 1965. Toronto: Wow these are long retired im lucky to have seen one! NYC: Still in service so aging why are they even still here bruh!!!
I love that you filmed people and faces. I totally remember when people looked like this
Thanks, Brian!

Ahh 1988. Best. Year. Ever. 18 years old. There was nobody left on the train once we reached Finch.

It's weird how the H1 cars didn't have a door chime.

Listen to all the people communicating with each other. You step onto the subway platform now, its just silence.
It's called minding your business
So true. Everyone’s nose is wedged to their phone nowadays.
@@MarcusCollins69Yes, nerd. Like you do at your mother’s house playing video games.
Yonge's the stop that needs rectifying, not the Union one..no?
These are like a time machine to the past, thanx

Where's the door chime? Like if you don't have door chime that would be dangerous because it doesn't remind people to stand clear.
Oh the carnage of the dark days before the door chimes! 😉
3:10 ah yes. The M1 cars.

No shortage of beer ads 🤣
Ahhh the “whistle” before leaving. And the tokens. Was on this line today at 5pm. Wasn’t nearly as crowded.
Fascinating to see what has changed and what hasn't! The stations had not really changed at all up until the presto gates were installed.
Rational Raven Bloor station is the most changed of the stations shown in this video.
That’s acualy really good graphics if it was made that long time aog
no, the graphics were added when I put it on youtube.
Wow, cool video. Thx for making! This is the first and only video i've seen showing the now retired ttc h1 subway cars in service. Thx man
I'm not sure but I think I have the same kind of train in another video of mine... ruclips.net/video/ulgLfljzeas/видео.htmlm
@@hardyboy1959 It's 5351, so that would be an H1. You are right :)
Eatons bag i saw Wow! Bi-Way also haha those were the days.
And Simpsons-Sears!

Tyler Buttery i spotted a few Eaton’s bags and one Simpson’s bag!
I'm surprised the H1s don't have the door chimes & I'm also surprised that Line 2 train was mixed with Hawker cars & Montreal cars 😮
the door chimes were a much later addition, it was just two whistles from the mid-train man

Well they cant really bring them back they are already entirely gone.
Stations still look the same until now! They should start making them look futuristic
I don’t know, I really love the old aesthetic of the station. Maybe it’s just me, but it brings a lot of nostalgia
Not everything needs to be modernised
H1 and M1
Yes... And it seems the first few cars of that Bloor train were actually H2 or H4

The R32s are "suspended" for now, but remain on the active roster. PATCO's fleet is from '68.
Some H1’s were selected to be kept active for work cars
Unfortunatly, all h1 cars were retired (including work ones) when the h4's became work cars
I just uploaded a similar video from 2002.
I see your wearing a MAD shirt. 😎
Funny thing is that i still have that t-shirt! Alfred E. rules!!
they had a smoother ride then the H4s more comfortable, the new cars no character to them
