On a case like this with a national audience? I have a sister who does the same job. Financial investigator for Little Rock Arkansas Fed office and a law firm she heads the Investigation Dept of. She said she'd be charging 1.5k an hour because of the staff it requires. That's 12k at 8hrs every day.
She's billing them roughly 3000 a day. That's 9-5. She's not billing them for roughly 1/3 of the work she'd have to do to get this far in 3 months, according to my sister.
She's probably paying out of pocket or the firm is to actually break even on labor here. She's doing them a huge favor.

@@qt1622 Well, the FBI stalled, the IDJ isn't investigating, and nobody else cared enough to go pro Bono. At $400/hr Lori is probably the one not getting paid. Maybe even her number 2.
I get the outrage based on the perception of Lightfoot but it's not correct. The looting and general lawlessness she was in office for happened because she actually enforced the police budget. They couldn't raid the cookie jar so they stopped working the streets.
She, from a corruption standpoint, is clean as a whistle. She took a job she wasn't prepared for. Not necessarily a good look, but she turned off the money printer that has been eating Chicago for 50 years.
She's a class act of an asshole. Not likeable, but good.

$400 / hour? That’s criminal in its self and explain why she took four months to complete the audit.
The audit/investigation is not even completed yet. There is still work yet to be done, information to be uncovered, and evidence to collect. As far as the cost, that's not that far off what an attorney or financial auditor would actually charge for that kind of work. And when the people involved aren't cooperating with providing the documents/data you need, I'm surprised she was able to gather as much as she has in that timeframe. We're talking about 3+ years worth of expenses without the benefit of a subpoena (which she doesn't have the authority to obtain or issue). I'm not a fan of Lori Lightfoot, but I highly doubt the village trustees would have been able to get anyone else to do that kind of work for less.
You are naive. The money brokers, accounting firms and legal firms can charge for this stuff is astronomical. $400/ hour is a bargain and a half.

To be fair, she has a team of people around her who are helping gather and go through all the documents and information they are collecting. So the $400/hr is being disseminated among that team of people. Given the sheer scope of the corruption (and not all the details have even been uncovered or released yet) and the amount of time Henyard has been in power, the village is honestly getting a deal.

You saw her, and her top assistant. Multiply by 6 and that's the team. 400 ➗ 12 isn't a lot. $30/hr if it's evenly split. 400 is for the team, not just Lori.

Not for this kind of auditing job, especially because it's a local government entity. The office I work for pays at least that much to our auditor every year and we were kind of lucky to find one willing to perform that service for our type of organization. AND we still have to do all of the work of collecting and gathering the receipts and other financial information together; they have the 'easy' job of sifting through and checking the numbers. Given that our town is significantly smaller than Dalton and this investigation is covering 3+ years worth of expenses and almost no one involved is cooperating and Lightfoot has a team of people assisting, $400/hour (with some of that going to her team) is not unreasonable.

$400 hr is cheap for that area. From 2022-2024 tiff "spent" 9.60 million. No 6 million grant like she said they got. They are 5 million in the hole now.
