But actually, this is qing gong everyone where every one uses their qi (inner force) to fly or do martial arts... so cinematic license aside, if they cough up blood it's because they hurt their qi... you should also read western medicine hehe
They really did a long flashback. It's still entertaining bec this also shows the settings and characters since it's still early in the series, so I don't mind. However I do wish they just started the drama with the flashback scenes rather than making it a "flashback".
This show is adapted from a novel. In the novel, Yunxi was a poison control specialist in the present day. After an incident she crossed-over in time and basically her soul and memory landed on top of this timeline's Yunxi. Originally, that scar on the face was a huge ugly tumor caused by poison. At present day, they were developing a system that gets implanted in the brain like a chip. This system allows the user to access an encyclopedia of poisons in their minds and it even has a dimensional pocket where things like medicine and ingredients can be stored. Yunxi cured her tumor using these medicine and her present-day knowledge of poisons. Due to China's weird TV show evaluation rules, they can't do all these. They must categorize this show as a specific type and if they were to include all those in the original novel, this show had to be categorized as fictional history, science fiction, as well as time-crossing. So they cut out everything except for fictional history, therefore it needed 3 episodes to explain the scar and stuff.

With the Untamed, you start off confused as hell and don't get clarification until like 30 episodes later. It's so off-putting that it pushes new viewers away.
