Tbh this is the only drama that shows a proper development of love. This is the drama that doesn't have cringe in it and love is realistic... really love this drama.

Prince Qin seems to be all about holding himself upright and doing his task by the rules but why the heck does the emperor and crown prince take it upon themselves to assume he’s fighting them for the throne He be looking absolutely unbothered

I have watched this drama for many times, but I never feel bored. The song is so amazing and I enjoy listening it. I wish I can speak Chinese and learn how to sing this song.
I am only on Ep5. I read that this drama was very popular that two episodes were added. The cast was mainly young as mothers, fathers, uncles, etc. look like brother/sister to their children and younger generation. I understand it has a sweet love story - yes, in period, funky costume and hairdos. It has magic and casual approach that apart the usual addresses of royalties, servants and royalties behave and walk like the modern day with no proper rules of the court.
How can you check his body for the mark? Oh, girl! He gave you a chance (last episode) where he said that either you got out of his room, or went to bed! The answer seems obvious, does it not?! LOL

I had the same experience. I read the novel 2 years ago then tried watching this. I stopped watching after episode 1. During our school break just this month, I tried watching this again. Though I still prefer the events in the original story, I got hooked by one of the scenes where Yunxi was trying to cure Feiyi's stab near his heart. I just love his reaction XD. Since then, I bacame a fan XD
I'd prob agree, I think its because there isn't an over the top of romance in the writing. Pacing and endings in cdramas seem to be hit or miss though more often
