Great video, but i would like to ask you one question. Does it enter in the "calibrating mode" (in which QBrain reads max and min) ONLY if the throttle is max when you plug the battery? If i plug the battery without max throttle it "remembers" previous calibration. Am i right? Thank you.
Alek B When this calibration phase ends, do i have to unplug the battery to start the flight? Does it automatically enters in programming phase If i do not unplug the battery after calibration phase? Thank you.
Tommaso Dall'Arno It does not, once you put the thorttle stick to minimum you are out of calibration/programming and you could go fly. But I recommend to cycle the power so that the ESC initializes regularly with newly calibrated values stored in the memory. Simply said, after calibration you unplug the battery, then wiat a few seconds and then plug it in with thorttle down.
So, if at the end of calibration process (throttle at min) the qbrain is ready to control the motors, how can you start the programming phase? I ask this because from the manual it seems that calibration and programming must be done in sequence. Thank you
Tommaso Dall'Arno No, you can calibrate, then power off, then power on and enter programming mode. But I recommend to use programming card because it is a real hassle to program the ESC via Transmitter, plus you can easily mix up settings (you have to program each ESC separately, so in fact repeat the same process 4 times). With card it is really easy, check out my other video where I demonstrate how to use card to program the ESCs Q brain 4 in 1 ESC Programming with Turnigy programming card
Hello.. Im newbie, and I just wondering for the power conections.. I have a Q Brain 4 in 1 esc and dji naza v2 .. my question .. I need to use a splitter to conect battery- to PMU ( naza power ) and Q Brain at the same time..? Thx.!
Pelonni Yes, you need to connect battery to ESC and to PMU. You can solder them in parallel or use a splitter, but I prefer soldering because it is more secure.
Long Range FPV Quadcopter .TBS Discovery You can connest 2nd hub to the first, this way you would have 7 inputs, or simply do your calibration twice, it is not that big job, is it? ;-)
If one of the ESC is faulty is it possible to replace it with the other brand ESC. I know its not recommended but as I am on a tight budget, will it do the job ?
Adam Keely It is not possible to replace one of 4 ESC here because it is one board. Maybe very advanced expert in electronics would be able to replace some SMD components on the board but majority of users would not be able to do that, including me :)
Adam Keely Possibly yes, because you don't have to use all 4 ESCs from QBrain. But I would be a bit worried that if there is some kind of short circuit the failure could spread across all of them. Maybe it would be better use 4 separate ESCs instead of QBrain, in your case.
I used a few of these they was ok but they dont like 4s they get hot pretty quick,my solution was take it apart and drill holes in the outer case that worked great!
bro. aitn there a way to make those 160A esc go 4 way? these are silly money and can get 160 to 300amp cheap but no 4 way. I need a solution as theres better, cheaper options.
I would say great, it would also appreciate a good view of the passage of the pin locations in the engine, because the video I only see one to three wires in the housing first and then those in a thread can not distinguish colors well and the various alloggiamenti.Quando do the next video if you can send it to me. thanks
You can see what you need in the product manual. Just click the link for product in the video description. That will take you to HK page with this ESC. You will see a nice close up product picture. If that is not enough then go lower on the page and click "Files" tab. Then download product manual e.g. click "Manual in English" and there you will find nice pictures and description of wiring.
To be honest, I have no idea. It's all integrated on one PCB so I doubt faulty ESC could be "unplugged". It works fine so I did not have to solve such problem.
ok where it says the motors, m1 m 2 whatever and it says A B C, do those cables go in some order when connecting to the motors? I cannot get this thing to turn on.
Check the manual, you can find it in Files tab below product description on HobbyKing product page - link in my vide description. But connections are like this: S1 (red) - M1, S2 (orange) - M2, S3 (one with 3 wires) - M3, S4 (brown) - M4. If not sure, simply use one by one and test.
Alek B I figured it out, Thank you. I wasnt asking about the signal wires i was asking about the ABC cables that go to the motors themselves. I did figure it out tho thank you and your video helped a lot.
SasquatchVideos ABC cables are 3 phases - coils of the motor. It does not matter in which order you connect them to the motor. Just connect them and if you need to change the rotation direction of the motor, swap two phases (cables) and it will rotate in opposite direction.
Hello its a very good Video, my Qbrain its so in a perfect condition. sorry my english is very bad. i have a Question fot this Musik Background this is very good for me how can i have this Musik Thank you very match, Jörg
I do not remember, it is from YT free library or some other free music library. You can use youtube to mp3 converter to get this music from this video.
If you want just calibrate ESC with your Tx/Rx then yes. You can even program them using your transmitter, just like Turnigy Plush but you need to program them one by one. It is better to have a programming card to change settings. I am preparing video how to change settings using a programming card.
I am facing a problem, that is at first time when i connected 4 motors using emax 4 in 1 esc then it workd, but the power supply was not equal for each motor, thats why i tried to calibrate the transmiter and motor with the connection of emax, but that time motor 2 and motor 3 working but motor 1 and motor 4 does not working. And when transmitter power on after calibrate then 3 starting beeps coming from motor 2 and 3 but when transmitter turn off then the 3 starting beeps coming from motor 1 and 4. Now how i can solve this problem, pls help me
First of all I would check the programming settings of each ESC. Make sure they are all the same. The easiest way is to use programming card and check and see if each of the ESC has exactly the same settings, maybe reset each ESC to default factory settings. After that try to do the calibration again. In this step double check you connect each ESC correctly to the control hub like in my video. It is easy to make a mistake. Mind the polarity of the cable and make sure all signal wires are correctly positioned. I often incorrectly connect the ESC signal wire, so that is the most common mistake.
Yes, you have to use blheli as they use the Silabs chip. SimonK is for Atmel. I did not do it, so you have to search how to flash this ESC, but it is definitely possible.
@Multimadmanable First of all, please enable replies in your profile settings when you comment someone's video. Secondly, I never said this is hard to do, but it helps to people when they see how are things done, even it is simple thing to do. Also, there is nothing tricky about programming this ESC, one just needs to do one by one. I never said this is programming in my video, this is just throttle calibration procedure.
You don't, but then you have to use throttle stick and program each one separately, which is a bit clumsy. I am preparing a video how to program them using a programming card. It is not possible to program them all at once, but one at a time, so 4 time the same thing...
Thank you! Wouldn't have guessed the manual calibration would have worked. This is probably the second ESC setup for me that worked first try haha
Great it worked for you :)
Great video, but i would like to ask you one question.

If i plug the battery without max throttle it "remembers" previous calibration.
Am i right?
Thank you.
Yes, you are right. It goes to calibration/programming mode when it s maxed at battery power up (you plug in the battery)
Alek B When this calibration phase ends, do i have to unplug the battery to start the flight?
Does it automatically enters in programming phase If i do not unplug the battery after calibration phase?

and what if you have 2 x qbrain and are using it for a Hex X which has 6 motors your hub only has 4 place holders so how would you calibrate that?
Long Range FPV Quadcopter .TBS Discovery You can connest 2nd hub to the first, this way you would have 7 inputs, or simply do your calibration twice, it is not that big job, is it? ;-)

Sorry I meant adding on an Esc like a turning plush with the same amps for the one faulty Esc?
Adam Keely Possibly yes, because you don't have to use all 4 ESCs from QBrain. But I would be a bit worried that if there is some kind of short circuit the failure could spread across all of them. Maybe it would be better use 4 separate ESCs instead of QBrain, in your case.
Bro i need your help I tried to connect dji naza v1 to mamba Dshot600 4in1 esc but its not working please help its works well with simok escs
I am sorry, I do not know that esc, but I would try to calibrate it normally first, without the flight controller just to make sure it works.
I used a few of these they was ok but they dont like 4s they get hot pretty quick,my solution was take it apart and drill holes in the outer case that worked great!
Nathan Swisshelm Thanks for tip. I fly it on 3S and have no problem.

If you need to control each ESC separately, like you do in quadcopters, then you need 4 ESCs, not one powerful.

Is the Q Brain made and sold by HK only?
I have no idea, probably not, but I guess they have the best price. it could be sold under different name as rebranded product. Try some searching.

thx for the asnwer. 25amps inclusive?
mario corredor Yes.
Thank you very much. Im spanish, my inglish is bad, sorry. :) One more cuestion only. For the esc hobbywing quattro 25a also posible?
mario corredor I think so, they seem to be identical with Q Brain series.
