Wow. I’ve never heard a recording of this where someone actually did all those grace notes in the 6th movement so clearly. The entire thing was very clean and nicely in tune. Amazing! Best recording I’ve heard
Im playing this song right now and i love it. Janine Jansen is amazing!!!! this is one of the best versions of this piece that i could find. great interpretation and emotion. this was truly what bartok had in mind when he wrote it. and everyone who is saying that she is moving too much is dead wrong. Music is supposed to be played with emotion and the artist should enjoy the music which she obviously is doing. bartok should be played with emotion. this was beautiful. my favorites are 2,3, and 4.
Janine Jansen is very expressively performing this wonderful music, it´s folk music of best manner and I like it the way she does it at this event ! Congratulations to Amsterdam for such a nice festival !
It dosent matter where your from, where you play the piece, or who you are, A great violinist can understand and perform a piece in any style, and Janine Jansen is no question a great violinist and musician.
ah typical Janine, playing so beautifully and as soon as the fast mvts. come in she just goes for it and slams it, not afraid of breaking some bow hairs. I absolutely love her playing so much and her immense passion. I have to admit I play a majority of my pieces with her as inspiration. A world class violinist and performer. Bravo Mrs. Jansen :)
Amazing. What an incredible setting to both hear and play this piece. Her dress fluttering in the breeze during the third movement at around 1:50 matches the mood and the music perfectly.
me encanta como ella toca!!! no hay cosa que haya escuchado de ella que no me guste! sus interpretaciones son fabulosas, y esta no es la excepcion!!! me encanta!!!!
bright, intense, marvelous, i dont find the words, exelente, bravo etc.... PD: what a cold public, europeans dont lose the ability of astonishment, so much musical history to feel...
I love how she plays Bartók. I remember there was another performance of her on RUclips, playing Bartók Romanian Folk Dances with a piano accompany again, it was at Tokyo and the year was 2016 If I'm not wrong. Whatever that video has taken down and I cannot listen it anymore. I like that one better, she was playing more clean and soothing. Since it wasn't an open air performance, the sound quality was better. I would be pleased if anyone give me a link to buy the DVD of that performance. I couldn't find it anywhere on the internet. Or could someone upload it again?
The movement and expression make her performance ten times more alive. Yes, it's about the music. But in the end, you go to a live performance for the personality as well as the sound. You don't close your eyes and listen at a rock concert, why would this be any different? She's done a beautiful job here, so much variation in tone.
Lol, i thought i did a good job on the third part until hearing how she played it. I thought mine sounde dlike a whistle but hers...amazing...looks like i'm going back to practicing it;p
that was absolutely amazing... I am currently playing this piece, and this is an inspiring vid! =o she rocks lol and who cares if she moves. close your eyes and listen. it was amazing. =) that's what really counts
Me Gusta. Saludos a todos.
@777Jubilee153 The basic is romanains folk tunes, they were arrenged by Batók, And many case the people can not recognise in the deep music the origin. So this music is classic music composed by Bartók based on romanains folk tunes. This is corrent.
His mother (Paula Voit) was German-origin, his grandmother (Katalin Boskovic) was Serb-origin, his grandfather was Hungarian-origin. He was born in Sannicolau Mare (former Nagyszentmiklós, Austria-Hungary, now Romania). And? I think it didn't the most important. He was a great worldfamous composer - that the important! We should be happy over what he gave to the world, Romanian and Hungarian cultures, not arguing over his nationality, and hurt other nations with it.
I'm used to hearing several of these played in different keys and with slightly varied timings and melodies, but I guess that's kind of the point of "folk" music, right? Variation! :) Janson does a fantastic job. It baffles me that the audience isn't on its feet clapping and dancing by the end of the fifth!
Janine Jansen is not from Amsterdam. She is actually from Soest, my hometown ;) It's in the exact geographical centre of our country, The Netherlands :)
Hey people Bartok was born in Banat, which was in those times in Hungary, but with many romanians and other peoples. Bartok appreciated multiculturalism and he appreciated the music of many peoples. Let's learn from his openess and stop argueing in nationalistic debates! an admirer of both Romanian and Hungarian culture
Very nice interpretation. Certainly live performance add a lot of excitement particularly for this piece. Although many players these days would play this faster, tempo is right where I feel comfortable.
@Pro4Net Both Bartok and Ligeti were very Romanians. Remember, this is Bartok most famous piece. I´m not denying their roots. They were Hungarians, but with Romanian soul. Romania in music , poetry and art is equally great as Germany and France. Just beacuse Romania is not famous, dosen´t mean it dosen´t justify it´s greatness.
Still listening to this in 2024
Terrific. Bartok would be so pleased with this performance.
AMAZINGLY CLEAR HARMONICS !
OMG Those are like the most amazing harmonics I've ever heard!
Wow. I’ve never heard a recording of this where someone actually did all those grace notes in the 6th movement so clearly. The entire thing was very clean and nicely in tune. Amazing! Best recording I’ve heard
I listened to this amazing music a few years ago. Now, I finally found it.
I think that no “Romanian folks dance” is better than this movie.
Nobody has performed it better than David Oistrakh.
Im playing this song right now and i love it. Its a piece not a song haha
She's amazing....... I can't believe this!!!!!!!
Janine Jansen is very expressively performing this wonderful music, it´s folk music of best manner and I like it the way she does it at this event !

Wow!!! I've head lots of versions of the Romanian Folk Dances, but that is one I'll remember! I'd put it up there with Bartok's own piano version.
been coming back to this for 10 years :)
It dosent matter where your from, where you play the piece, or who you are, A great violinist can understand and perform a piece in any style, and Janine Jansen is no question a great violinist and musician.

Thats the idea! Cheers!
My favorite Bartok.
@LUISCARLOSBAEZPARDO2 Saludos de la Romania ! Viva Mexico!
Qué grande, tocar al aire libre es una mierda con acústico, el sonido se va y más cuando tocas armónicos! Muy grande.
Janine Jansen is not from Amsterdam. She is actually from Soest, my hometown ;)
It's in the exact geographical centre of our country, The Netherlands :)
So schön, wie noch nie!!Unglaublich.Welcher Pianist spielt mit Janine?

@Mar1vs
YES TRANSILVANIA MEANS ROMANIA, IS A REGION SUCH PROVENCE OR NORMANDIE FOR FRANCE, or TURINGIA, BAYER FOR DEUTSCHLAND

QUEEN👑
Bartók Béla was Hungarian and he lived in New York from 1940 to 1945.
