I REALLY wanna do an S38 build for my E36. I see it at the PINNACLE of BMW's inline 6 motor before they started using variable timing. Everyone does the s54 build and one of that motors biggest issues is the vanos. I know the simplicity would be the s54,but just imagine N/A 321hp and this sound comin out an E36...
@@durtcobain5167 lol...the US spec s50 is a joke,my motor already puts out essentially the same power with a few minor mods(intake, cams,MAF,injectors and tune). Finding a euro spec s50,importing it and rebuilding it would cost 3x what an s38 would. Which leaves the s54 which besides EVERYONE doing it,after rebuilding it would be about the same cost as the(if not more)than a s38. Finally u get a motor that isn't known to have rod bearing issues and more importantly vanos issues. Also in terms of originality it also major scores points. Right now I'm enjoying mine as is,but I know a motor build is in the 10yr plan...why do what everyone else does?
It depends on what you want out of the vehicle. You can VANOS delete an S54 by locking the camshafts in the high RPM position, such that the exhaust cam is advanced and the intake cam is retarded. Yes, the low RPM performance will be lame, but as the revs climb, you'll find those settings to be VERY enjoyable as the revs climb. If you want a glorious airbox sound, get camshafts with more duration and set them such that the engine develops a somewhat rough idle at 850 RPM.
Hi pal,i was wondering if i can use this clip in my e34 acceleration and sound comparison video.Maybe a 20-30sec clip from yours.I will put your link to the video and your name in the credits.Hoping for your consideration.😀
S38 peaks at 335hp, the M60 from the 540i only peaked at about 280hp, I suppose they were just better at tooling I6s back than rather than V8s so they just waited until they could develop a properly high output V8 for the M5
Not a fan. I have an e28 M5 and an 39 M5. Stock exhaust w/o a cat on the '88 and the 2001 has a rear muffler delete to straight pipes and neither sounds like a Japanese car like this one. Sorry . . .

Get the e36 m3 then lol. S50 is a better engine anyway.

S50b32 or s54 is the best optimal swap, but i love s38 even though they are heavy engine's the character and sounds are from another word.
