- Peter Gabriel's Full Moon Club update for April 2023, where he discusses the launch of i/o, the fourth and title track of the forthcoming album.
Listen to the full track i/o from Thursday 6 April: lnk.to/PG21
Deep Dive into the tracks from i/o on Bandcamp: petergabriel.b...
Written and produced by Peter Gabriel, i/o was primarily recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire and The Beehive in London. The song features Soweto Gospel Choir, who were recorded at High Seas Studios in South Africa.
'This month the song is i/o and i/o means input / output. You see it on the back of a lot of electrical equipment and it just triggered some ideas about the stuff we put in and pull out of ourselves, in physical and non-physical ways. That was the starting point of this idea and then trying to talk about the interconnectedness of everything. The older I get, I probably don't get any smarter, but I have learned a few things and it makes a lot of sense to me that we are not these independent islands that we like to think we are, that we are part of a whole. If we can see ourselves as better connected, still messed up individuals, but as part of a whole, then maybe there's something to learn?'
i/o as a potential album title has long-been known within fan circles, and is now the name of the current project, the album and the forthcoming tour, but as Gabriel says, 'It's been around for a long time as a title for this project. I always knew I was going to write a song called i/o, but the title came first.'
i/o sees Gabriel working again with Soweto Gospel Choir, who previously featured on the song Down to Earth that was recorded for the film Wall-E and who he’s also performed with twice in South Africa at events for Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu;
'I didn't always hear the Soweto Gospel Choir on this song, but every time I've worked with them it's always been fantastic. You can just feel the energy whenever they sing on this record, and on the song I did for Wall-E, it's just joyous. It hits you in the heart.'
Continuing the theme of working with a different artist for each song release, this month’s track is accompanied by a cover image featuring the work of Olafur Eliasson, who is someone Gabriel first met when the artist was launching his Little Sun Project.
'Olafur Eliasson is an extraordinary artist who, in many ways I think, is the king of light. A lot of his work is to do with light and with nature and I really felt that for this song in particular he would be absolutely perfect and I was delighted when he said, yes. This piece is called Colour experiment no. 114, from 2022.
I think Olafur is a mixture between artist, scientist and magician. He always has a mission and something to say about the world and nature and light and our experience of it and that helps us to reconsider how we interact with our environment.'
Just like the previous full moon releases, i/o will come with differing mix approaches from Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Bright-Side Mix), released on 6 April. Tchad Blake (Dark-Side Mix) and Hans-Martin Buff’s Atmos mix (In-Side Mix), released later in the month.
As well as new music, Peter Gabriel will embark on a tour later this year. Dates in the UK, Europe and North America are on sale now. livenation.com / petergabriel.com

You are not old, Peter, you are eternal!
@Marj That is also true.
Thanks PG, you've made the world such-a-much more beautiful world to live in
@@ericbeal6899 Indeed!! I agree completely!
@@Spiritdove63 Yes, calling oneself "old" SHOULD be a term associated with wisdom, but unfortunately in contemporary society it typically means someone is past their prime and no longer relevant. To combat this, as you have pointed out, I'd replace old with the adjectives "wise," "honored," "well-respected," "revered," etc. This will shut down the negative quips from younger generations who continually believe their brand, attitude, and ideology are far superior to those of their elders.
No, please. Simple young from more time!
Oh lieber Peter Gabrial. Nun sind es schon 50 Jahre her Deine Musik zu hören.
Habe mehrere Konzerte von Dir besucht.
Was für eine secret world it is.
Over 50 years since I first heard Peter's voice and it never fails to move me.
Just the same to me
same, thank you.
私も同じです!
I'm sorry for your loss. Is so beautiful your connection about the flowers and your daugther. I believe is a sign also. Peace and love for you.
Going to see this man in Toronto in September can’t wait
I could listen to Peter talk all day long-Brillant man indeed!
Gabriel imparting some great chunks of wisdom with this album!
Thank you very much Peter for all that you have given us, with Genesis, in solo, with your unforgettable voice, your great talent as a composer, as well as your humanitarian actions. You are a beautiful and eternal person.
My daughter died by suicide on January 13th 2022. I also believe in something bigger. I asked her a sign today. My daughter and I saw one of Peter's shows in Québec city a few years ago. I came upon this youtube video and what was my surprise to see Daffodils in it. Daffodils are one of her favorite flowers. I take it as a sign from her. Plus just the theme of this song. Synchronicity at work.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family can find peace and enjoy the music.
I think the loss of a child is the most terrible thing that can happen in life, also because it is absolutely against nature. I hope that this song, these flowers, this strange coincidence, at least today and all the times you will be hearing this song you can have some relief.
As a mother, I am close to you and I hug you tightly.
Silvia
Definitely a sign from your daughter! Blessings to you xxx🙏💚🎶
Those of us who understand love, we know we will always have each other. Bodies aren’t forever, but life and love is..!
Eternal life that Jesus mentioned is interpreted incorrectly….we will live with our loved ones many many times across time and space.
Not to mention we are reunited at the end of our lives. Our higher selves are infinite and able to be many places at once…that’s how it’s all able to work. I know you feel cut off here. It’s just an illusion that ends before you know it. Be at peace…keep the love alive in your heart, it is felt and shared up through the higher planes to our loved ones. Be at peace. Much love and much respect….Tom
My wife of 17 years told me that she wants to be separated, I can’t get my daughter,11 , to do anything with me, she is slightly autistic, so I guess I understand that she just wants what she likes.
My 26 year old son just got married, I found out from my sister, who lied to me and said …well he didn’t tell his mom either, but that wasn’t true. My mom passed last may. My birthday passed by on the 23rd while I sat at her bedside…she died on the 27th.
Four months later, my best friend since elementary school, shot him self. He’s not here anymore…I still can’t believe it.
I’m fresh out of people that cared about me. I don’t know what to do next. It feels like my life is over. I’m actually scared that I may die any day now, because nobody wants or needs me anymore….I hope that’s not how it works! I still want to have good days again. I’m still struggling with opiate addiction from when I broke three disks in my back many years ago. I feel broken, alone , unloved, and very scared. Can we pray for each other? I bless you and your happiness. Tom
So so beautiful ❤
Peter…you have been on my bucket list to see and experience . I ,in past life have always missed seeing you live . ….Europe and Asia . Finally ,have tix to see You in Buffalo , NY 9/22/23 . …can not wait ! !!!!!!

Hero’s would be ultimate highlight !
Waiting for 9/22/23 in Buffalo,NY !!!!!!!
THIS genius is WHY his shows ARE so fucking spectacular!!!!🙌❤️😭 He makes me weep!!!🙌😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
During the darkest days of COVID lockdown I spent many hours listening to the artists I most admire and mourning the missing live music absent in my life at the time. I was particularly sad about all the wonderful musicians I’d not seen and feared I’d missed forever. Peter you are top of that list and I’m beyond excited about seeing you in Austin in October
One of my serious inspirations and musical influences . . . he Shocked The Monkey!
IO is yet another masterpiece created by Peter, God bless and long live. Your music and work will last forever.
We are all connected, we go on, eternal, trees are our friends so yes we should give all we can back to the Earth as you give through your thought provoking, amazing music you create. Thank you. 💖🌟
hello Peter. I've been listening to you since I was 13 years old... And just thank you for all your vertical transmission. Thank you. I love this presentation that you do. Logos= Maniwa= art = knowledge and ecstasy of the Being...
we are old - but we´ve learned - thanks a lot!
This is really a song from the heart ! Already, now , goosebumps ! We’re a part of Everything!
I have alawys heard in your voice that you and us are all connected, there is something so earthy that reminds of my atoms are all entwined on this earth. I was hoping to see you in connert this year but life does not lend that opportunity. There sits peace when I am in company of the acceptance of the marvel of our time here.
8:15 Family and the fishing net is one of my favourt songs of all time, though i confess that i didn't like it at all when i first heard it (I was quite young) but my older brother kept playing it in the background and it drove me nuts at first lol, but in time i grew to love it, same with the lamb Album :)
Gabriel Peter , the best ❤
Dear peter,
I've been following your musical life/work since I was 18, that is really many years (I'm over 60). It's always a joy to hear you and see your performances (in video).
During the ups and downs of life your music made me company
Thank you!
Just heard you mention Davos!!!! Heaven help us then.
Love you. Thanks.
Cher Peter Gabriel !
France 🇫🇷 Avril 2023

Oh Peter! You are such a force of nature. Thank you for sharing your art and vision. Love you ❤
Well said.
Peter Gabriel, thank you for your incredible music, presence, consciousness. You bring light to this world and certainly to my life for the last 50 years. Good to see you at Anna’s book signing in London

Great interview - Peter, see you at the concert in Krakow! We are waiting for the effects with white light!
See you on April 18!
FULL. BLOWN. PERN.!!! Love you Peter, stick around for a lot longer.
Voice, musicality, technology, originality make him unique together with D. Bowie... they are unique in everything.. Long life for everything...
Wow, your voice is pure gold and emotiveness. Always makes me cry like a baby unless I prepare and brace myself first. Thank you, kind sir.
Thank you for everything you have given musically and intellectually and socially 💕
thank you peter for that firmware update of my life. ❤ see you in munich.
Thank you Peter
I googled Peter Gabriel tour not really expecting anything. Oh boy, I am stoked. Can't believe I would have seen him in the 80s, 90s and in 2023.
Going to Amsterdam to my 3rd PG concert :) . Musical Genious, thank you ❤
Love you Peter.
Can't wait to see you live again Peter and to hear the new tracks and classic songs at the 02 Arena on Monday 19th June - we are in the 6th Row, A2 block. We are I/O !
I have designed and wired recording studios since 1980 and I have met many famous artists. I helped wire Peter's first studio in 1987 followed by three others years later and some stuff for the Secret World Tour in 1992 (I saw the rehearsal in an aircraft hanger at RAF Benson which was fab).
Out of all the artists I have wired studios for, I must say that Peter Gabriel is the nicest chap I have met and very humble. Steve Winwood is number 2 position perhaps.
From Jim Lassen, 66 year old UK drummer and a big fan of Manu Katche.
Thank you Peter. Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱
Cannot WAIT to see you in September at MSG. I have been listening to your music since Genesis days and my first time seeing you live was Woodstock 94. Rock On!☮️❤️🎶
Greetings from Tübingen, Germany, Mister Gabriel. You don't know me but I know you well: first of all I am a fan of you since 1988. I'm a collector of your albums and I adore your music. And I am the very man who generates the CD-ROMs with the pictures you need to take with you for furher purposes. I would love to meet you sometimes when you are back in Germany. But my bosses never ever are going to allow me this. I wish you all the best for the future. Keep making your heavenly music. And stay healthy! May God bless you.
You've inspired me for pretty much my whole life Peter... dating all the way back to Genesis, and then just never stopping. You've been on my radar since then and it's been great watching your evolution. It's made me a better musician in general. I started as a guitar/vocalist in alternative bands in the late 80s, since then I've evolved into a studio artist... exploring different instruments, music from other cultures, I'm more into synth based music creation... still incorporating analog, but taking advantage of Native Instruments, Steinberg and many other plugins that have expanded my sound. This all came from your inspiration, watching you use these tools and being inspired by the art you've created with them. Peace and love to you.
Thankful Mr Gabriel 🤩👍'
Brilliance with a huge heart 💓
Tears, tears, and more tears …Yes, yes, I felt my boundaries dissolve as I listened and my heart melt. This song expands and merges us!
Bless you, Peter.
Just beautiful! Thank you Peter.
😊
Peter, thank you for the many years of over the top transcendent music. You are truly one of a kind in the best way!
Interesting words of wisdom from a BRILLIANT artist, Mr. Peter Gabriel. The video is very beautiful as the property it was filmed on is. I am looking forward to hearing all of i/o live later this year. I know it will be an amazing dream come true for me, and many others. 💖
Gabriel. En su esencia al estilo lamb líes on Broadway brillante!!!
P. G. , you are a wonderful Human. You enrich my life since 1973 . Thank you so much. It means a lot to me.
As we get older, we switch our thought process towards nature and to what Peter Gabriel talks and sings about.
Still, it's interesting to see the conflict - at least the way I see it - he and many of us are surrounded by the supermodern musical instruments and technology in an attempt to come closer to that ever elusive motive of nature - we got so far removed from it that it is a great struggle to give up the technology that enables him to create that great, naturally flowing music.
I see it as great paradox.
I don't listen to Peter Gabriel 's music too often anymore but every time I do, I question myself why I don't do it more often. He is a master of creating music that speaks to us.
It's fantastic that Peter is still making music. Despite him having written many hours worth of music between Up and now, I feared that he would never release another album. I am happy to see that my fear was for nought. Many you live many more happy, healthy years, Peter. I enjoy most everything you've done from 1967 to present. Oh, and if I/O is a fair example, I'd say that your vocals sound as good or better than they did on Us. Bravo for taking great care of your voice.
Thank God for the opportunity to have listened to your music when I was youth. Untill your name is connected with Steve Biko in my mind. The vibration of your voice asking: where's Biko! More than international solidarity, more than artistic commitment, in my opinion then. The video clipe was like a document for new generations. And, I wasn't thinking in you, but yesterday was The Earth Day. I could write more, despite English isn't my languagem. knowing more about your commitment with the sustenaibility of the Life from this project necessary for our days. Congratulations for this contribution. Thank you for your time, your lucidity and your generosity. The olders and wise have many things for teach us. I became a teacher, but we, the teachers need to be learning for the whole live as any human being. You are sharing your best in a moment that others are needing this perceptions and a accessing this knowledge. I'll keep paying attention to the project and sharing after the translation. Thank you and your team.
God Bless You Peter Gabriel ! Your expressions on the topics you spotlight has moved my heart and soul as well as spark my mind ! For all the decades- THANK YOU !!!
Always amazed at your new musical creations Peter. You have been an inspiration for me and many songwriters and other creative minds that love your imagination.
These videos need to be on the deluxe box set. I am hoping that there is special box set for people.
Your wisdom continues to inspire. Your creativity and your voice are so unique and powerful… you and your work will always be timeless.
I absolutely love this guy and His Music from Genesis to revelation all the way through I/0. Just an Amazing person who happens to be An amazing singer songwriter and musician and preformer . Thanks for everything Peter 👋👍
There’s something incredibly reassuring about connection. Separation is loneliness and despair. And it’s a fact. We are a part of everything. Thank you, Peter Gabriel, for your curiosity and finding ways to bring these ideas to a musical form. 🙏
massively talented songwriter, performer and singer this man. i have idolized him since the first Genesis album (especially The Lamb)so unique.
Thank you For that.
Peter, I’m a singer, songwriter, musician about the same age as you. You have been a beautiful influence beyond description on me and my writing for years. Thank you.
One of my newest songs was completely inspired by you, and when I sing it I often imagine how you might sing it and let that guide my delivery. In a beyond perfect world Ive imagined you producing this and other of my songs I’ve written - my lyrics & energetics totally align with the world you describe in this video. I know there little chance of that, but in the meantime I’ll borrow inspiration from your music & wisdom. It is a treasured gift you bring to the world!
All the very best to you and the band on your io tour. 🎵
I read your comment.
Agreed 100%. We would do well to always have that in mind. Scientist was recently able to detect that plants make sounds when dehydrated or stressed. We are so oblivious to the many things we have in common with each other and also nature.
I actually think Peter is carefully choosing his words to tell us about the most important task of the current generations. Polarisation influences every other major problem we currently face, because the further we distance ourselves from "others/enemies", the less likely we are to cooperate on the solutions we need. The more people are willing to believe lies that fit their own group's agenda and further demonize the other side. I so hope we can find ways to relate to everyone around us, even those that seem the furthest away from us.
In my eyes ,you are so very loved, in every version ..thank you for being a hugh part of the tuch of grace here in this universal dream 🙏💗
Thanks for the I/O insights, Peter. As a life long land manager, I know that good stewardship of our natural resources requires us to be humble, to see, to feel, and to listen so we might understand. Spreading your discoveries through your music opens hearts to that understanding. As a musician, I know this to be true. God bless you, for you know the first stage of awareness - "more than this. . ."
Hola Peter seguís siendo una persona muy sencible te felicito adelante adelante saludos desde Costa Rica 🌱👊❤
Thank you so much Peter. I worked with you in 76 when things were a bit on the lean side but the music was so so beautiful and guided me into a creative direction that I still travel on today. You are a genuine soul. So looking forward to I/O my friend.
You may be older than a few years ago, but every time I listen to your music I feel as young as the first time I heard you 40 years ago. Thanks for ever Peter!
You are deeply loved/appreciated 🙏💜🕊️
Mr Gabriel, thank you for all what you have done, for years. You are a good companion, today and yesterday.
Just so spiritual Peter❤

I'm very impressed with your capacity to make such beautiful songs and your voice sounds amazing, you are a legend, thanks for being the amazing human being you are ❤️
Unique, unattainable, constantly growing and evolving, whatever Peter does is always different and better than the previous one. A volcano of ideas, even innovative projects such as Panopticom. Generally talking, full of positive values and thoughts. In the end, a voice that enters me, a music that includes everyone and everything, which I have always listened to in these 50 years and more, and that will continue to accompany me, forever.
Thanks Peter 🙏
One day can I visit the studio as I walk past wistfully!
Wow! This is so beautiful! My first time here. My name is Trinity. I work at Sadhguru School... a school for rural children in the most picturesque part of Uganda ...We are all a part of everything...This resonates so well with the ethos of the school. Am sure you would love it here and would make an amazing mentor for the school and the children! This is me putting the ashes in your living oak tree believing that you will respond. 😊
