QUE GRAN CARRERA SALUDOS DE MEXICO

This was the result of Gerhard training for two months at altitude before this race. He said so himself. If people want to beat Nino they need to spend longer amount of time at altitude training and building more red blood cells. More red blood cells equal more oxygen delivery and great performance capability. I was a high altitude mountain guide for many years and know that I'm talking about. you need time at altitude to build red blood cells. Even at three months at altitude you still haven't built 100% the amount that is possible. Maybe 75-80% . Your body is also balancing its acid alkaline balance which is also critical to maximum performance. People who climb mountains take more time to build blood cells by making sure when they arrive at altitude and are exposed to it , their exercise is light to moderate at first, then heavier as more blood cells are made. You also lose these cells about the same speed you make them, once you decrease your altitude because they are no longer needed so your body sheds them. No sense at all to go too low between races, as recovery has to be balanced with retention of cells for the next race. As to the theory of coming to altitude at the last minute and competing, that doesn't make any sense from a physiological standpoint.
. I heard a commentator say to "sleep low right before the race" but that is actually only half the original climbers quote which said "climb high, sleep low" and meant climb higher than you set your camp to sleep. In other words you still have to go higher first, train at a light to moderate level of fatigue. then descend a little to sleep. In the biking world this equates to training at a higher altitude than you sleep. But train a little higher than you sleep each night.
Then as you build more cells in a few days, you pick up your training intensity. This will make sure you are building the maximum number of cells in the amount of time you have to do so.

Since the bars are so wide now, do they tailor the forested trails so that the trees are not too close?

UCI dictates a minimum distance between obstacles and overall trail width, most wide bars still aren’t wide enough to really cause a problem
