@Pfsif she was bad ass.. idk about luck her husband was hurt during the freakin depression. Back then women didnt work. She single handledly saved her family from losing everything. I dont see it that way is all lol. plus her bread was just that good
My late husband worked for PF for 34 years. They were very good to their employees and always used top of the line ingredients.

I remember the Pepridge Farm square chocolate layer cakes. They were frozen and you simply let it thaw then served. Mom would get one to serve after Sunday dinner when we were expecting guests. They were terrific.
Found the white one at family Dollar in Ohio, no grocery store in the town
They still sell them in Nashville. Excellent.
So good!
Now they are made with junk ingredients. The chocolate fudge one is so chocolatey that you can't tell. The last white one with coconut I bought was barely coated with coconut.
I commented that I finished one off while watching the video. They still make them.
Famous French chef Jacques Pepin made a video dealing with how to put together a Thanksgiving dinner. When it came to stuffing, he unabashedly used Pepperidge Farm. "It tastes good.," was his rationale. Thank you, Pepperidge Farm and Jacques Pepin for removing an element of guilt from the whole T-giving dinner prep ritual. And thanks, Recollection Road for another well-researched video.

I grew up in New England. Pepperidge Farm was a premium brand with the best bread product. The crumb and slight firmness made their bread ideal for sandwiches and for toasting. The Anadama bread was superb; even the plain white was a cut above any other brand. (And I still eat Goldfish!)

Pepperidge Farm was the only kind of bread my mother would buy-particularly the wheat bread. I got to see the whole Norwalk factory operations when I worked there one summer.
It’s funny, but this video made me nostalgic for 1930s Connecticut-many decades before I was born.
Love their Cinnamon Swirl bread toasted with my morning coffee :)

What amazing stories you weave! I love there dark chocolate milano cookies and my kids grew up eating gold fish crackers and still do. Keep the stories coming they make me feel nostalgic for the simpler times.
Every winter we make a home-made "chili soup," and sprinkle a number of goldfish into it. On a cold day, a piping hot bowl of home made chili with goldfish ... mmmm, that's good eatin' !!

I remember Pepperidge Farms turnovers from the early 60's. I love their rye bread, and their cookies. Hard to go wrong with their products. Yep, I was in the "Pepperidge Farms Remembers" generation. Thanks again for the great video!

@@billchambersmarquez1964 I think I remember that one also. What I liked the most about the cakes was how smooth the icing was, and also, when the cake was refrigerated, you could peel the icing off, to eat it separately.

.....until 1977, then Charles C. Welch replaced him until the late 90's .

Pepperidge Fahm remembahs. BTW, Parker Fennelly was a true New Englander, by gorry’s. He came from Northwest Harbor, Maine. When in character his accent was authentic. His accent and the lines that were written for Titus Moody are absolutely representative of the way people are in that area of Maine. Ayuh.
My fond memory of Pepperidge Farm when I was a kid was they were too expensive. My mom always said that. Lol. Ate them at a friends house sometimes. Luckily my mom was a great cook. We had homemade cookies. 😋

Back in the 8o', Pepperigde Farm were selling an amazing three layers cake topped with cream that came in a rectangular box an many flavor; it was even better than the Sara Lee of the days, but it disappear from every Canada groceries decades ago. It was a really tasty cake.
Found the white cake in a small town (5,000) I lived in Ohio until August, the cake was sold at family Dollar, there are no grocery stores in that town
Pepperidge Farm frozen cakes are sold here in Central Florida at almost every grocery chain, and have been as long as I can remember (many decades).
@@joseh3564 I'm here too but we've not been able to find the chocolate cake with white frosting for years. My daughter went to their website using their store or product locator but nothing came up for that flavor in the whole state 😔.
They introduced a cake with a stripe in the center, I think strawberry, chocolate and maybe vanilla. They didn't last for some reason.
My favorite pepperidge farm memory is when some one sent me a Turkey and all the fixings for dinner and there was a bag of pepperidge farm stuffing with it. Oh yum yum ! 👍👩🦰👍
My grandmother only used Pepperidge Farm original bread for our sandwiches and for desert Milano cookies. To this day every time I eat one of their cookies, I think of my grandmother

I grew up in Downers Grove IL. When the wind was right, we could smell the bread baking at the local factory. It was a wonderful aroma. They also had factory tours. Every visitor got a fresh loaf of bread when they left. Pepperidge Farm has always been a warm spot in my heart for that reason.
As a kid, in the 1960s & 70s, I remember that my mother would buy Pepperidge farm bread or stuffing cubes for very special events. It was always a luxury brand to us, and I really appreciate this video to provide me with the history of the company. And shout out to that wonderful voice actor who gave us, “Pepperidge Farm remembers.“
One of my good friend from work gave me some milanos Pepperidge farm after a couple days later he passed rip mister Gary.
Overall this cookies is something that will bring me joy and remember my friend amen

Pepperidge Farm is the only stuffing I will use for Thanksgiving. It’s so good.
More people are baking bread and pastries at home like Margaret used to do particularly in uncertain times of higher prices and a return to healthy homemade. I'm now going to get the PEPPERIDGE FARM recipe book.

What a great brand. I love almost everything they make, but especially their Milano cookies; I don't know if they still make the apple and cherry turnovers that you bake in the oven, but I loved those as well. And their layer cakes...a friend of the family used to call their white bread "cake bread" because of its texture.
From December 2000 through August 2012, I lived in a two family house that was near the Pepperidge farm Plant i Norwalk, CT. and I could smell the baking of breads and other products each morning. They had a giant water tower that was about 100 feet tall with a large bulb on the top which held the water. The plant was closed down about 6 years after we had lived there and a year or so later the water tower was dismantled. I always loved their products and in 2012, my wife and I moved to Brazil. We are able to buy Pepperidge Farm's Milano Cookies in the Sam's Club here in Brasilia. It is a wonderful story about the founding of this Icon of American Business.

She took what to some people, a tragedy and turned it into a business. That good old Yankee ingenuity. Definitely one of the best success stories ever. Plus, it was a real place.
I love peppermint Milano cookies and the Holiday collection of cookies because it has cookies that you don't see on the shelves anymore like Brussels.
I grew up with their products; especially like Ginger men, Chessmen, and really miss the discontinued chocolate brownie cookies.. Their bread was a staple at home. I remember looking at the ingredients on a bag of cookies and it was nothing but wholesome ingredients. There were no chemicals or preservatives. A bit pricey, but you really do get what you pay for. Mom made sure we always had the best.

My dad had a Pepperidge Farm Bread route in the early 60's. I remember him bringing home day old breads, and rolls and cakes. They were all delicious! Especially the dinner rolls! I remember there was a yellow cake that you would have to bake, and then it came with frosting that you had to put on the cake. They were also very delicious. And later, they made a sort of popover with beef and a beef gravy inside. You had to bake those, and they were simply savory and delectable! I wish they would bring these things back. Now they have only a fraction of the products available that they used to have. But the quality is still there. R.I.P. Margaret Rudkin.

Pepperidge Farm remembers
I was a Pepperidge Farm bakery distributor in the late ‘80’s. I delivered bread and stuffing to stores in a 4 county area in Central IL. What an outstanding co. this was to work with and people would come by in the store and tell me how much they loved their Pepperidge Farm bread. Then come Thanksgiving, they would buy the PF stuffing like nothing I’ve ever seen. Incredible product and Campbell’s has maintained the quality that Mrs Ruskin insisted on. That makes for quite an expensive loaf of bread but you get what you pay for!!
I remember when Costco/ price club opened they had gold fish in the bulk gallon container.In 1980.

Just today I contacted Pepperidge Farms inquiring if they would ever bring back my childhood favorite bread called Cracked Wheat bread. It was on the dark side from molasses and maybe cocoa, and was very tender. It was just the best!! Oh how I'd love to have it back or the recipe. I grew up in the 60's & 70's and at 69 years of age I still dream about my all time favorite bread. Please bring it back!! Thank you!!

My personal favorite are the MILANO cookies in both regular and mini-size.

I Was A Campbell Soup Employee In The 70's Peparage Farm Was A Symbol Of Good Quality
in the spirit of Margaret Rudkin, I loved Milanos so much that I searched for a home made version. FOUND IT. it's probably in your home right now. that red plaid cook book, in the cookie section are gum drop gems. make the cookie without the gumdrops. form the dough into a 1X1.5X18 inch rectangle log, chill completely slice very thin. Chocolate ganache in between two cookies, let set completely, resist the temptation and the next day, MILANOS. better than store bought
What I remember is a field trip that my 5th grade class took to a Pepperidge Farm factory (back around 1957) near Darien, CT. At that time, the company manufactured a wheat bread that was also sweetened (and delicious). We were each given a loaf to take home.
Yes, my nursery school class went to the Norwalk factory in 1973 or so and got loaves of bread. Went back to visit in 8th grade, but I don't think they gave out loaves anymore.

My grandkids love the fish crackers! One is fussy but he will eat a whole bag of fish crackers. The Milano cookies are wonderful. Can eat a whole bag in one day easily!
To this day, Pepperidge Farm coffee cake is one of my favorites. All of their other products are excellent as well. Growing up I was fortunate to have a man deliver their products to our home.

I remember Parker Fennely. He was an actor who played among other characters Titus Moody a New England farmer who was a regular contributor to Fred Allen’s weekly variety show over NBC radio.
I just picked up 2 bags of Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix today.
I remember back when I was a kid my family and I was traveling on a plane and the actor who plays in the famous commercials was sitting behind us. I never forget he kept saying Pepperidge farms remembers over and over. My Dad finally turned around and said I think we all got buddy 😁🤔

The frozen cakes and raisin toast are my staples. I remember their store in Atlamonte Springs Fl back in the 70s . I always bring the cookies and raisin toast to my friends up in Canada since they don’t have any of their products.
Still use their herb stuffing for every Thanksgiving and Christmas, the best! Their products are top of the line!
This was a treat! I grew up eating Pepperidge Farm thin-sliced white bread sandwiches. I remember being shocked the first time I came across “Texas Toast” as it was the very opposite of what I was accustomed to. And who doesn’t love a Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie (especially the dark chocolate and orange variety) with a glass of ice cold milk?! The story of how the Pepperidge Farm company was founded reminds me of the beginnings of another wonderful American success story, Lilly Pulitzer.
I wish that they still sold the condensed New England clam chowder. That was good.
Yes, the Campbell's clam chowder is just not as good.
In the 80’s through maybe early 2000’s I had two different neighbors that both owned a territory route as Pepperidge distributors that stocked stores at Retail, Grocery, and C stores. One had the rights to cookies and crackers, the other a bread route, huge stuffing biz over the holidays. Odd how they split the lines up. Both guys made great livings. ( N. IL )
My husband worked for Pepperidge Farm for 17 years was a wonderful company.
We were pretty much a Pepperidge farm family. Dad started in shipping dept in 1950 in Illinois and eventually became maintenance Supv finishing in 1980 at the Utah plant
I worked summer of 67 prior to college in the stuffing department. Lots of college kids filled vacationer spots as the bakery operated 24-7. Lots of different products like the English muffins and cupcakes by the thousands. I remember QA rejecting 1500 blueberry cupcakes because they had too many berries- all in the dumpster ( destined for the hog farmers)
Wow. I never knew they named their farm after a tree. My Grandma loves their Coconut Layer Cake.

This is a wonderful presentation! Back in the 50's my mother always got Pepperidge Farm bread. She let us kids know she thought it was a special, quality bread---not the 'air bread' generally available.
Nothing better than Sunday morning brunch after church using a toasted, buttered slice of Pepperidge Farm bread and breaking the yolk of an egg and sucking up the yolk for fresh deliciousness.
That raising bread is awesome. I haven't had it since I was a kid. I'm getting some today.
The truth is hard work perseveres through everything, give it your all and make quality goods and you will have money beyond your wildest dreams.

After the success of the Norwalk Bakery, Mrs. Rudkin opened another plant in Downingtown, Pa., in 1949, to
reach the mid Atlantic region. At one point they employed 1500 employees, until 1991, when the Bakery & Biscuit Plants relocated to a new Bakery in Denver, Pa. Frozen Food still exits in Downingtown.
