  • -Welcome to the Sleep Ranch! We are located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where our ancestors settled and started ranching in 1883.
I (Carson) work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town, and our son Silas! We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!
We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.

Till again between the rows and then take some old hay or straw and put
    between the
    rows of
vegetables and that will help keep the weeds out and will help keep the moisture in the ground. God bless and please pray for us in SE south Dakota as we have not had any measurable
rain since May 11th and its now June 22nd

You can toss some oat seed in the grass if you are looking for something to grow fast. How is the pony you had by your house? Drone shots are great as always. Damaris' garden looks fine. First year gardens you never know what you will get. Spread a little of the barn yard cleaning in there for her late this fall. My last garden the first year we got tiny disfigured carrots, small onions, a few potatoes and small watermelon. Not much grew and the next year I put the chickens in the garden helped with bugs and weeds. Glad you guys are all well.

All those cows and calves look really good…….. I love the drone shots….It is amazing how the cows and calves pair up after being separated…. Oh wow..when it was raining and working the cows reminded of when loaded hogs in the rain…and it always seemed Ed that’s when we did it…I’m sure those love it on the range…probably cooler and lots of grass….Demarius s garden coming along pretty good….Actually the weeds wasn’t that bad…I have seen a lot worse….Great video..Thanks for taking us along!!!!😊😊😊❤❤❤

That had to be fun loading the cows in the rain and mud. Have to say that was a great save to separate the cow and calf with that gate. Could tell how frustrated the calf was when the gate stopped it in it's tracts. Glad the weather was better in the second half of the video when unloading the cattle. Making good use of your drone with each video, especially with moving the cows to the summer pasture.

Carson, I've been meaning to ask why you separate the cows and calves for transport? I thought maybe because it saves possible injury to calves and ease of transport.
Damaris, great looking garden. Gardening like everything else is a learning process. You learn and adapt. Next year's garden will be better than this year, the following year will be better than next year. Great gardening starts with the first seed you plant.
