I didn't notice a smell at all. I asked my husband and he didn't either. We didn't walk the whole canal, though. Next time I'll try to sniff and see if I notice anything lol. In 2019, they started the Genki Ala Wai Project. They've been making genki balls which are clay or mud balls filled with beneficial microorganisms that sink to the bottom and eat up the sludge. Over 20,000 balls have been tossed in so far, and it seems to be working really well. The sludge is going away! They're seeing many more fish and even a monk seal swimming in there! It's a seven-year project and they're hoping that in a couple more years it'll be clean enough for swimming and fishing. Pretty exciting! 😄
Does the canal still smell? When I lived there I could smell it
