i love these kind of videos. i have 6 acres 5 are wooded and im trying to clean it up to maximize wood gains for wood stove. when i started i was really overwhelmed and felt like it was going to take forever. it seemed like such a chore. but now i do it with a smile on my face. it is me time! great to clear your head, and at the end u look at what u have done and it looks great!

The best part of stewardship and working outside with trees for me is when the day is done and you look at the results of your hard days work. To me its all worth it when you can see what your hard work has done to make your property look better. I love working outdoors.

Hi Cody, I love to hear you rant. You bring out so many good points when you do so and we can hear the passion in your voice all the while. You are right that we should be good stewards. That was God's intension for Adam and Eve to be stewards of the Earth Gen. 2:15. If they had not sinned, death would not be part of our equation. I am glad that you are getting to do what you really enjoy doing.

I enjoy learning how you take care of your forest area because I hope to be able to get a similar property in the not to distant future, and when I do, I want to make sure I take care of it properly so there is something good there for anyone that comes after me. I'm excited for part 2 to see how you take care of those stumps :)

I agree with you on the need to care for the earth. As a professed Franciscan I have to go a step further and protect all the wildlife. When cleaning up my forest acres I leave small areas of growth for the little critters. I try to think of the fire danger as well. We were given this earth as a place to live and grow. I am sorry that some feel that they are forced to be here. If you don,t like it leave.

You have one of the good sort of weed whips! If you haven't had a chance to make a sheath for its blade yet, you might try a piece of PVC pipe with a wide, lengthwise piece cut out. It should be springy enough to hold that nice sharp blade and clear the handle. I've used them to good effect by adjusting my swing to hit the grass with about a 30 degree slicing action. Love your videos!

You've got a lot of nice materials in those slash piles. Why burn? How about tight brush fences, poles, materials for erosion control, or even chip down for paths. Much of that slash can be used in trail building, buried in fire breaks, or just around the homestead -- even growing mushrooms. Nice tool setup -- shame to hear you're going to burn.

Sure it sounds like criticism, and it would be if I hadn't been a "student" on a number of clearing/thinning/restoration projects on/off over the years. Not hundreds of acres, but I learned a lot working along side Foresters who know much more than me. Even working on restoring my tiny space of woods when I'm not sitting behind this computer. :)

I also love your rants and feel exactly the same way. We should leave where ever we step in better condition than how we found it. I know some people (not necessarily just Christians) believe that the Earth and all of nature is theirs to rule over with no regard for any one or any other living thing. They squander our precious resources, treat animals with cruelty and in general are very selfish. Now I'm ranting - I'll stop and just end with THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO!

when I was young an old farmer used to burn a pile of brush in the fall and in the spring plant tomatoes in it the tomatoes were huge . burning releases all the nutrients at once. the sick broken trees and the mishapen ones are the ones most likely to have beetles etc under the bark and should be burnt also some plants have dormant seeds that can help bring the forest back that cant germinate without fire.for 1 to 5 years after a fire in the woods morels just explode for the picking and the co2 is offset by the healthy straight trees seeing huge gains of growth and stored co2 in the coming years.

Very interesting video Cody, AMEN about stewardship! I'm curious, and this comment is not meant in a bad way at all...why do all this to a forest in the first place? Why not just let nature take it's natural process and let the old trees fall, the brush naturally mulch the forest floor, etc...?? Why would "man" need to get in the way of God's nature? I'm being very serious when I ask this because I don't really know. That said, I like a clean forest. I like it neat and orderly.

I've been watching your videos for some time now and always find them to be informative. I, like yourself am a hands on kind of guy who likes doing things himself. While I have done a lot of what you show on your channel, I appreciate the different approach you have taken. I have a question about the Forest Stewardship series you have recently posted. I have 225 acres of woodland in Parsonsfield Maine and it is thick with scrub-brush throughout a forest of various species. How did you remove all of the brush before the selective harvest? What equipment did you use?
