    To whom this can help :
    I found really helpful to speak the lyrics repeatedly before singing using very different emotions, not only the one I wanna give the lyrics. I also build an entire story, just like a theatre practice.
    My vocal teacher told me to do so and it works like crazy. Usually being emotional while singing is extremely difficult for me.

    I find the problem also lies with a difficulty to let go of inhibition. So difficult to let yourself go in front of a public!

    Many of you have asked me to please post my IGTV videos to RUclips as well. I was worried about the video/audio quality being diminished, but let's see how this works. If this format is ok, then I'll keep 'em comin' 😊. Of course, I'll still be uploading the classic style of videos as well from time to time👍🏽. But posting my IGTV videos here is easier, and it'll allow me to post to RUclips more frequently 🙌🏽.

    I'm guilty that I'm always technical when it comes to singing (always conscious of my pitch and the right dynamics from time to time). Once I tried 'emotional singing' when I was very down, I ended up choking in my own tears so I decided to sing 'emotional' when I'm alone and more technical in front of others to save myself from embarrassment lol

    • @Vezerai
      @Vezerai 5 лет назад +48

      I feel you but you shouldnt restrict yourself. What you really want to do is sing emotionally in front of others. If something is hard to do you have to do it until it is easy, simple as that. I was in the same place as you are and struggled in front of my friends when singing sometimes because i choked up thinking about the lyrics and connecting them to my own life. But you gotta recognize its okay to be sad, if you are sad you should cry. I remember well one day i was so sad and i sat at home by myself and sang through my tears, it didnt sound good and wasnt very technical but the next time i was with my friends i didnt carry much sadness inside and it was a little bit easier. Bottom line is you do not want to repress your emotions because its easy and it becomes a habit and then emotional singing (which is the best kinda singing) becomes hard and thats the exact opposite of what we want.

      I’ve never related to something more than this
      When I sing with emotions I just give goosebumps to my self and start crying
      And I’ve done this in starmaker smh

    Great lesson, thank you. For me, having that emotion in my voice at one point, then losing it on the next run of the same song; I can hear it in the playback. It's important to listen to your performances with a critical ear yourself, but also to get feedback.
    I use acoustic guitar to write music, so if I lose my way singing, I sit with my guitar for a minute and then find my way back to the inflections, the style I wanted, the attitude, the pauses, etc. You've got to believe in every word, or no one else will care.

    Eric, thanks for posting this. Vocalist need to acknowledge they are entertaining the audience and that they need more than a great voice. Great voices are easy to come by. Connecting with the audience using emotion is a perfect foundation. I try to remember before I go on stage that I am really an actor that sings and how can I make the story of the song be real for the audience. A pretty voice is nice, but if thats all you deliver for a 3-5 minute song the audience will eventually disconnect from your performance.
