  • So after a few months pause to make a baby my client is back in the chair and back at her back! This is the second of two sessions in December and made some great progress towards finishing her back. Here is session Seven on her geisha and *hannya mask design. We knocked out the Hannya mask on her left side. Last year, when we did the session for the Chrysanthemum flower, she was having a rough go of it an had used some numbing stuff. I think it caused her to heal up a little rougher than normal.
So, we will likely have some more time going back into this tattoo and doing some touch up. So lesson learned for her no more numbing creams!

In the image she is taking off a Neko (Cat) mask and replacing it with a Hannya mask. We collaborated on the specifics of the design and came up with a very unique piece that has a wonderful movement to and fits her body perfect.
A Hannya mask is used in Japanese Noh plays. They represent a woman who has become obsessed or jealous but can be demonic and dangerous or sorrowful and tormented depending on the angle you look at the mask. This is meant to display the complexity of human emotions.
