Hi and thanks for the videos. How are you powering the access point? Specifically what ports are you using on your router or are you using a separate injector? The reason I ask is that the PoE of the router is ~12.5W per port, but the AP can consume ~22W?
Hey @DanielReed-bu5sc - Thanks alot for your comment. Yes I realised that and in fact I did try it with the PoE port on the router but it pulls slightly more power than the Router can supply. In fact I'm waiting for Grandstream to send me a little PoE switch which would then power it - the model 7711(P). So in the meantime I am powering it with a cheapish PoE injector which works perfectly - it cost about £14 quid GBP ($25 USD or there abouts) - it's a TP Link one and it's the model TL-POE160S which works absolutely perfectly. Hope this helps. Once I receive the switch I will move the AP to one of those PoE ports on that switch, but I should be doing a video on the switch in due course. I have to say it's a great AP, works really well with good power, in fact a bit more reliably than the other brand I had UI (see videos). Clients seem to connect faster and the portal on the AP is a lot more responsive too. If you need anything else then let me know. I'm going to be doing some GWN Manager eco system videos as well soon!
@@MrTimTech2022 Thanks for the update. I was hoping to be able to power the AP directly from the router. I have read that it 'might' be possible with a more powerful router power adaptor? The one supplied I 'think' is 24V @ 1.0A, but if you get a 24V @ 1.5A model you can then choose within the GUI to provide 24W to a single PoE port. I am not sure if this is possible and I have asked GrandStream as a pre-sales question.
@@fudlio Hi Daniel, in fact I know the answer to that as I did go ahead and purchase a good reviewed power adapter from that large online store and it supports 1.5A but when I tried this and set it to 24.8W power supply in the GUI on the router it still only allows you to allocate a maximum of 18W on 1 of the PoE ports as the 2nd PoE port minimum power has to be set as 5.2W at most. However the solution is to disable one of the PoE ports by using the blue slider button (same screen) and then you will only have one PoE port listed in the PoE power allocation section, you can then select 24.8W with the higher powered (1.5A) power supply. Sorted!
@@fudlio You're welcome, yeah it certainly makes a good setup I think. It would be a slight improvement if they were to include the higher rated amperage power adapter from the factory, maybe it's to keep costs low.
why is so hard for consumers to buy these? It seems like they don't want to sell their products except through very small distributers who usually sell to resellers who are in the phone system or specialty markets. CDW was the only "normal" place but they don't have the Grandstream GWN7665. Why do they not want consumer customers and home labbers? Anyone know where to buy the GWN7665 at a reasonable price?
Have you tried www.grandstream.uk which is for OAK Technology based in the UK or the distributer in the UK is BNS Distribution for a web search. Hopefully this helps!
