Taking a day off really makes THE difference for me - whilst I see other students around me being kind of "burnt out" towards the end of term (because they were constantly learning/never giving their minds a "real" break), I still feel energized & motivated to push through. At first I felt a bit guilty for taking a whole day off - because on social media etc etc you just see how everyone seems to constantly be working/studying. But as I still got the results I hoped for and still put in a lot of work, I wouldn't want to change back to "non-stop studying" :)
I think that’s a great advice. I found myself doing stuff for university every single day without noticing at first. At least the weekend should be off for everyone I think nowadays.
Yes please on your notion templates. One of my biggest struggles is finding a logical and efficient way to keep my notes. As a result when it came to essay time I was a disorganised mess, I couldn’t find quotes, I could remember reading something that was relevant to my essay but couldn’t remember where I read it. It just wasn’t fun and my essay grades suffered. I clearly knew the content but struggled to articulate it. Your template and a walk through of HOW you organise your notion would be awesome. Very good tips! I would say from my perspective as a second year grad student doing a humanities degree that is essay and not test based in America that instead of reading ahead my tip would be DONT DO ALL THE READINGS. At the start of each week I look over all the readings I have for each class and pick 1-2 that I will not be doing for each class. This could be because they fall outside my area of interest , or are too dense that there would be diminishing marginal returns on reading them. Then I'm left with 4-5 readings I'm really interested in and will use in class. This way I can focus on doing a better job reading the ones I know I'll use in class or in my essays. The reading list of hundreds of pages a week can be super overwhelming and it's nice to have permission to skip a few in favor of a close read.
When I was in college and even in grad school, we did not know what the readings were until we got the syllabus. And I didn't have the money to be pre-buying my textbooks. In my last grad program, I got really angry and frustrated with professors who did not alert us in advance that we would have to read and write commentary on a book or chapter until the 1st week of class. They expected us to pay full price for the book or get overnight delivery. I complained a lot. Bc if I knew a month in advance, I could buy the book used off Amazon and wait for it to ship regular or media mail. I guess American professors are oblivious. I complained a lot about this, and I hope some of them paid attention.

Hi Ruby just wondering if you're going to make a video about digital and physical notetaking. Great video by the way. It's useful for helping me transition into university.
It would be great if you would tell us more about how you organize your learning notes. I know something now because you told us few pieces of information in this video but I see that you have a very "advanced", expanded way of organizing it :) I have this problem that I am really bad at organizing my notes from learning - from reading informative books and from courses :)
Great advice Ruby. However, I think it is difficult to have enough sleep and it really depends on your major. If you are majoring in Computer Science for example, it is impossible to get all the work done if you sleep more than 6 hours.
Office hours are there specifically for you to be able to ask questions & consolidate your knowledge. Don't be afraid to use them! Tutors really appreciate it when you put the effort in, they will give so much more back if they know you care. 🙂📚
I think academic feedback is so valuable. I always go by "if I would know how to make something perfect, I would do it" but that's the problem, I'm learning so it's not going to be perfect. Makes me so angry that some professors just won't make commentary on the work and just provide a number for calification
'The Athenaeum's otherwise positive review raised the question of whether "it may be kind or wise or right to make fiction the vehicle for a plain, matter of fact exposition of social evils".' This is very interesting. Very interesting.

Thanks for this interesting and motivating video Ruby! :) It's very unfortunate that my university courses don't have tutors I could ask for feedback or general questions about the course, but I always try to engage live in class. thank you so much for making such beautiful videos for us 🥰
It would be great if you would tell us more about how you organize your learning notes. I know something now because you told us few pieces of information in this video but I see that you have a very "advanced", expanded way of organizing it :) I have this problem that I am really bad at organizing my notes from learning - from reading informative books and from courses :)
Thank you Ruby! These will help a student(like me)
Great advice Ruby.
ahhh wish I had watched this video two years ago when I first started uni! about to start my 3rd year, lets' see how I can apply these now!!
I think academic feedback is so valuable. I always go by "if I would know how to make something perfect, I would do it" but that's the problem, I'm learning so it's not going to be perfect. Makes me so angry that some professors just won't make commentary on the work and just provide a number for calification
This is a very lovely video, it made me happy and i can't wait for the next semester to start to apply these tips♡
'The Athenaeum's otherwise positive review raised the question of whether "it may be kind or wise or right to make fiction the vehicle for a plain, matter of fact exposition of social evils".' This is very interesting. Very interesting.
It's like we aren't similar age that she is waaay older than me and have more life experience so I am listening everything she says very carefully considering
This video is very useful, thank you for making this amazing video💗
Lots of love from Indonesia 🇮🇩❤

Thank you so much for this advice! I'm starting college for the first time this fall and am a little worried about how things will go.
I already graduated and is working already but whenever I watch your videos I wanna redo college 😅😂 there are just some things that I regret not doing when I was studying 😂
can you make a video on model united nations, youth parliaments, model supreme courts and debates in general?
Look at that smile on the thumbnail.

i was so excited to see the title. thank you ruby!! for making this channel my study bible. xx
Thanks for this interesting and motivating video Ruby! :) It's very unfortunate that my university courses don't have tutors I could ask for feedback or general questions about the course, but I always try to engage live in class. I also never know my required reading until the courses actually starts so reading over the holidays is not possible, but I loved your tips about research and connecting different areas, as well as writing down what you learned each week, I'll definitely keep that in mind and try it out next term :)
This is amazing, you are amazing, bless you ❤❤❤
ruby says in her back to school essentials video that she loves a watch,
me: can not unsee the watch and looks for it in every clip.
