The song is called "Teen Spirit" so listen to the lyrics. Maybe she's talking about peer pressure and puberty and how kids are rushing each other to grow up. "You don't even know me" sounds like something a lot of teens would say to their parents, like they don't understand them. And it kinda sounds like she's in denial through out the song. Like she knows what's right and wrong but she wants to fit in and be something she's not. idk
To me I see it as she got raped or something like that. You hear stuff like "creeping on my shoulder, I hear you breathing." ( similar to that ). And "don't come close." But she loves that person and become some sort of slave to him hence "just do it." And she knows it isn't healthy but she can't stop. Or some kind of trauma has happened in her life. Idk just my thought
I have no clue what sza is talking about specifically, whether that be rape, depression, suicidal thoughts, an actual teenager or demonic etc. but I personally think it means for example how teens can be manipulated, foolish, easily influenced, and whatever sza is referring to she feel its consuming her, taking over her, she doesn't feel completely in control of herself, it's so powerful her inner being or soul feels childlike. so she refers to her spirit as a teen, teen spirit.
No one picking up on the suicide references here? A song named "Teen Spririt" named after Nirvana who's front man famously committed suicide. Her singing "just do it" so cryptic and beautifully? Sounds like an inner struggle to stay in this world or go to the next.
+Jah Mon so does Vince Staples. Every track on Prima Donna is a banger but it also has some really depressing undertones and interludes about his depression and suicide
That's what everybody on TDE somewhat does "This is your generation, show your pain" quote from Kendricks Section 80 album. Seems she's really into kid cudi as well. So she might be telling a real story or merely vividly explaining what happens to women in our society too often.
I listened to her at 16 knowing full well she was gonna be big one day didnt realise it wouldn't happen until I was 19/20 and now shes even more popping I'm 21
For me, this song represents the depression and anxiety I've been going through for the last few years. I'm only 15, so I've spent most of my pre-teen and now teens years depressed. Yes, I often feel lost and lonely without a lot of friends, but I really don't have a major reason to be depressed and can't explain why it keeps coming back. This depression doesn't know me, but it keeps coming closer and closer. It's killing my teen spirit.

Glad artists like her, Frank Ocean and Jhene Aiko are leading the new R&B renaissance. Things were pretty whack for the past few years but they're bringing it back.
The song is expressing the usual stereotypes of a teen. Suicide, depression, and troubled behavior. Maybe it's a personal explanation - but the song uses an excuse if "voices" in your head, meaning it's just who I am. You think you know me. "Don't come close" is technically saying that the spirit in the teen is just depressed and doesn't want anyone around. Like when a teen tells their parent that they don't know them when they are going through an emo phase. Sza just took her unique neo soul sound and made an eerie yet awesome song. If you think it's demonic... well that's your opinion.
She is literally has the female vibe of Kendrick on lock. She has the bass and beat with the eery feel Kendrick has but she has a different way of delivering it which makes her unique. She gives you the vibe that she is always daydreaming and never fully "here" in her songs. Sza is so on point, I would love to meet her.

Abz music is really hip hop - fast layers of beats instead of the melody in my opinion.

SZA really changed the game. She brought new sound with her voice. You could later hear other singers kinda try to mimic her odd delivery of the way she says words. A time of Soundcloud gems & depression. Deep sea diving & finding gold. Also when I came across Mac Miller, he was on his hip-hop tip.

Not my wavelength. I hope one day I can use my voice as a form of expression!
I appreciate what she is doing though yass! so nice to see a woman of color portraying herself in this light!
+Juneias Actually her music moves me in ONLY positive ways, whether it is ominous or heavenly. She is clearly highly spiritually aware & her music comes from a place of awareness. Which is the best way to be. (The opposite of oblivious ignorance.)
+Rebel Love kodos, Ik a lot of people can identify with what she is doing, music is subjective xP is what she's doing unique? totally and I appreciate that. It's just doesn't click with me and thats cool too.

Juneias Aww, I love you,}
You might like "Ice Moon" better though, it's less creepy and more about divinity & enlightenment.
This sounds so different compared to “ice hotel”
Luv her😍😍😙, but she's too intense for the radio.
Good
Fuck the radio, it's mostly trash anyways. Let Iggy and Nicki shitty asses have that.
Is it me or this gives the old Weeknd?!?! I fw it tho
I love this song but it takes me back to a dark time in my life. I listen to it differently now..
But, it's crazy how music can be like a picture. It can take you back to where you were when you first heard it, or listened to it most.
Tarrina Watson facts. I tell my gf this all of the time. music does that to me majorly. I was also in a dark space when this came out... hearing it is almost like a soundtrack my memories of myself. crazy
Tarrina Watson It's funny how you only begin to hear the lyrics once you can relate. I guess that's just how music works.
It makes you feel also. Feel so deeply. Makes you feel everything you felt when you used to constantly repeat it before and now.
Lovely Evelyn wys
Lovely Evelyn yesssssss
Rest In Paradise X.😔💔

its crazy how the music industry made her do surgery and lose weight she was beautiful then
I really like SZA. She's weird, different, and beautiful at the same time. Which is why I like her a lot. It's her own style.
ABRA and SZA seem very DARK in their songs. I love it!!!!
went to see you yesterday in porto, god i wish i went 10 years back, this was the vibe i was looking for, the undergroud, the feelings that nobody cares about
How foolish of me to think i had it
@@AsaelPaniagua-z6n 🤣🤣
She gives me witchy vibes. I like it.
She is so pretty and one of my favorite naturals
Whoa this is my first time seeing this and she looks so different 😳 like wow and she sounds so different 😳 like I'm actually shook

Bruh when this video started this shyt gave me chills rip jah brah
Fucking crazy how this song came out when I was 15 listening to this alone in my bedroom and now I’m 25 listening to this alone in my bedroom. Time please slow down 😭
This is a certified hood classic
Almost 10 years later and this still not on Apple Music wtf🤦🏾♂️
SZA really changed the game. She brought new sound with her voice. You could later hear other singers kinda try to mimic her odd delivery of the way she says words. A time of Soundcloud gems & depression. Deep sea diving & finding gold. Also when I came across Mac Miller, he was on his hip-hop tip.
🔥🔥🔥💯
Her voice is so haunting (in a good way) 2:07
2024 & I’m still doin my rounds on this joint
This song used to creep the hell out of me
This is how I discovered SZA…I swear her songs got me thru middle and high school 😭
My first love got me into her with this song. She passed away due to cancer when we were 17 😇 I always come back to this. We would have grown old together 😩
Last year of High school for me , I just got out when she came on the scene unfortunately u can’t even download this song on Apple Music or nun 😢
I want a SZA, Honey the hippy & Jhene Aiko collab please....
I keep on coming back to listen to this song, true artistry right here - amazing.
This song is creepy and beautiful at the same time
Who’s listening in 2020? I miss the old SZA 😩
2021 here, and honestly same 😭
