Whilst i agree that Martinelli needs more support from the left 8 or LB i think we isolate the left hand side for a reason. So the left winger can be put in a 1v1 situations (with space) more often. Martinelli needs to take some responsibility and improve his 1v1 success rate otherwise we need to upgrade. For me Jamie Gittens would be the perfect upgrade at LW (can also play RW) He's in the 99th percentile for successful dribbles & 99th percentile for take ons that lead to a shot & a goal across the top 5 leagues and champions league. He'd have no issue being isolated on the left hand side with the full back. This is the exact type of winger that could take this team to another level, a 1v1 specialist.
Rashford in London would not be good for him. In another life I worked around the sort of night clubs these players go to and if parties are his problem there would be too much temptation.
I think what xhaka actually gave martinelli was defensive cover so martinelli didnt think about always having to recover, which is why i think merino was brought in. But i do agree martinelli needs to use his attack as the defence and make the defence more worried about him.
My starting eleven against Crystal Palce tonight: Raya in goal, Timber (rb), Saliba and Gabriel (centerbacks), Tierney (leftback), Nwaneri (rightmidfield), Rice (defensive midfield) and Odegaard (leftmidfield), Saka (rightwinger), Havertz (striker), Trossard (leftwinger).
You need to look at passes needed to break the press/time taken to break the press when it comes to rice vs partey because it’s partey’s press resistance more than his passing
Great show as always Tom, for me no to Rashford, it's the one position we need strengthening and we just cannot afford another cast off!....also with regard charity shield being classed as a trophy? I seemed to remember the scoucers telling everyone back in 2001 about about thier 4 trophy haul! ....one of them being the charity shield
Don't mean to be rude, but we're already struggling with Martinelli. If Rashford joins, I'll seriously doubt the leadership's ambition. We should be going for players in form. Not keep gambling on players manchester clubs don't want anymore.
Arsenal need players with an upward formcurve, clinical in front of goal, creative and ready to make an impact immediately. For me Semenyo and Rashford is not clinical in front of goal. So no I would not sign them. We should instead look at Mbemo and Gittens as winger options. Other players we should sign are Baena and Marmoush or Gyökeres. If we don't sign these types of players, we will have more to do in future transferwindows. That is just adressing attacking players. We need to look at M. Kerkez, Zubimendi, J. Tah or I. Hien. Some of these transfer should happen in the summerwindow. But it is obvious that we need to do some transfers in Janary window. Especially when we think about the games we dropped points - Everton, Newcastle, Bournemouth and other games this season. And how we are playing, risk of injury on Saka, Odegaard, Saliba and Gabriel for example. As I said earlier streams please be proactive. Loans at best not good enough.
martinelli's take-on succ rate in 22/23 was 44.7. His drop coincides with Xhaka's departure. NOt sure how we want to look at that, but it seems to me that for large parts of the season we have completely given up (as a team) on the left side. I would really like to see martinelli get a run with merino at Left 8 before giving up on him. BTW, look at Isak npxg vs npGoals.
Martinelli cost us against defenders, and Bayern Munich Kimmich realized it and capitalized on his mistake on his head being down. Its head down is affecting his game 🎮 😤
Fair enough but at the end of the day, if we are being harsh - he has not evolved as a player compared to Saka , not even half of Saka’s progression so we need someone else aka Lookman imo
@@LiiveGunner his head was down in 22/23, so he made it work then. I don't think that he has lived up to my expectations, but he is getting hung out to dry based on the way our left side has failed to evolve.
There's a lot of mitigating factors but I do think we changed how we played from 22/23 where were more transition to more controlled and you see the limitations in his game ,also think his ability to hit that weaker foot cross it's gotten better it's no way as good as saka also I don't think he has the burst as he did that injury he got vs Sheffield messed him up
Tom to take on your point on Henry’s point, Martinelli isn’t taking on his man in 1on1, agreed. But take them on and then what? Saka takes his man on, and he’s got White and Odegaard right around him to release to or use as decoy, he’s got Merino running in, he’s got Martinelli running to the far post. Martinelli takes his man on, then what? Crosses it to nobody? Jesus who plays deep midfield, or Kai who roams everywhere except the area wingers cross to strikers. Or Saka who doesn’t run in back post often enough, or Odegaard who isn’t going into the O-zone anymore to try and score. Nelli isn’t supported post action, he could keep taking his men on, it leads to nothing because he isn’t supported. Martinelli has clearly been asked by Mikel to do what he’s doing because he does(or doesn’t do) what Henry is saying, and still gets picked again and does it all over again. Henry shows us many things we didn’t know, but he’s also a proven horrendous coach/manager, easy to pick an action and critique it without the context of what the rest of the team is doing when Martinelli decides to turn back and recycle, or furthermore what the manager has asked them to do. Martinelli goes to any other team in the prem and starts banging them in, it’s not a shock that he’s fallen off the longer he’s been coached by Mikel. It’s something to do with the system. For me it’s been happening again and again where Mikel is forced to make changes due to injuries and stumbles upon the solution then we hit a good run of form due to that. He’s not proactive, he’s not quick to learn, he is very stubborn, and the worst part he’s got nobody to challenge him. I love Mikel and by no means want to get rid of him, but something in our hierarchal structure needs to change because our frustration is from the same issues repeating themselves and nothing is done to address that. We’ve needed box efficiency according to all of us and the manager himself, and we brought in Sterling? Seriously…
Your criticism and everyone’s criticism of Martinelli isn’t entirely unjustified but saying the best wingers don’t need supporting players around them is a far cry from getting more out of a pretty decent player in Martinelli. How is it he’s fallen off so far and quick as soon as Xhaka Zinny unit fell apart?
I love Martinelli but his form has dropped considerably. I wonder if it is a tactical thing from Arteta that doesn't allow him to fully express himself. Also, being isolated doesn't help the case. I fear if he doesn't deliver in the rest of the season then we may become a squad player.
Martinelli cost us against defenders and Bayern Munich Kimmich realized it and capitalize on his mistake on his head being down. Martinelli with his head down, seriously affecting his game 🎮 😳.
I wonder just how bad things are between UTD and Rashford. Is another loan move a possibility. I know it smells of Sterling, but is that such a bad thing? Virtually no risk high reward. I guess it could be argued that any deal for Rashford probably precludes any other Jan. forward option.
Rashford is talented his problem seems to be lacking confidence . Give him the right teammates and manager he definitely can be a massive help I’ll sign him.
Absolutely not. If he can't focus & give his all for his boyhood club he's not suddenly going to improve his attitude & fall in love with football again here.
I know some of our current players are not in form but still some fans are blindly defending them with toxic positivity but NOTHING compared to Ozil fanboys who thought he could do no wrong, when arteta exiled him 😅 turned out well for Ozil didn't it even after leaving Arsenal?😊
Football is a team game... And our left side is still not sorted that's why he's not scoring... Idk for sure but if Calafiori is playing he's stats should be better than without him...
I’m not willing to go for a project player on the left. We have one already. It’s been clear enough for long enough that Rashford ain’t a top tier player because of his attitude and lack of consistency.
Arsenal are constantly expecting to break this Duck, by getting non performing players that look like they are past their best. It’s just ridiculous, those in charge can’t see what we need.
Why would Arsenal want a Man U reject? But to be honest Arteta has previous for that sort of behaviour naming a few Jesus and Havart and sterling and shevchenko
But to be honest, the players you have mentioned have contributed in making Arsenal better than previous, they are definitely an upgrade on what we had prior to their joining us, even Rushford isn't your ordinary player, Arteta is an expert in panel beating and I believe he can make Rashford better than what we have seen at Man utd in the recent past just the way he did with Havertz.
I love Rashford's physical attributes and he has some fantastic footballing ability but it's not enough. It's the mental aspect I think he isnt the right fit. If he doesnt press and track back for his beloved Man U what makes you think he would do the same for Arsenal? Also I think he doesnt balance his personal ventures/football very well. Football is a short career, especially when your game is based around pace, footballers have so much time to persue other things once they retire. While you are playing focus on your game rather than other things.
We love a big club reject so who should we get guys. Rashford, Grealish or Chilwell? I wanted Grealish before he joined city under 22/23 Arsenal would of cooked now not sure
No, no, no! Avoid Rashford like the plague. Screams expensive flop and we really do not need another high wage, very risky signing. If he can't get his head in the game & find his motivation for his boyhood club, the chances of him doing it here are not good.

Rashford and Jesus to Newcastle & Isak to Arsenal 😁

Rashford not for me. Doesn't work hard enough for this team I think. I can't see him doing the hard pressing Arteta wants.
We need to stay away from rashford if we couldn't afford sesko, gyokeres or isak i don't want us wasting money on him
We could afford Sesko only he wanted to stay at Leipzig.
@moviegooner49 he wanted to vet his future sorted and arsenal weren't willing to spend the money without selling nketiah
@bradleycostello9077
Whats your source/link that Arsenal werent willing to spend the money??

Very nice! Accompanied by?
Morning Tom and everyone.. I’d stay well clear of Rashford , his stats and talent level do not justify huge wages and a sizeable transfer fee.
