- Lata Mangeshkar singing LIVE in Concert in 1971 in Nairobi, Kenya. This was the first time she sang in Swahili and though she does not know the language, she usually writes the lyrics of the phonetics in Hindi and the sings from the script.
Lata Mangeshkar (1929-2022).
Has anyone got the whole audio recording of this 1971 concert?
RIP LataJi
After I interviewed Lata at Nairobi airport, I was surprised to get a call from her later on. She asked which Swahili dong can she sing for the Kenyan audience and I suggested Malaika.
and to have sung it so beautifully and so soon is a sign of her unmatched genius.
Love this song. And what makes it so special is that it's sung by the Nightingale. It's just perfect.
Wow
If that was a audio/ video interview cab you please share 👍
Sir if you have the video of this concert also if you have the video of interview which u had taken please please upload it. It shall be a treat.
She could sing an African song so well, 3 cheers for Lataji,
Hip Hip hurray!!
Miriam Makeba would have been very proud of this version sung by none other than the Indian Nightingale herself. RIP Lataji!
From Tanzania to India. Her pronunciation of the African words is excellent
The original song is Kenyan from taita man fadhili Williams
That's because it is easy in Hindi to write words phonetically

Only the late great Lata could perform a Swahili classic and still make it sound like a Lata classic. Wonderful
Historic performance, which won the hearts of people of Kenya 🇰🇪 ♥
Rest In Peace Lataji 🕉️🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏🙏. There will never be another singer like Lata Mangeshkar. There will never be another Nightingale like her.
Mungu akurehemu lata mangeshkar R.I.P🙏🙏
RIP Legend.......much Love from Kenya 🇰🇪 your voice will always cherish our childhood memories
This song shows Her respect for all types of music and language. She sang it with so much love, making it her own song. I love the original version but her version is also beautiful ❤️
World's best singer lata ji ❤
Originally written by Adam Salim in 1945 and sung by Fadhili Williams in 1963 and remains to date the iconic Swahili song most remembered and covered by world artists!
Boney M has also sung it beautifully.
Oh i thought Miriam Makeba was the original singer for this song😳
Absolutely beautiful my fair lady. I wake up in the morning to a song and fall asleep at night to a song. Music is my friend and the singers are my harmony. One is never alone with a song. Song writers were born and are gifted people and singers belt out the most beautiful sounds from inside. Only God can give gifts like that. In every language is beauty and beauty is everything. Just open your eyes and open your ears. Absorb all the goodness that God has given to us. I praise all human life. We all have gifts in every single way and believe me. If you meet someone, you’re meant to meet that person in life. That’s all.
Loved this, I have never heard this version of Malaika before!🙂
Ouststandingggg and divine rendtion of our LataDidi!
Miriam Makeba, Harry Belafonte and now our own pride Lata Ji........priceless...priceless
Originally sung by Fidhali Williams in 1960 and remains to date the iconic Swahili song most remembered and covered by world artists!

Oh my god, wasn't expecting that. What a legend - RIP.
RIP legend. Much love from Kenya.
lata mangeshkar is not the only indian singer who did this one, in fact usha uthup sang this song along with the actual composer william something when she apeared on a radio show maybe on bbc or something like that. also kudos to the nightingale of india lata mangeshkar for trying to sing this song, even though swahili is not her native language, she sstill tried her best.

Lata ji has the voice of a Malaika 😇
Lata ji....how can i describe ur voice❤❤❤❤❤
Her vocals are so unique. No body e;ver born to match her vocals.
Rip, this song is mind blowing, beautifully sung by latha ji. Amazing 🙏
Instant goosebumps on listening to Lata ji's voice singing Malaika ❤❤❤
A popular song in my college days in Goa. The Words Malika nakupenda Malaika are in Swahili and mean 'Angel, I love you Angel"
Wow, I greatly enjoyed her music and glorious melodies from the heart. Such an honour to hear her sing swahili. Rest in perfect peace ma.
This is such a popular song. I heard it once in a Korean Drama, playing in the background. I didn't understand a word of Korean, but I understood every word in the song (originally from Tanzania)
Years Later Bappida Gave It A New Life By Composing "Pukaro, Tum Kahan Ho Pukaro" ... Runa Laila (Suparuna) ... Thanks For Sharing 💖

Incredible! !!!!!! Such a sweet song by LATAJI'S sweet voice 😍
As adapted by other artists like Miriam Makeba, Harry Belafonte, the Cape Male Voices from South Africa, and many others including this artist, many recognize Malaika as the most beautiful love song on earth.
The song resembles more or less with 'Na jaane kyun hota hain ye zindegi ke saath'' from the movie 'Chhoti Si Baat' which was released long after this song was sung by Lata ji.
No, the movie Damini. Gavah hain Chand Taare gavah hain....
It's not the original version... it was first recorded in 1961 by fadhili William later early 70's by makeba
Exactly my thoughts... though the tune is different, but the playfulness in her voice s exactly the same
Absolutely brilliant..nd,people say didi can only sing certain types of songs....

Wooow
Thankyou for posting this beautiful song Sir, I mean no disrespect but I'm just curious, is this song taken from a concert recorded in 1971? Lata ji's voice didn't sound like this in the early 70's, and I remember this song was on a live album where she appeared on stage with another legend the late great Kishore Kumar and that was from the early/mid 80's. Like I said, no disrespect meant, just curious that's all. Thankyou once again for the upload.
You are correct, I think it's from 1983. Lataji voice is reminiscent of the 80's, not 70's
Rip lataJi
