You don't have to identify your niche from the beginning, it's not important. You can do a bunch of them, meaning a range of photography, not quite everything! But limiting yourself when you actually don't even have a business going on yet in the first place is not good at all. You have to be flexible.
I agree ,I’m currently starting up a portrait and wedding photography business and I mainly want to do single creative portraits and weddings but I certainly will not turn away headshots , family & baby photography . Especially at the beginning
This actually just really helped me. I’m always told “focus on one thing” but how can I do that when I haven’t built a name for myself with any niche in the first place? That’s why I allow myself to have flexibility. I feel it can up your value as well if utilized correctly
Actually, as a beginner with a day job and responsibilities and just life in general... I would prefer to niche down. This creates a space for me in a specific genre that I could focus on. In return I'm able to generate repeat clients within that industry, in return further exposure. Yes, I believe in flexibility as a creative, but that's probably truer when you consider scaling up your skill / business
I try to focus on Automotive related photography but its dreary and winter here 7 months of the year, so the other half I focus on concerts and music. Has been tough just getting small local gigs but am looking to update and post more on my website and hope to gain access to larger concerts in the bigger cities near me. Concert photography is a long passion of mine but I struggle to see how it could make me any real money
Hey Connor great video I'm going to start my business I have some great gear I want to do portrait stuff and after looking at your photos on your website I saw your fantastic photos. my question did you use a flash and is that something you do. kind regards Mark
Looks like video footage from stock sites? If so, he may not know what it is but if you look up digital writing tablets you’ll probably find what you’re seeking.
You list a lot of useful things in your video, like your FB group, your website and so, but not mention of these in the description or where I could find them, Also a brief overview about what the video would be able, a few key points, etc, like a mini blog in the description would be useful. If you have blog, this could also boost your present and potential CEO across other platforms. Plus having blog, like posting on Medium, is a way of earning additional income Anyway, I mean all this as feed back and will probably rewatch to capture the links you mentioned in the video
You can have a sole business for up to 3 years being in the negative. That may have changed so look at your state/country to see how long you can have a business being in the negative. After the years are up and you don't sell then you're a hobbyist and have to add your income to your regular income (up to a certain amount)
So there's no way I can start this business with my phone? it is an S22 ultra very good quality. no? yes? wants to make sure im not wasting my time with these videos without proper gear.
How to start a photography business when your neighboring country launches missiles at your city?! But back to the point... I've tried all of this and failed. Because you should work hard in a multitude of directions and all at the same time. In photography business the business should stand before photography. And when I consider everything now I don't want to be a pro. Thanks for video, cheers!
I hope these tips are helpful! Let me know if you want a follow up video! x

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for making this! I’m currently struggling trying to narrow my focus. Especially because I also do graphic design and I model :/ ugh.
Anytime! If there are any videos youd like me to make let me know! Narrowing down is hard so I know that struggle well!
New subbie. Thank you!!!
This was so great!! Thanks 😊😊😊
You're so welcome!
My advice is, do not go cheap on your gear... especially Lenses!!
Defo!
I agree with this. Some people have hired me just because of my gear. Don’t go cheap. Good gear pays off in the long run.

Did you use a free template from Wix or pay for one?
I pay for my wix domain, but worked with a template and made it my own :)
@@ConnorWells any recommendations on the template? Trying to find one that’s reliable and quick but minimalist
