I’m in upstate ny as well and long story short… I love my djembe and beat it everyday but my head is shot !😂😂… I’m living off grid and had to kill a deer the other day for survival and figured I would use the hide for my drum… I’ve killed a lot of deer but never tanned the hides and I know you need salt for that and or the brains but I got thinking I don’t want it soft and supple for a drum head… and you just confirmed that for me… thank you !!! I’ll be using wood ash to remove the hair but I like a little bit left on in spots as well… gives the drum more character! I’ll let you know how it turns out! Thanks again for the knowledge!!!
