I can't hear this without thinking of my Husband. He was an electrical, audio engineer and production and auditorium manager for "Little Nashville Opry," in Nashville, Indiana. But he freelanced with many stars...in many venues, all over the USA. He loved Jackson Brown and this song... Cancer is a horrible thing!

I first heard Jackson Browne in the fall of 1974 in my first semester in college. He has been my favorite performer, singer/songwriter, and poet ever since. He is a sage and storyteller for our generation and an avenue into the meaning of our existence, losses and wins, and political perspectives. I have nothing but love and well-wishes for this genius, poet and pied-piper of the spirit. We all will be forever grateful...
went to a bruce springsteen concert at the L A coliseum. during the born in the usa tour and it was a great show, after he did his encore and the lights my girlfriend and i stayed in our seats waiting for the parking lot to clear outsome.well about 45 minutes later POOF the lights went back out and bruce and the E street band came back and said they felt like playing just a little bit longer and we hope you wont mind, My girlfriend and I moved up to 4th row center stage and watched them play for another hour and a half, every time i play this song it reminds me of a generation of kids and musicians who just loved the music GOD BLESS AMERICA
Did that roadie job back in the late 60’s and 70’s driving the 18 wheeler for several top names in rock! Mr. J B just to name one ! This song is pure truth, and pure soulful release!
Take it from a guitarist of 59 years, with 35 years worth of weekend playing and amp moving ... buy yourself a Teeter inversion table and bring comfort and decompression to your back before you can't walk, like I can't.
Went to a Jackson Browne concert in Baton Rouge early 70's. I can still visualize them preforming this song when I hear it. The keyboard guy sat quietly all night until he opened his mouth on this one. The audience exploded.
Timeless! ...They're the first to come and last to leave. Working for that minimum wage. ... Thank you , Jackson Browne for using your music to raise awareness of many important issues faced by ordinary people.
Another way to think about those lyrics is young kids working for a low wage in a job that gets them close to the performers, watch the shows for free and have some fun. This was likely a temporary job for most people. Who makes a career out a being a Roadie? Get real.
Best concert I've ever seen, Jackson Brown and Linda Ronstadt, at San Jose Center for the Performing Arts...1974. At the end both bands came back on stage and just jammed. Nobody left...don't think anyone even sat down. Never forget it!
I was 20 when this song came out and a member of the us navy. My buddy, Fred Chaney and I, would drive down the road in Charleston, sc listening and singing along. Very few worries. To be young and carefree, again. But I guess that’s the secret to life: in our youth we don’t realize just how fleeting, fast, and short this life truly is.
did some local roadie work, we came in to help the big boys do their job and keep the show going. I use to sing this when we started to load out all the time. Always got a smile, sometimes even a good laugh.
The greatest song from back in the day.... remember it so well while cruising to the cottage in my '66 Coronet with my family all singing as loud as could be..... will never forget those times.
This song bring back memory from the late 70's when I was working as a busboy for a minimum wage of $2.25/hour in a restaurant at a truck stop in South Dakota. It was playing on the jukebox. Man, I miss those good old days where America was once a great place to live.
My Whole life... Seems like a song. All My memories of sadness, happiness, triumphs, failures, Learning to play several instruments, performing...(Very Little, except among Friends)… Love, Hate (which I try not to burden Myself with)….. Music I heard at those times... It was ALWAYS THERE. Even when I felt really screwed over by People I Loved... Always There.
Jackson and Eric Clapton are the two artist's I grew up with in the seventies, but I never got to see them live. 😢 I pray that they take the Narrow Road, cause I sure would like to see them at Home 🙏 Viva Cristo Rey 💪🙏
Wow, I agree about the video, absolutely brilliant! Thank you! I recall the 60s, playing drums, going from place to place, not in the same league as Jackson, and always in our own transport, but the message was exactly the same then as it is now. The playing time was what it was all about and was just too darned short! I was always too nervous to go on, but then never enjoyed finishing, we could've played all night back then. Car was always packed up the previous night so we were ready to go, and sometimes we'd travel a fair way but we were never late except when we got home! Great song(s).
Jackson Browne thought if someone else and not himself when he wrote this song. If it wasn't for the roadie's and the people he would not be were he is today. Thank you Jackson for all the great songs you have. They hold a special place in my HEART. KEEP ON SINGING.
I was lucky enough to see him perform this live at the Summit in Houston, Texas. That was the early 80's, maybe '82, and the opening act was John Cougar Mellencamp. Great show, This was the encore to top it all!
