#rivian #r1s #r1t
Interesting how the styling of the R1S appears much more elegant than that of the Wagoneer, yet the silhouettes are so similar.
I was thinking about it also the similar design
Yeah its very jeep glass and roof line like
The funny thing is the design of the R1S was released before the design of the new Wagoneer.
Makes you wonder if it's the same designer, or at least a relative.
Quite the opposite to me. Its flat roof looks like a human's head with brain compartment cut off. It needs it to be bubbly like R1T has or some roof rails
Geez, you do know that the Grand Cherokee is an internal combustion vehicle. Frankly, I will take the Jeep. You guys can enjoy the electrical grid going down as everyone charges their EV's.
Rivian is one of the few up and comers I really want to see make it. I really like their design language and their niche of being electric adventure vehicles, like the Subaru of the EV world if Subaru made midsize electric pickups. Hopefully they expand their line into other segments as well once they are well established, while I love the R1T it's a bit larger than I'd like for daily uss. A bite size pickup or crossover, something that competes with the likes of the Santa Cruz and Jeep Compass would really interest me, of course unless it came at a Maverick price I couldn't afford it anyway.
Hope they stick around too, they have some good ideas for sure
That r1s looks awesome
I hope people stop hating on the delays
and remember we're in a recession
gas is up
parts are down and they're trying their best to deliver
We need more positive videos like this on the brand
Any future recession did not stop them missing their 2020 and summer 2021 proposed delivery dates. They have been perennially late.
I believe a lot of that negativity will fade as people start to see more of them on the streets. Hopefully in a year or two as more become available they will be a little easier to obtain.
It is so refreshing seeing clean sheet reimagined designs. The R1T and R1S are luxurious rocket ships with an excellent range.
That R1S looks pretty dang good! but I definitely wouldn’t say these have excellent range. R1S is acceptable, maybe. For the R1T it’s not enough for a truck
@@texashankpalmer876 I agree when compared to ICVs, but 300 miles seems to have become a benchmark for BEVs. Maybe someday, the range will be much higher, but looking at the weight of any EV, it becomes apparent that batteries weigh a ton and require quite a bit of space. So until someday gets here, the current generation is what it is. And back to the range, compared to even smaller EVs, the range is decent for pretty much every driving application but very long trips and towing. For those trips, I would prefer a vehicle with an engine.
“Excellent range”?? It doesn’t have excellent range but it’s a good start
@@texashankpalmer876 Is it good enough for a adventure oriented SUV with a bed? Load up your tent, bedrools, toss a kayak on top and some bikes on the back hitch.
I don't think towing anything outside of an off-road teardrop or utility trailer is what it's built for.
I like everything about the R1S but the price. I really like the looks & the tech. Also, from a lot of the reviews of the R1T this should be a good SUV. However when I went to build one out I just can't see myself paying almost $800 a month even though theoretically I could if I didn't want a savings account. I also really wanted to support Rivian because the plant is where my alma mater is located.
I agree on the price. It's priced as a luxury vehicle and is only a premium vehicle.
If you got in early, it's about $80k. Take out the $7500 tax credit, and it's roughly on par with a well-equipped Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon.
@@jbssfelix not really. It's smaller than those. You don't get actual leather seats because the whole let's recycle ocean plastics, vegan cars, whatever other ecological thing they want to make up. This is more the size of a 4 door bronco. If this started at 60k, I'd be all in. The fact that they raised the price from 80 to 90 left a really bad taste in my mouth.
@@jbssfelix in order for you to get the $7, 500 in credit you have to have an equal amount in tax liability. That part isn’t an issue because mine last year was almost twice that. However you still have to finance the 80k less down payment and/or trade so it doesn’t actually bring down the cost. Even if you turn right around & take that $7,500 & put it on the car, you still have to make that almost $800 payment. This is why I’m looking at the Blazer EV because if it’s priced right I don’t have to worry about that credit & if congress extends the credit but makes it point of sale then most of these EV actually become affordable for people.
EVs in general are expensive. Whether it is the GMC Hummer, Lucid, Platinum Ford Lightning or the Rivian. All are over $75,000....some over $100,000.
Man, I am ready for some interior reviews of the R1S
Don’t check out iJustine’s review….surprisingly a lot of room inside! 😉
It's very nice. I didn't realize it was so different than the R1T. It makes more sense as an SUV than a truck. It's the 1st electric vehicle that I really want... Andre again great job.
That forest green R1S is the best looking SUV since the Range Rover classic.
The design is fantastic. I think this is the coolest vehicle on the market currently.
Cars have been my love and passion over 40 years. I never thought I would consider an EV. If that is the direction we are forced to go, Rivian is the brand I would drive for a truck or suv. I like the style, performance, and off road ability. Little too soon for me though
Well said.
Rivian actually invited the right channel to an event this time around!
For not being able to show the interior, you did a great job Andre. This video is R1S heaven 😍. Can’t wait to see what you bring us post-embargo. Your video at some sort of hanger for the pre-order holders was the best video of the R1S I found on the inter-webs. You had the most footage of the R1S and still got time with interviews with potential owners.
Andre a automotive journalist can’t show the interior due to the embargo but tech RUclipsr iJustine can show the entire car plus the interior and a road trip a month ago. WTH!?!
Ijustine and her sister Jenna, already showed off the R1S from the exterior and interior two weeks ago. Rivian gave them an R1S and they took it on a family trip to a national park. They were very good videos from both of them and pretty detailed too, kinda funny you embargoed fro showing the interior.
Yes! I noticed that also and thought it was interesting and waiting for him to show us the interior. I guess they got a special first look inside and such.
Thanks for all of the content. Y'all are the first to show anything new.
That second green color is gorgeous.
HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE
The white R1T, beautiful
I know some people hate the look, but I think both are beautiful. They knocked the design out of the park in my opinion.
The rear reminds me a lot of the grand wagoneer
I agree!
Hopefully they improve the road/wind noise. It’s remarkable how much quieter the Ford Lightning is inside if you watch any comparison videos. Love the brand, but to charge nearly $100k for their vehicles, it has to feel like a $100k driving experience, and excess wind noise significantly impedes upon that IMO
Totally agree. Took a test drive of the r1t and the wind noise was really bad as if the windows were cracked opened. I was hoping it would drive more like a Range Rover with an ultra quiet interior and cushy ride. Otherwise the rivian was amazing.
@@Wasabi9111 i heard that Rivian is aware of the issue and is working on a fix, which is good. But we’ll see… seems like kind of a major oversight, and makes me wonder what else they missed early on and could be improved upon.
@@Wasabi9111 hmm my ride was super quite, wonder if some seals aren’t seated well or something.
They really need to make a 2/3-1/2 performance economical option (not everyone needs 0-60 in 3 seconds) so normal folks willing to splurge maybe $50-$60k on a new SUV can get in on one. So few of the masses can swallow 6 figures for a vehicle.
They are coming out with a 2 motor version R series. I think they will still be north of $60K though.
Originally they were gonna make the dual motor version cost less. But now everyone wants an electric car, so demand for Rivian is through the roof
The R1S is the concept vehicle that no car maker is brave enough to produce, except for Rivian and it will sell. Visually the R1S is awesome looking and I would love to own one but at 90K, it’s not feasible.
Maybe not for you but I keep seeing people complain about the price when tesla is able to sell model X starting at 120k and 140k for plaid
Yellow with the black 20's looks great.
I like how old school, but futuristic these both look.
Hi, I love the Forest green!
This thing reminds me of an 80s station wagon, with the extended roof and everything.
I'm glad they didn't screw up by not giving TFL an invite this time.
Styling is very pleasing to the eyes. I would be a R1S buyer for the fact of I need those extra seats with the family and sometimes picking friends up and heading out.
Good luck finding anything south of $100k and less than a year wait. IRL they are like any other super cars - have a poster on the wall and be excited!
Good looking and I like the length. But the price is too high, especially for the model that doesn't give you the anticipated 400 mile range. Give me a slower 0-60 time, faster charging and more range for that money.
Great job Andre 👍 I like the forest green
I think this looks great, inside and out. But that price? Have mercy...
Very nice. Would love the off road capable R1S. Thanks Andre.
I really want to see this tested off road. It'll be a LONG time before I can afford something like this unfortunately, but I'm very eager to see a good electric off-roader. If we could get a good electric rock crawler with an appropriate suspension and whatever the ev equivalent of good low-range gearing is, I would sell my soul to get it.
Just watch the R1T video, it’s literally the same vehicle…..
@@faffabout9412 I'm wondering if the different departure angle will make an appreciable difference.
@@zachariewright1690 Hmm, possibly
Wouldn't you want a smaller rim/larger tire profile for an off-road version though?
It all depends on the brake calliper dimensions if it will allow to put a smaller rim size
it's odd they have an embargo on the interior. They gave an R1S to iJustine and her sister to review over a month ago and they gave a full tour of the interior and exterior on each of their RUclips channels.
She has 7 million subscribers and 900k views. They probably thought that it would catch more eyeballs at the outset.
Love the design, and can't wait until mine is delivered!
Looks great. I hope they sell them down under in Australia. I hated evs until Rivian totally changed my mind with their Ute (what we call trucks) and this suv looks great too. That green one with the black 22 inch wheels looked great. I like the presenter too. He sounded excited.
I saw the green one last Sunday in upstate new york, can tell by the license plate.
Have a Tesla Y now but once my wife is ready to let go of her Rav4, we will be getting a Rivian. Both brands are just awesome.
Looks like Rivian learned from the last go around and made sure to invite you guys this time.
I am not a fan of EVs at all. That said, I was able to drive an R1T last week and all I can say is WOW! It was very impressive. EVs still have a long way to go, but Rivian seems to be doing something right. I also drove a F-150 Lighting at the same event and it was nice, but that Rivian was awesome!
So… why are you not a fan of ev if you just said you had good experiences with both?
@@jowarrior I enjoyed driving them and it was very "cool", but I wouldn't buy one until they fix the major issue they have, RANGE! As a "truck" guy, I can appreciate engineering and be blown away with speed and performance and not rush out to purchase one. It's a beautiful truck, inside and out!
@@k20fa5 I understand your point (share most of it tbh) I was just surprised with the language you choose “I’m not a fan at all”.
You’re just a regular guy that is not an early adopter and will wait till the options become more mature and the gap between what you need and what is offered closes to some acceptable compromise.
Sorry for the question, but ultimately I understand your point and share most of it myself.
@@jowarrior Exactly. It was like nothing else I've ever driven before. Kind of like crawling into the space shuttle. It was very impressive what they have done, but they have a long way to go still. For the near future, when and if I need a new truck, I'm sticking with ICE.
@@k20fa5 I understand that, same here tbh. But I can see some use cases for the electric fleet pickup truck. And I’m glad we have options in the market at an okish price (f150 pro). I’m a proponent of options above all, the more options we have the better even if I’m not a customer (at the moment).
I love the look of the R1S! It looks so tough IMO.
One of the best looking SUVs for sure.
I love the two shades of green.
Put in my reservation for an R1S in May. Willing to wait 12 months for this beauty. After 12 months……. Not sure we can hold out. Fingers crossed!
Absolutely love the R1S. It reminds me so much of my L322 Range Rover, just brought into the future/modernized.
Forest Green on Sport Dark 22”s, my exact config! Looks so good on video. Andre, when does the embargo lift?
I really want one but I’m not keen on the 1st gen just yet but this is my #1 for next vehicle.
We can’t wait for our reservation to come in! So stoked…
There are 15-20yr old suvs and trucks on the road, do you think any electric vehicle would last that long?
This company has had such a rocky existence I wouldn't be surprised if they went belly up.
Sure plenty of hybrids otr that old or older now, the first few tesla roadsters came out back in 2008.
Earliest leafs are 12+year's old now. The guy who runs our next energy has a 1913 baker electric that still works and Jay Leno has another baker 1914 electric still roadworthy. 👍🏻
I was ready to order one of these until I found out you can't get it with a full size spare. How am you supposed to take it off roading without an actual spare tire?
Roof rack it. Or get a hitch carrier.
Range lost is about the same as the lightning video where the dealer leveled it and put 34s on it.
Still not completely sold on electric vehicles and the front styling leaves some to be desired but these seem to be the better options available right now.
That green looks great
No interior tour yet dang😔😔😔.... That green is beautiful, just need to see that 3rd row
I hate the front headlights - but I’m otherwise super impressed with what they’ve done. I do have an R1S on order but will try and black out the headlight ring.
The first thing I would do after delivery is rip those obnoxiously large letters off the back.
Pretty sure you won’t be buying one.
@@sammydavis991 No, I won't. It's too inefficient, and the front end looks like an old Renault.
If they made a 400mile range version of the R1S, I would have one in order.
You said the price was $90k for the R1S, and online they still show it starting at $72k. If you build it, it quickly becomes more expensive, and it does say price may vary at time of delivery. In a C&D article it recently said $83k start. I’d like to order one, but I’ve got to say the pricing is confusing.
True. Basically the price that went up is with some features and the quad motor. I did configure an R1S for 72k and still was leather interior and panoramic roof, driver+ and still 4x4 etc, and 600+ hp.
So, they have plenty of options to still be around the same price as before. Not the ones with all the toys.
Nice truck! If I didn't have a Cybertruck reserved I'd be seriously considering getting one.
Can’t wait to see more videos on the R1S! Also, was this in Windham NY?
I wish they swap the tail and front light configuration
Did you guys get a chance to film the interior? We're interested in seeing if the third row will be good for road trips with the kids.
There was a tech reviewer who did a road trip with R1S and shared their views, so doesn't make sense why they still have embargo on ineriror view. It seems strange that a tech reviewer was given a factory vehicle for review witout any restrictions, but they have embargo for auto juornalists !!
That's messed up you couldn't show the interior. Rivian let Jenna Ezarik take the R1S on a road trip for a week on her channel. She showed the exterior/interior and she's not even an auto reviewer🤔😶😄😄
I saw that video. It’s odd they wouldn’t let them show it
There ya go, proving that TFL is not 1st! Careful you might get banned. 😉
I’m not an EV fan however if I were in the market I’d go for these over a Tesla ANYDAY
I would love to get an R1S. I would like it with dual motors, an LFP battery, and 400 miles range. That should hit all the sweet spots. 90k though, Ouch.
Are we going to see an extended Rivian R1S with the wheelbase of the R1T?
I hope so
Highly unlikely, in the next 5-10 years it’s possible; the next versions have already been in the works and are smaller not larger…
@@FZ6Dude I believe they will make a affordable version for the masses or a 2 doors for more off-road… I just want to know the range in frozen condition
@@jminaya90 Correct they are actively working on the smaller more affordable models to be produced in Georgia. Who knows they may come out with something larger too much later on… Rivian did extensive sub zero testing on both the batteries and the encased housing around the batteries. I think we will see vast improvements over current electric vehicles out for cold weather driving.
Love the style. Thank for sharing. Great video.
I would love the R1S.
Happy there is a 3 row electric suv that can support large families on road trips. Can't wait for more like this to come I am done with the crossover gang of electrics.
I love those Rivian
Andre where is the max pack? For the suv.
Is it just me, or is panel alignment pretty bad on that green one? Looks like different size gaps and misaligned panels everywhere.
It’s you
Andre, IJustine and Jenna Ezarik did a full interior and road trip to Yosemite showing the R1S over a month ago.. Why would Rivian have it in place this time?
What a great machine, unfortunately for the average American it’s priced out of (way out) our budgets. One kid in college and 150k annual income with mortgage I can’t afford it. So a Ford F-150 or maybe a Hyundai/Kia. Makes me envious of those who can afford it.😔 Starting at 90k… Wow!
I think the difference in price would be made up in the gas savings. Can you tell me how much you spend on gas every month on an F150?
At $5.29 per gal. I’m spending right at $150. Per vehicle X 2 vehicles. A loan on a Rivian after tax license an fees and a modest few add ons came in at $1597.00 per month for 5 years. So fuel savings won’t recoup the difference. It was my omission, I’m considering the F-150 Lightning not a regular F-150…. Brain Fart
Still waiting for Rivian to make a rally car/hatch. But this will definitely expand the practicality of their current lineup, which is important given the price.
Finally and Nice use the metric system
so rivian wants to take away the show from ford? Maybe they should start building trucks for customers instead
Wow Rivian went all out on original styling with this one! I guess the wheels make all the difference in the world
The front looks just like a Land Rover
I can't see myself in an R1S, but I'm super interested in n the R1T
I would love to see an R1C.
Thanks TFL - not that much new info but really appreciate a chance to see the colors. While I wouldn’t want a Forest Green R1T - it’s an awesome color on R1S.
Hey Andre, for your own good.. may I suggest you start a mild exercise program.
Rivian has the perfect size and performance truck for most people but all EV’s seemed to cost way to much and EV charging hasn’t been standardized for travel yet so any vehicle can charge at any station with fast high current charging”
BTW I live 30-40mins away from the factory and I've seen haulers haul away rivians quite a bit to there destination I hope now ill be seeing Rivian R1S getting hauled to there new homes!
I can't wait for my R1S
The front end reminds me of a Renault 10
When will they allow you to show the interior and when can you post a video on driving impressions?
How come there wasn't any interior shots?
I'd love to buy a Rivian but they're so expensive.
How come you didn’t show the interior?
Crazy how much vehicles are
I love it except the headlight, which I hate.
We re going need some advisories on the embargo and making it fair to other journalist when there was two RUclips videos posted on the r1s a month ago on the RUclipsrs sisters trip to Yosemite i believe. Can you please advise ?
Where is this hotel? Seems fantastic.
Is that a Rivian Grand Cherokee?
Yes - my first thought as well. I do like the look though.
I enjoyed watching the Video. A very good looking Electric SUV
You were correct on pricing except if you are Kyle Connor then the March price cut off didn’t matter to him and an unethical Rivian employee who got him that deal.
