TRIP REPORT | First Time in Air Canada | B787 & B737MAX | Vienna to San Francisco (via Toronto)

- Air Canada Trip Report flying from Vienna to San Francisco (via Toronto) onboard one Air Canada Boeing 787-9 and a Boeing 737-8 MAX on a nice winter day.
An average flight onboard the Air Canada Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Boeing 737MAX. Probably the fact that there were lots of clouds didn't help to get a good mood... but also the B787 cabin didn't help either. The legroom was on the edge for a long-haul cabin and the windows were dirty.
On top of that, the crew dimmed all the windows without asking or saying anything just after the meal service. In my opinion, that's probably the most disrespectful thing the cabin crew can do on a Boeing 787. The only reason why they do it is to make the passengers fall asleep (taking no care if they should sleep or not due to the time change) and that way avoid anyone from disturbing them for hours. I knew I shouldn't have taken a flight in 787 exactly because of this. They didn't block the windows but they were dimming them all the time, even though many passengers didn't want their windows to be dimmed.
The onboard service started around 1h after takeoff. There were 2 options: chicken or pasta. Both were extremely simple. A chickpea salad was the starter and a piece of dry cake made the function of dessert. Sadly, I must say this was among the worst food to date on a transatlantic flight. The crew didn't pass during the next 6h through the cabin with drinks. 1h before landing, that means, 7h after the first tiny meal, they offered a small warm snack.
The positive thing about the first flight was that, surprisingly, we landed well ahead of schedule. I was monitoring the flight punctuality for the last 2 weeks (because of the connecting flight to SFO) and rare was the day when the delay was lower than 1-2 hours. Today, luckily, it was an exception to that. We landed around 20 minutes early after a windy approach.
We had a 3h layover at Toronto airport, before boarding the Air Canada Boeing 737MAX that would take us to San Francisco. The aircraft landed ahead of schedule from its previous destination (Nassau), but we still boarded late and took off with almost 30 minutes delay.
The onboard service on this 5h flight was completely "pay-per-eat". The menu looked quite nice, with several food options that could be part of a long-haul menu. I bought a 3-Cheese Pizza and a Salad. Soft drinks were complimentary. All were very tasty, especially the salad. I must say as well, that the crew on this second flight was much better than the one on the first one: very polite, engaging with the passengers, walking through the aisle for anything the passengers would need... exactly the opposite from the ones on the Boeing 787.
Due to turbulence during the last 2h of the flight, there was no second service as planned. We landed in San Francisco 10 minutes ahead of schedule after a beautiful approach over the city and the Bay of San Francisco.
Now it's your turn!
Have you ever flown with Air Canada? Which route? How was the experience? Which model did you fly? Have you ever been in Toronto? Maybe in San Francisco or Vienna? Have you ever flown on the B737MAX or B787? What do you think about the Air Canada service?
Lots of things to talk about! Read you all in the comments!

Hey! I really love your videos! I wait every Saturday to watch them. I subscribed and hit the notification button. Also, if you could, could you fly the Sharjah to Goa route by Air Arabia? If you could, I will be really happy!
@@johanshome AIR CANADA'S RUN BY FRAUD GOV..
I experienced the same during my flight from Frankfurt to Vancouver. There was one drink service and that was ist for a 9 hour flight
I can't wait to on air canada to Vancouver 😊. Thanks for sharing
Me encanta tu canal, tus videos son adictivos 😂😂
Sigue asi!!!!
The only airline that takes so much pride in making every announcement second time in French :) :)
finally air canada i been waiting for this vid
Belíssima Aeronave Bom Vídeo 🇧🇷

Loved it 💙
A wonderful flight. Pizza looked very tasty. Thank you. Like flying with you 😊
Thanks!
Yeah, I was surprised by the 2nd flight catering. It was much better than expected :)
I am looking forward to it. I like going on holiday especially by airplane or coach. What a good airline youtuber you are OnboardHD
Thanks so much, Robyn!
Glad that you enjoy these videos so much! :)
I said it during the stream btw
Also, you can always ring the call bell for extra drinks….they will not refuse you a drink….guarantee it 🇨🇦
I can’t wait to see b787 cabin😊😊
Let's see how it went!
There are 2 flights in this Trip Report: B787 and B737MAX :)
It's your blog that has given me a new direction of TV viewing in my lonely life after retirement. My best wishes to On Board.
You need to book a trip.
I sat in 26F as well on C-FSEQ, a different AC MAX 8!
Thank you
excellent presentation , good job
Super Video wie immer weiter so !!!! Grüße aus Stuttgart !!
Enjoyed the 18 hour trip on Air Canada 🇨🇦. Love all of your videos to exciting destinations. Makes me want to fly 🙋🏼♀️👍🏻🇺🇸
Looking forward to this!
Hope you'll enjoy it! :)
One advantage of the dimmable windows is that the crew can control it for landing and take-off. But for the rest those windows only have drawbacks.
Watching your videos makes me wondering travel the world too. Unfortunatelly I have to work like the aztecs and can not do it remote.
The first time I flew with Air Canada was in 2016 on the fifth freedom route from Santiago de Chile to Buenos Aires. The entire experience from the check-in booth to the disembark was the worst. The check-in booths opened 90 minutes past the scheduled time; we waited 45 minutes in the queue after the announcement was made to queue up to board the plane; the ground staff didn't care about it; the rude stewardess refused to serve me coffee because the seat belt lights were on then ignored me when the lights were switched off; I was served the pathetic dish of sliced pineapple from the business class when Air Canada didn't log in my vegetarian meal option; and so forth. A Canadian passenger next to me was embarrassed and felt bad for me that he went to the gallery to fetch coffee for me. Never again with Air Canada!
Well the coffee situation is safety. It's ridiculous to think the Cabin Crew would come back and remember you wanted coffee and offer it to you individually after the sign came off
I am missed. My favorite channel the program
Your videos are such a delight to watch. Especially when you ask for a 2nd helping. North American carriers are worst in food service followed closely by the Europeans. Thumbs up for Asian and especially the Middle Eastern carriers for great food service
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Nice video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video can you do a trip report of the Qatar Airways A380
Nice flights, especially liked the sunset over Canada/US. Never seen pizza on a plane before, how’d it taste?
Very nice. May I ask why all departures avoid flying over the city of Vienna??? 🤔
I usually try and fly Air Canada/Star Alliance carriers to/from Canada as an Aeroplan member. Food (both quality and quantity) is not AC's strongest point and, as a big guy, the 787 is cramped especially if the flight is full. That's why I usually seek an upgrade to Premium Economy or even Business, if available. Benefits of Aeroplan Elite Status.
I guess the experience must be much better in Premium Econmomy... I might give it a try in the flight :)
Impressive and impossible to believe, and sensational, more than l have a dream come true of working in a car dealership,l also have Flightradar 24 to follow.
So we not going to talk about them clapping about the landing 😭 Btw can you fly with TUI from LGW or fly with Tui again but love the content
I have been watching quite a few of your videos recently and i have to say they have all been very good. Im hoping to fly to Vienna in September, noticed some of the flights you've been on, have departed from there. Have you ever done a detailed video of Vienna airport?
No, but it's a very easy airport to use. And usually has very nice fares. That's why I use it frequently.
Wish you a great trip!
Hey @OnBoardHD, I recommend that to travel from Charlotte (North Carolina, USA) to Mumbai (Maharashtra, India) with Lufthansa?
@ 12:38, isn't that the highway from the TV series, 'Highway thru Hell' that takes place in Canada? I want to say the 401?
lol the claps people just want to get the hell out 🤣🤣
I didn't even know that they serve pizza on board maybe perhaps I should travel on Air Canada someday
You poor thing! You must have famished the whole time!! Vienna Airport pioneered and opened the very first supermarket in an airport over 40 years ago, a BILLA. It followed a SPAR and since last month BILLA Corso is now back in the arrival level of the terminal. I always get my sandwiches and snacks for the flight. Air Canada has gone way down in service. In YYZ you saw only part of the US Bound terminal. There are really a lot of shops and 2 very busy Tim Horton's coffee shops.
Thank you for sharing your long-haul trip. We're you able to go to Star Alliance or Air Canada Lounge in Vienna before boarding to relax before your first flight across the Atlantic? Also, we're you able to get a reservation in Premium Economy because I noticed after hearing a lot of conversations are going on around you!!!!
I hope the persons next to you on both flights were not sleep on your left shoulder or talking too much to you!!! And on your second flight, was there availability in the Exit Rows further in the middle area of that 737? The leg room is better there!!! And could you get an upgrade to Business Class? Long-haul trips on smaller aircraft is very interesting and not comfortable many times!!
The remote dimming feature (and the crew being able to block the controls) is the main reason why I avoid flying a B787. It’s a shame as it seems to be a nice plane, but I cannot stand when I book a window seat that I’m unable to control my window shade
8:06 XD tarta de mármol
yes
Hmmmmm.... Intresting 🤑😀 What airlines do you think belong with the b787?
I don't understand your question... =/
Oh sorry I rushed it, I was meant to say what airline like air Canada should have the b787?
Unusual to see a plane with no winglets? The first plane you flew
Por que se evita sobrevolar viena ? 🤔
Can you go on a british airways a350
AIR Canada Rouge...Toronto to Dublin...never again...legroom was appalling...only suited for short haul.
Nice video! 🙂
Mate, I have two questions how much money do you spend each year on flying? And what do you do when you reach different cities all around the world, do you do sight seeing or what?
I try to keep it as low as possible.
Sometimes I visit the places... sometimes it's just for a connecting flight.
Can you come to Kenya one day flying with Kenya airways
25:04 The FA clearly doesn't know the MAX well enough haha
We took Air Canada in November 2022 to Jamaica from Toro to. We had the large 2-4-2 plane it was a fantastic flight we paid for xtra legroom so we were in the emergency exit row window seat and beside. Service was great no complaints.
So you flew on the A330. nice!
I'm looking forward to visting Jamaica again! Lovely island :)
Can you gon klm a330
CN Tower @21.16
Thanks for the video. Personally, I don't really like Air Canada, the meals are cheap, the service is bad in general, with some exceptions.
She didn't even know how many exits on the Max ("3 on each side")
A mí me parece incluso demasiada cantidad
Don’t like clapping on a plane ✈️
North American carriers really suck at food and service on long haul flights. At least Westjet doesn't claim to be anything other than a budget airline. Delta, American Airlines and Air Canada just provide you with the budget experience, for more money
European are even worse. They really downgraded during last few years
I am shocked at such poor service from AC!! I fly very often on UNITED from Europe to the US and they always do a full midflight beverage service. Sometimes you get a midflight ice cream in economy class!
🛫🛬✈️🧳💺🌍🌎🌏🌐🗺️✈️✈️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇺🇸🇺🇸
Buy-on-board food on a 6hrs long flight? 😂
You should complain if the staff is lazy.
I'm doing it in this video :)
7:35 , 😋😋🍇🍈🍉🍅🍓🍎🍗🍔🍞🍖🥙🥘🌭🍕🍟, solamente ,
787 has a goofy AHH cabin
Aisle perhaps?
Lazy crew. What are they doing for 7 hours if they're not looking after their passengers?
Not so much lazy crew as a cheap company….they don’t cater enough beverages to do extra services. Hope they will change this
Air Canada is the worst service in North America.
@@wicked_smaaht best
They have “quiet quit”
Is funny haw today he crew call themselves director of flight manager of flight ? In old days was only purse and the service was excellent ! Now to many directors and managers on flight and people have to serve themself ? Soon the crew will ask the passengers to collect all food plate and rubbish 😂😂😂
After buying and paying for the seat upgrade for extra leg room…, only to find out air Canada sold the seats twice on the way down to Mexico and then they did it again on the way back home…., have had past problems with air Canada but not as bad as the last trip.
Will do everything in my power to never fly with this company ever again.
sui
Clapping on a non middle east flight. Interesting.
haha It's more common than people thinks :)
Air Canada just isn't a very good airline. Pretty much everyone says that.
Its not just Air Canada. Canada as a country is really outdated , lack of good service low wages, higher taxes, high cost of living. Its all contributing to this low level.
Toronto looks awful.
What a SEVERELY overrated airline.
I don't know if overrated is the word... but I was expecting something different I guess...
Air canada has the worst crew!
