  • Hey, people! I have a new song for you. Enjoy. :)
First things first: The gorgeous artwork used in this video is concept art of Luthadel by Raul Rosell, initially made as a concept for a Mistborn game project called the "Ashes Project". I received permission from Raul Rosell to use this artwork for this video. Check more awesome art by Raul here: raulrosell.art...
Finally, after all these years, I've finally come up with a follow-up song for "Lament for Kelsier". This is shortly after the time of mourning, when everyone starts realizing Kelsier's real plan and what it means for all of Luthadel and the Final Empire.
The people are rising. Kelsier's legacy lives on. People are claiming to have seen him and spoken to him after his death, reinforcing that he is the Survivor. All the skaa who could never muster the courage to stand up in rebellion before are finally galvanized to step up and overthrow the Final Empire. The crew that planned the Rebellion thought their plan had failed now that Kelsier was dead, but now they realize there was more to the plan than they ever understood. Kelsier has given them hope in his martyrdom and seeming survival. Vin and the crew don't know where they fit into the grand plan just yet (that's the next song once it's finished), but this is a song of hope for the skaa, constantly building, constantly rising as more and more people step up across the city, sparks of rebellion catching on and starting a bonfire.
    Motifs:
At 0:31, you hear a couple distinctive ostinatos from across various other songs I've posted, like as part of the Mistborn Suite. That piano ostinato is the "despair theme", but as it's playing, the horns and trumpets are playing the same thing, but slower and in reverse, because what's the inverse of despair? Hope! This is the sound of rising hope!
At 1:24, part of Kelsier's theme plays on the horns, because it's his influence that's instigating this rebellion. This was actually a late addition, because I was listening to what I'd written before and realized that all I was doing was writing a chord progression. I may have been adding instruments and increasing in volume, but it was still just chords. Then I thought, "Why not use Kelsier's theme again?" and I was like "Nah, that's overused as it is," and then I was like "But why not give it a try?" so I did and it worked perfectly. Fun story!
And then of course, another part of Kelsier's theme blares in the horns again right at 2:05 as a big "HOORAH" of hope, right as we crash into the major chord that finally breaks the minor chord progression cycle, to show that the cycle of despair and oppression is finally breaking.
I hope you enjoy listening! Comment below and tell me what you think! Like, subscribe, share, etc., and I'll be back with more music next time! See ya!

I love how it starts out kinda somber and mournful, representing all of innocent Skaa that were killed earlier in the Square of the Survivor, then shifts to a more hopeful tone, representing the Skaa rising up against the oppression of the Lord Ruler. At least, that's what I hear, haha. Great work man!

Believers in a Forgotten World is such an incredibly powerful title for the final section of TFE.
