TOMY Plarail Luke Unboxing review and first run

- Hi Guys and Gals, here we have Plarail Luke which i got from ebay. The cost of this engine was around US$40 incl delivery.
Luke is a small narrow gauge steam tank engine who was hiding because he thought he was in trouble for Victor falling in the ocean upon the pairs arrival to the island of Sodor. His secret was discovered in the Blue mountain mystery movie and it had a happy ending as you would expect.
This version of Luke I feel is more realistic to the character in the movie although you will pay a higher price for this locomotive than the trackmaster version if you live outside of Asia (I live in Australia which is in Asia geographically but we do not get plarail for sale here). The attention to detail is nice as is the better smaller size and proportions, 90% of the detail is tampo's not decals which is nice and it runs very well.
The battery compartment opens from underneath and holds a AA battery, this locomotive tracks well at a decent speed and looks very good when going along. Its hard to pick a favorite between the 2 versions as they have good and bad points.

Anyway I will add more goods/bads as i think of them but thats all i can think of at the moment having run them both a limited amount.

I was just mentioning to Ian Phillips about how similar some of the Trackmaster and Tomy Playrail trains are... Now on Luke, There are tons of differences! Thanks for the excellent Reviews and comparison!

Yes, for Plarail it's just "Luke". Honestly, Luke must have been a challenge for toy companies to create because he has such an unusual shape, but I think there has been some good effort put into both Luke's (I think the Take-n-Play was the few that were easier to make). Judging them, I think the Plarail one looks better looking at the front and from other angles, but TrackMaster Hideaway Luke hasn't been captured too badly, and both have one great truck, the Fireworks Van and the Barrel Truck.

I have to say you have a amazing collection of plarail trains. Also have to admit they are 100 times better then this new Trackmaster line. Much cheaper, and way less detail. The only positive thing is they are quiet and kinda fast. Other the that it's plarail all day...
Yes quite a lot of differences! here's hoping we get a good a range as the wooden range!

Good video. The TOMY Plarail Luke looks fully detailed than the TrackMaster one. :)
On a rating out of ten, I think TrackMaster Hideaway Luke gets a 6.5/10 and Plarail Luke gets an 7.5 since that one looks more pleasing and worth having. I'd like to know if speed varies between the same products because I have some feeling that most products weren't created equally.

I prefer the Plarail Luke. The funnel they got right, and the cab is bigger than the body.
nice train it also has gray wheels compared to the trackmaster which has black wheels.

Fisher Price should go with boxes like the Tomy boxes, less plastic and more carboard is alot better.

Gotta say I prefer the trackmaster Luke. The Tomy Luke does have better sticker details but trackmaster Luke had better molded details. Trackmaster Luke had better proportions and has a wheel arch. I prefer the trackmaster’s wagons as well.
i think plarail luke could do with some black wheels and modified tamiya rev tuned motor

I give the credit for Trackmaster Luke being fast and Plarail Luke for having way more detail :)
The Plarail Luke has more detail, and the only thing I think they should have done is made the Plarail Luke's wheels black. I just think Plarail Luke looks more like what you see in the TV show.

In the DVD BMQ, Luke had no Plate. So that means Plarail Luke Is Better.
Its a diecast keyring which i removed the chain from, its a licenced product
