*This is NOT describing matched pairs design.* What it is describing is crossover design.
Matched pairs design is where you create pairs of subjects that are matched based on certain criteria (hence the name). E.g. if you wanted to control for the lurking variables of gender and age, you would create pairs of subjects that were matched on age and gender (so one pair might be two 57 year old women, another might be two 60 year old men); then you would flip a coin to determine which subject of the pair was assigned to the control group and which to the treatment group.

Doesn't this actually describe a crossover, rather than a matched pairs design?

Great, I watched it out of boredom, and I actually understood something useful. Really neat :)
