    Just a quick update in case it helps anyone else. The Serial device that I used allowed me to flash the Sonoff. But when I tried to restart it and access it through the serial intefrace it was not seen by Windows. For some reason it was detected by windows when I held the button to ground pin 1. But when I didn't hold the button, it was just not seen by windows. It could partly be the computer at fault. I found a different usb-serial device. And it worked perfectly. So it was not the Sonoff that was faulty, it was the USB-Serial device..I measured the voltages on each. The one that didn't work was 3.1V. The one that worked was 3.4V Final result is a success. Many thanks Vicious. All of your instructions worked perfectly once I had good hardware.

      Heh, love my dog. She loves to interrupt. I have been doing this for a while and am a bit of a perfectionist. I was teaching people how to do professional audio and video encoding a decade ago. I just barely squeeze these videos in with free time as a hobby with minimal time to really do them the way I want, so glad that passes as good quality :)

    Hi, nice tutorial. Just wanted to add a note that with latest Tasmota, there's now an easier way to configure once flashed. When it boots without a config, it will create its own unsecured WiFi (Tasmota-xxxx) for around 3 mins. Connect to that WiFi with your phone and it will automatically pop open a web browser like a WiFi hotspot would (at 192.168.4.1). Once you're connected you can configure everything in the Tasmota UI :-)

    Wow- Thanks. I saw your tutorial mentioned on Dr Zzz a few days ago and thought I would just keep using my Arduino IDE.
    But then, after flashing Tasmota on three Sonoff Basic's something went wrong and no more of my Sonoff's will connect to the net after flashing from the IDE. The light just blinks endlessly. So, OK, let's try ESPEasy. Works the first time! Tomorrow I will try it on a Sonoff 4ch Pro.

    Excellent video, thank you! One comment: do not use the static ip address config method as shown by the video if you do not know what you are doing! The static address you provide with address1 can easily be within the dynamic address range managed by your wifi router, causing all kinds of connectivity problems in your wifi network.

    • @ViciousXUSMC
      @ViciousXUSMC  5 лет назад

      True :) I hope that I made it clear enough about how that works and why you would use it. It's very good to have static IP's on your devices for automation purposes and that tip was for those who do not have a way to do DHCP reservations or want persistent IP in multiple environments.

    Thank you for a GREAT video....... Just some info to pass on....In case others, like me, needed help....thought; I can't be the only one with a WiFi issue AFTER flashing the new Sonoff-Tasmota-Release 6.3.0 !!!!
    My 'WiFi Analyzer shows '0' (ZERO) transmitter output power from the SonOff, while the 'Termite' terminal read (no matter which bin I used):
    00:00:00 Project sonoff Sonoff (Topic sonoff, Fallback DVES_6771E4, GroupTopic sonoffs) Version 6.3.0-2_3_0
    00:00:00 WIF: Connecting to AP1 (my ssid) in mode 11N as sonoff-4580...
    00:00:09 WIF: Connect failed as AP cannot be reached
    ..............over and over again.....
    My Analyzer showed PLENTY of power from my router! Even placing the Sonoff Basic within 3-4' of the router did NOT CONNECT!!
    Then I found: ...github.com/arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota/issues/3289 Finally, OTHERS with this issue...
    I downloaded a much OLDER version..Sonoff-Tasmota-Release 5.1.4. Erased the Sonoff memory (with esptool), Flashed with FlashESP8266.exe and...after about 5 minutes...SUCCESS, WiFi working, ALL OK!!!

    I really struggled but eventually succeeded. Many thanks for this! First, my Win10 laptop had issues with its ports, then I needed to download an updated driver for the flashing device (I used the same model as you,) next I struggled to get the Sonoff into flash mode (I needed to hold the button for 5-10 seconds after plugging in the flashing device), next my RX needed to go to RX and my RT to RT on the Sonoff (?), and then -- after pulling all my hair out -- it worked. It took me two hours of faffing but then only 15 minutes to flash two Sonoffs and configure with static IPs. I have two more to do and then I need to try get them working with SmartThings. Ta!

      banging my head against the wall at the moment with the same things. You give me hope! i'm going to try reversing my pins, (i do have a cheap usb to serial adapter) hoping that is the problem. also thanks for the 5-10 seconds thing. from the video it looked like it worked right away after he plugged it in but even as some others have mentioned i'm getting a flash complete in like .5 seconds after pushing the button. so i know it's not working correctly.

    Great tutorial! Still have not been able to get it to work with my sonoffs -- unable to connect with termite to enter ssid/pw -- getting long fail message as has been described by others. HOWEVER, I have been able to flash to nodemcu and d1 mini boards. This brings me to my question. Given the multiple pins accessible on nodemcu/d1mini, is there a way to control multiple relays on one board with mqtt? When configuring tasmota on these boards there is only the option to put in one mqtt topic -- new to mqtt but seems I need to have more than one topic to control multiple relays. I would like to control my 2 garage doors with one board using mqtt through homekit on an ios device through homebridge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Stupid question, but how will I add it to my app on the phone after doing this. The tutorial and software is great. I was able to flash the new software with no issues and this was my first attempt. Now that I added it to my network connection but I am unsure of of to add it to the software that you would normally use such as Ewelink. Is there a different app that you would recommend using?

    • @asadulhuq
      @asadulhuq 6 лет назад

      I am not sure, however, I suppose you can't use ewelink app or even no other app is available to control the sonoff with a phone. You can use ipaddress to control on a pc or on a web browser on Phone, I guess.

    Amazing methodology, I have an issue with it though using a Sonoff Basic. When I flash the firmware over then wire it up. It refuses to power on. I can power it up using the USB flashing device and it can power up with default software, but when I install to tasmota it doesn't power up even following the easy esp and tasmota release links provided. Dont suppose there's any thoughts behind this?

    • @ViciousXUSMC
      @ViciousXUSMC  5 лет назад

      No, powering on is pure hardware the firmware shouldn't matter. Very odd. My only similar issue was a defective one I had where it would power on via jumper pins but not on mains power and it lost its programing every time i disconnected it.

      I have not personally tried one of those, but as long as you find the same pins everything should work the same.

    Can Tasmoda (or other firmware) be configured as a WIFI AP such that my smart phone would connect to it to control it?
    ie, I dont have any internet nor wifi router in the area it will be used; only this device.

    Thank you for the tutorial. I originally tried Dr.Z's method and got it to flash but couldn't connect to the access point. I was hoping your method would work but I'm running into the same issue. I got it to flash without any issue. Got termite to connect and set ssid/pw and it provided me with the IP. Tried pinging and couldn't see it either. It also seems to turn on/off by itself. I'm coming to the conclusion this might be a hardware issue now. I'd appreciate any feedback you can provide. Thanks again!

      I had 1 out of 8 of mine be bad. I could flash it and program it, but soon as I took it off power and powered it back on things went sideways.

    Following this gave me a lot of trouble with a Sonoff POW R2, which got horribly slow and unstable operation after flashing Tasmota. Got it to work with a different flashing procedure.

    Hey man, I got some sonoff Basic R2 V1.1 from China and they are said that they can only work in China. (It won't connect to wifi in Canada) Will flashing the software solve the problem?

    Hey, Could you please tell me whether by this method can I flash my Sonoff Basic Module running Official Firmware version 1.6.0 ?

      Yes, I know of no reason it will not work based on firmware. You are going to over-write the firmware so it has no effect on the process.
