It would be nice to do Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Mobutu Sese Seko, Seretse Khama, Samora Machel, Julius Nyerere, Shaka Zulu & Jonas Savimbi, if possible also cover Jan van riebeeck. Cover African leadership
There's a German metal band called Running Wild that made a song about William Kidd. It's a really great song that tells his story about how he was branded as a pirate, was eventually found guilty, and finally wound up being hung, drawn, and quartered. The song sheds a lot of light on his story, showing he never intended to be a pirate in the first place. Fate just had different plans for him.
The ship he took was outside of his Marc and he didn't even return the loot to the crown. He might not have thought of himself as a Pirate, but that was because he would have to admit he was the worse!
I was going to ask for a documentary on him. You’ve surely brought me great joy, good sir! All the thanks to you and the team. You all are people of gallant quality.
Excellent as always Simon! Thanks for this one. If I may make a request, would you please consider an episode on Vassili Zaitsev, the deadliest sniper in the Red Army at Stalingrad? Would love to hear your take on him, please and thanks!
"rated ARRRRR" "Once you raise the black, you can't go back". If it weren't for his videos on history, Simon would have a promising career as the world's most formal shitposter.
Thanks for the video. Interesting subject as usual. Maybe it's just me, but even with the volume turned all the way up I cannot understand Simon when he gets all growly when he talks.
In 1699, my 8th great grandfather’s first cousin Cornelius Quick and another relative transported two chests of Captain Kidd’s treasure around New York harbor and testified in court. Not the only time pirates show up on the family tree, but definitely the most notorious name!
My introduction to William Kidd was "Captain Kidd" from the lesser known "World Heroes" fighting game series. But its fascinating and intriguing to learn the true story behind the name.
Sir Nicholas Winton? I don't know if you read these or not, but I found this man Sir Nicholas Winton. It is a tragically beautiful story, I know that you are use to presenting the horrors of the Holocaust, but I think it could be interesting for everyone to see how the actions of one person saved so many lives and he kept it a secret for so long. Thank you Simon, love your channels and keep up the great work. 🙃
I stopped watching this halfway through, turned on subtitles and backtracked just to make sure I heard this correctly. "French, Spanish, Dutch, Romulan it didn't really matter". I don't remember the episode of Star Trek where a Bird of Prey was attacked by pirates but now I want to see it more than anything.
Suggestions: Johnny Carson, the undisputed King of late night television. Dick Clark, America's oldest "teenager". Redd Foxx, one of the original African American kings of comedy.
Kidd's problem was that he didn't politic with those crews, by securing blood oaths of alliance "as needed" and for this, the crews demanding piracy would be given a non-flagship vessel, and share new information with trusted persons at particular ports and pubs. He could have easily done this and walked several English ships into a tangled web where one crew would pretend to lay seige on a town just close enough to a major port that any big guns could and would mobilize, but just far enough that their absence would provide the time to sack their larger port and capture a governor. Yes, he could have done much better than a mere commission of a privately built ship it seems.
Good to hear that the Romulans were free game? I used to drink at a pub in Wapping called The Captain Kidd. He was executed nearby and the pub was right on the river with a lovely backgarden.
Whats with the 'epic' music at about 5:35, it got hard to hear Simon. It is really all about the story he tells, not an editors soundscape interruptions.
How about doing biographies on El Cid and the unsinkable Molly Brown? El Cid was such an imposing figure, even dead, he was able to scare an opposing army.
They all did when you get right down to it. Even Blackbeard was broke before he was captured, and as Simon has covered in the past, there is no evidence that any pirate ever buried treasure anywhere.
interestingly enough, the earliest pirates were renegade Catholic mariners mostly from Portugal, Spain & France. the English / British joined the party much later, yet they've done the best job at monopolizing and commercializing their pirate stories over everyone else.
I think a bio Charles Trevelyean would make a great video. A hated figure who was a civil servant made famous or infamous by the songs Fields of Athenry
what was the name of the video where a man was going around the us in the mid 1920-1940s ish killing mostly men and giving the wintesses who were in the car with the victim notes, the witness was usually a mistress of the husband. any help would be awesome

He should have just gone with it and made off with the loot
Just gave it a listen based on your suggestion, awesome song 🤘
@Princess Olmeca That sounds interesting! I'll check it out.
Listening to this, I'm sure William Kidd turns in his grave every time he's called a "notorious pirate". More like the most reluctant pirate ever 😬
Learn to spell
@Jej Bsh I did. Which is why I didn't misspell anything, according to Standard English.
The ship he took was outside of his Marc and he didn't even return the loot to the crown.
He might not have thought of himself as a Pirate, but that was because he would have to admit he was the worse!
@@lostbutfreesoul
or he did what he had to do to prevent having his skull split open by his own crew and a boarding ax.
@im not your friend buddy ikr! Lol. That's why I said reluctant 😂
I was going to ask for a documentary on him.
You’ve surely brought me great joy, good sir! All the thanks to you and the team. You all are people of gallant quality.

Absolute legend
Back in the day...missed by a couple months. "Dang so close!"
Try years lol 😂
I would love more pirate Biographics videos. This one was great.
True, learned a little about Captain Kidd in middle school, my teacher didn't know if he was a kid or if he got the name from his stature. 😑
There’s a bunch on the channel already.
"Robert Livingstone,, we presume" -lol nice
The persona of Ryuji Sakamoto!
Blast'em away CAPTAIN KIDD
Excellent as always Simon! Thanks for this one. If I may make a request, would you please consider an episode on Vassili Zaitsev, the deadliest sniper in the Red Army at Stalingrad? Would love to hear your take on him, please and thanks!
My name is Captain Kidd, as I sail, as I sail!
Never thought I'd see a video from Simon Whistler on Ryuji's Persona.
"Left bereft of booty" just won best sentence of the day. Lol.
😂 yes. Even better than shindigs and hootenannies
This pirate deserves his own movie or TV show.
If he didn’t have bad luck then he’d have no luck at all.
I hope you guys cover Philippe Pétain some day. Please?
Ah Kidd, the good old 'Anti-Pirate.'
If you want an example of now how to do it... look at Kidd!
Love the pirate biographics. Please do Edward Low next. He went too far even by pirate standards
I wonder if he’s suppose to have the powers of magnetism.
Greenock - Gree (as in "green") and Knock. Gree-knock. Greenock. 👍
"rated ARRRRR" "Once you raise the black, you can't go back". If it weren't for his videos on history, Simon would have a promising career as the world's most formal shitposter.
Captain Kidd should have been the new yonko instead of Buggy.
One Piece before One Piece
Thanks for the video. Interesting subject as usual. Maybe it's just me, but even with the volume turned all the way up I cannot understand Simon when he gets all growly when he talks.
Now this is one I’ve been waiting on!
the one piece is real
Brilliant video once again Simon, may I suggest a video on Dante Alighieri?
Lol@ Dr.Livingston I presume reference
In 1699, my 8th great grandfather’s first cousin Cornelius Quick and another relative transported two chests of Captain Kidd’s treasure around New York harbor and testified in court. Not the only time pirates show up on the family tree, but definitely the most notorious name!
Quite the story, snarf ! Ancestry, .much ?
Pretty sure you made that up.
Lets see, back then some of my ancestors were fighting against the invading Europeans. Other of my ancestors were among the invading Europeans.
I mean i have a small feeling i have pirates in my family
Recommendation for Biographics: Christopher Hitchens.
Dear Simon, please do a video about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk!
My introduction to William Kidd was "Captain Kidd" from the lesser known "World Heroes" fighting game series. But its fascinating and intriguing to learn the true story behind the name.
Heyy coincidence that this showed up I'm reading pirate hunter right now based of kidd
12:14 I see what you did there. Captain America also understands the reference.
Hi Simon, is there any chance we can get a series on British Prime Minsters like with US Presidents please?
Thank you
I love videos about pirates ;)
Broadly speaking, I feel like he got screwed over by things that were out of his control.
Fun fact for any one piece fans this guy was the inspiration for Captian Kid from one piece, the supernova
I had an inkling about that 🙌🏼
Came here to check if it was true that he was known as the un luckiest pirate after the most recent chapter 1079
I just found out that William Kidd is my 8th great grand father, and I've been trying to dig up everything I can on him. This was perfect!
Not true
🧢🧢
i found out i am also related to him
8:20 "French, Spanish, Dutch ... Romulan ...." ROFL
Up next: Captain Morgan and his Hammond Organ
Patchy the Pirate
Burger Beard
Cut Throat Jake.
YESSSSSS I literally asked if you covered William Kidd. And look, you did !!!
Awesome as always - can you please do a video of German fighter pilot Hans Joachim Marseille?
I don't know about Kidd, but I like your beard, and that jacket is cool.
Sir Nicholas Winton?
I don't know if you read these or not, but I found this man Sir Nicholas Winton. Thank you Simon, love your channels and keep up the great work. 🙃
Damn been watching biographics when they color coded the thumbnails. Loving all of it.
Could you do a vid on general mark milly thanks
10:45 Oh yes, nothing sexier than a man you can't understand :D I love you, Scottish people, but you have the most difficult accent ever
Please do a video on charles vane

No mention of Kidd finding some giants? Huh, weird.

"Livingston, I presume." I saw what you did there....

WHOS HERE FOR RYUJI
There is a Book, Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean. Most of these Jewish pirates preyed on Spanish ships as payback for the Spanish Inquisition.
Captain William Kidd: From Pirate to Pirate to Pirate.
yes pirate-y bits! always a blast
This story totally plays out like a session of the retro video game pirates gold. That was a great game
His videos never disappoint.
Captain Kidd with Charles Laughton.
Good movie. Free to watch on RUclips.
How about doing biographies on El Cid and the unsinkable Molly Brown? El Cid was such an imposing figure, even dead, he was able to scare an opposing army.
You should consider doing a video on Button Gwinnett.
Would love a video on Albert I, Soldier king of Belgium. Love the vuds
I feel like his name outweighs his deeds. I know the names of about 3 pirates and he’s one of them. But he had a pretty unremarkable career.
They all did when you get right down to it. Even Blackbeard was broke before he was captured, and as Simon has covered in the past, there is no evidence that any pirate ever buried treasure anywhere.
08:20 Did Simon really just throw "Romulan" into the list of targets? Taking on a Warbird seems a little nuts.
interestingly enough, the earliest pirates were renegade Catholic mariners mostly from Portugal, Spain & France.
the English / British joined the party much later, yet they've done the best job at monopolizing and commercializing their pirate stories over everyone else.
Captain kidd.. one piece
William Westmoreland the Vietnam War general please!
I’d love it one day for you to do Mackenzie King: the Canadian PM during ww2
Ah. A squarespace ad. Never heard of them before
Please! Please! Please! Do a episode of biographics on ALCIBIADES!!!!
idk how Cap'n Whistler managed to say seamen and keep a straight face
Could we get some content on one of the chess greats maybe? Such as Morphy or Capablanca.
Chess player here obviously 🤣
I think a bio Charles Trevelyean would make a great video. A hated figure who was a civil servant made famous or infamous by the songs Fields of Athenry
In a world without gold, we might have been heroes!
Once you raise the black you can't go back.
What a clever piece of writing!
You guys should do a claus von stauffenberg and luwig beck video
You should cover Maximinus Thrax, the barbarian emperor . The giant of Germany
very nice video can you do one about agustin de iturbide, emperor of mexico
what was the name of the video where a man was going around the us in the mid 1920-1940s ish killing mostly men and giving the wintesses who were in the car with the victim notes, the witness was usually a mistress of the husband. any help would be awesome
I don't know how a pirate could catch a Romulan ship. They would just use their cloaking device.
I'd query how you said Greenock at the start
Let's prevent scurvy, have an orange🍊🍊🍊
That picture they keep showing is not how William Kidd looked like
He was good in Black Sails
Can you do a video for Alcibiades!
Can you imagine the mutual fart smelling that happened on a pirate ship
Dudes end sounds like a verse from dumb ways to die.
Fantastic
The irony being that he had it all only to throw it all away. What an idiot!
Will you please do one of these on John Adams?
please make a video on constantine the great
The Philips gang committed the last great American train robbery. I'm descended from them and my grandpa can talk about it a little bit.
can you please do the butcher of plaszow from WWII
So why didn't they go after those Romulan ships?
Turns out the romulans were cloaked so they never found them :(
Do a Biographics about Kazuki Takahashi. The creator of Yu-Gi-Oh.
Ceaușescu when?
