The only issue about the retrofit is the tool change sequence. Im not sure how to get the turret to not overshoot its next tool position. I think i can use the Gray code for linux cnc to keep it from overshooting with a hall sensor. The cam gear used to sense the tool is very odd so I might fit an 8 tooth sprocket and sense it that way.
@@TheFeralEngineer haha that’s what I’m going to tell people what it stands for. I get asked that and I had no answer till now. I read they keep good tolerances so it was a cheap price and I picked it up.
@@idus oh, don't get me wrong, they're absolute beasts, but they weren't available with very many options. Rudimentary C axis, no Y, no sub, just tailstock or non tailstock versions. The CL250/253 was an animal, though
@@TheFeralEngineer if I can ask for one thing added on this lathe it would be the live tooling. It was either harbor freight mini lathe or the cl. I hope I chose right. Your tutorials on classic ladder and Hal are my winter semester right now by the way. Great videos. Worth their bytes in gold.
Nice! I just had a SL-1A dropped off at my shop. Haven't powered it up yet, but thinking about retrofits.

I'll be watching this sometime this week. 2am isn't the best time for it, but I'm gonna watch every second.
Wow super awesome. I need to update.
@@idus we used to joke and say CL stood for "cheap lathe" because then you had the SL (standard lathe) and then came the NL (new lathe) 😂
