  • Since the orchestra direction on Roy Rogers & Dale Evans' 1962 variety hour television show was by Ralph Carmichael, it was natural for Roy to sing this Nat King Cole hit on the show; Carmichael was also the show's musical director.

I haven't seen or heard Roy Rodgers since was a kid of 7-10 50-odd years ago.
I was surprised to find out in this clip that he had a fine singing voice- powerful, mellifluous and with a good range, and a relaxed stage presence.
His misfortune, I suppose, was to peak around the hey-day of rock'n'roll.
When I saw this in a side bar I thought " He's murder this Nat King Cole classic."
    Guess I was plenty wrong!

Clint Black's Daddy? Just kidding. Roy had such a great presence and a strong voice, he would be a star in any era. Happy Trails, Roy and Dale.

50 years ago. Hard to believe.
