Since the 1920's four generations of my family (and I'm sure a lot of other families) have enjoyed the rides at Salisbury Beach. For me it was the 60's & 70's with great memories of the rides at Shaheen's Fun O Rama, especially the Himalaya. For my kids and others growing up in the 80's and early 90's Pirates Park was what they remember as the Himalaya and other rides were relocated there before sadly disappearing forever, or so it seems. - Кино
That voice is iconic!! I remember him when i was a kid back in the late 70's!
I miss this ride at Salisbury!!!
Bob was a great friend and enjoyed working along side him on the Himalaya...it was such a blast to work there as a teenager and so many fond memories. I still break out the voice every once in a while just to get a few laughs out of folks. So many after parties at his place at the end of cable ave and hampton beach
Very vood friend and fellow dj....miss him
Thanks for posting. Yes, I don't think we'll ever see the rides and games return. But I'm thankful for the businesses that have remained through the bad times and it's encouraging to see the new restaurants and clubs that have opened in the last few years. I hope it continues.
The voice of my dear late friend, Bob Salter
it was amazing to here the DJ's voice again. I remember every morning having to run out to play the game that you could win CIGERETTES!!!! Pick a color get it right and win 2 packs for my mom! It was right across from the sausage guy that had missing fingers...rememba???
Lmao sausage guy with missing fingers 😂
I loved that ride at Salisbury beach in Massachusetts used to go there in the summer with my family
That sausage guy Ryan I believe his name was "Uncle Eddie's"...my paternal grandparents rented a beach house in Seabrook every August from 1974-1999, I was born in 1981 and this video and other Salisbury video's bring a tear to my eye for my youth and what has happened to the beach over the past decade or so...the yuppies killed an icon of MA and our childhoods, seeing Midway Acade, the Frolics tower, Carefree Arcade, the Pavillion etc all bring back vivid memories that I can see with my eyes
My favorite
Remember The Hustle disco playing!!!
I remember Bob...OMG, those were the days!
It's funny: I work at Canobie part time as a second job every summer and the major noticeable difference: Trees and shade. I guess we all thought nothing of baking on the open beach back then.
I live in Salisbury, about a mile from the beach. I've lived here for over 12 years. I'm down there all the time and it's nothing but a ghost town down there. A few clubs, the old Joes Playland and Carefree arcades, a couple of bars and thats about it.
Do you want to go real real fast!!!!1965
I also have a song that always reminds me of the Himalaya. It's "Journey To The Center Of The Mind" by the Amboy Dukes from 1968. With all the songs that played while riding the Himalaya I'm sure there are others with songs that remind them of this ride.
Thanks for posting this clip! My family used to vacation at Hampton Beach in the 1970's and we would always go to the amusement park at Salisbury Beach! My strongest memory of this ride is from 1974 when they were playing "Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus! Even when I hear that song today I think of the Himalaya ride!
And now it's time to go real REAL fast!!!! Loved this ride and the Skydiver. Anyone remember the haunted house w/the live people?
Yes’ grew up summers there. I remember all of it. Blizzard of 78!took it all out. I spoke with Shaheen after that and he said the damage was to great to rebuild, but every one including myself, told him it will never be the same without Shaheens.
I had forgotten about that siren on the ride until I saw your video clip! Great memories! Thanks again!
You're right. Unfortunately, it's gone, along with all the other rides. It's changed a lot but some of the same merchants are still there which is great and there are a few new ones
too so hopefully Salisbury Beach is coming back although it doesn't seem like the rides will return.
2 thumbs up ! ! Love it ! I'm a BIG fan of the Reverchon Himalaya and Tyrone May's website .
Glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately there is no night time footage as all the video I took that day was shot during the day time.
Everything would have been still there if the people of salisbury didnt vote for the outsiders to come in and run the town
Thanks for this vid. Great memories! Great ride! Loved hearing siren and DJs voice.
BOB SALTER LIVES!!!!!!!! :)
I rode on this many, times. Thanks for the video!
here we go fastr and faster the other way I yi yi!!!
Charles , They still have it in Ga. . And still travel with it every where they are at .
Looks exactly like the unit that was on Morey's Pier in the early 80s.
When the Himalaya was kick ass!!! Thanks for uploading, mwsvideo! :)
Does anybody know what happened to the Himalaya that was in coney island in the 1990s it was owned by geren amusements
LOVE IT!!!!!! Do you have a night time video of this ride?
Park was dead😂😢
I remember the last song every was I don't like Mondays from the Boomtown Rats.
Loved it thx
the best ride !!!
Pirates Park...WHERE?
When the old wooden roller coaster was torn down in the 70s that created a large open lot. This lot later became Pirates Fun Park where rides and a small metal Jet Star roller coaster were erected. When the Shaheen's Fun-O-Rama lot closed and was converted into a parking lot the Himalaya ride was relocated to this area. The area now has been converted into a condo complex.
Did the DJ used to say "Hang on tight because we're going backwards" or something along those lines? I have memories of being on one of these rides near Salisbury Beach when I was very young and I've been trying to find footage and pictures from this unknown park I was in. I remember riding the Ferris wheel and there being some sort of indoor/dark ride next to it.@@RG-ln4yy
what song is this ?
The song playing from the Himalaya is "Come Go With Me" by Expose'
That ride would have been cooler if they played music from Pesrl Jam or Nirvana on it!
