Great questions! In general, open areas or the edge of open areas are preferred by barn owls. The information from Barn Owl Box Co. under ‘placement’ has lots of great tips: www.barnowlbox.com/installation/
Found this video as I struggle modifying a rabbit hutch into an owl box with camera and solar power....yes my owls will have wifi...LOL I really hate ladders and was wondering if you could assemble the box first and then put the pipes together?? Great video. I think I'll order a real owl box as well
That's exciting that you're creating your own solar-powered wifi equipped owl box! We're still waiting for our first residents and now I'm wondering if the owls are just holding out for wifi. 🙂. You could assemble this pole mounted box on the ground and then hoist it up and drop the pole down in the lower section. You'd probably want at least one other person helping though as the box and pole together are just heavy enough that it would be challenging to lift it and hold it upright solo. If you end up installing one this way let us know how it goes!
@@WildHomesteadLiving thank you, I will! I was lucky enough to have a family of 5 this Spring on my porch over my front door. I had cameras everywhere! It was amazing!
That is awesome. I hope to see an owl up there someday.
Thanks, we hope to see that too!

Sound ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ warning ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
Turn down headphones once the pole comes out. 🤣
Oh! Thanks for the warning! When we made this video we didn’t have great video editing headphones 😝
How do you choose the location to put the box? Some spots are probably better than others. What to look for or avoid?

I was wondering the same thing, seems easier to assemble box to pole on the ground
@@robynfewster5821 it worked great, just need a tall strong person to help
Any success?
Not yet! We got it up a little late last year, and it’s still a bit early in the season for our area. Help us keep all the fingers crossed!!!
That would be much better fastened to a tree
