  • A recent meeting of MCAs from the Mt. Kenya region showed a divide over the endorsement of Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki as the region's political leader. Some MCAs, led by Kariara MCA Jeremiah Gichobe, rejected the move, claiming they were misled into thinking the meeting was about their welfare, only to find out it was aimed at pushing Kindiki’s endorsement. Gichobe and other dissenters, like Baragwi MCA David Mathenge, felt the MCAs should not be coerced or blackmailed into supporting any political figure.
However, other leaders like Kirinyaga Deputy Speaker Jenaro Njamumo supported Kindiki’s endorsement, stating that the region needs a strong leader to improve its political standing. The split reflects a broader debate on who should represent the region's interests-between Kindiki and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
