Helmets add weight and probably carry an aerodynamic penalty. Yet they are required of all riders for safety. While having flesh ripped off an elbow, thigh, or bum isn't life threatening, why not require all riders to have lightweight padding around those body parts? Wouldn't the very minimal impact on lap times be worth the bloodshed saved?
No, the helmets if they're designed correctly, the improve aerodynamics due to smoothing out the airflow especially towards the back of the head. Heads aren't aero :) The padding not being used is a couple reasons. 1 skin grows back. No big deal. 2 cooling off the athlete. If they had a layer of padding they would overheat which is more dangerous than loosing skin and reduces performance 3 the skin does do over some protection from friction burns So basically skin can grow back and like with any sports there's risks. Not everything has to be 100% safe. Just reasonably safe and I think it is
I will be watching this sport more often. Outstanding conditioning and cycling skill.
Thank you, Minsk!
Round 1: Charlotte vs Kyline and Pauline
Round 2: Alex and Conor vs Elaine and Frank
Round 3: Laura and Tyler vs Arianne
Pauline Mendoza got eliminated?! 😰😨💔
I like this race, what is UCI?
UCI is the governing body of cycling. Union Cyclistes Internationale. They run all 'big' races. Road, track and MTB
