Peter Moffett kills it on this album! The rhythm section on this album is 2nd to none, still holds up
Incredible
Absolutely amazing
Moffet/Robbins, can't beat that!!
RIP JOHN GOVERNMENT ISSUE SAVED ME FROM THE MISERY OF DAILY LIFE ,, HAPPY TIMES MY FRIEND REST IN PEACE
this is pure GOLD for all who listen
Saw them several times in West Virginia the remote out post
@@robertsunday8445 the best
@@robertsunday8445 yeah I've seen them at least 15x including 3x cbgbs
A great man and great front man in this fantastic band
This is one of my favorite Damned albums.
It definitely is lol
Def sounds a bit like Vanian on this lol which I love
I never of thought that, but I totally hear it now!
Haha I use to say this all the time when I was 16 lol I knee Stabb and the band we'd joke about that too.
In what sense to you mean that it is "damned"? Is it going to be destroyed, is that the idea?
Gather on ME!
Listen to Prem Rawat!
I bought this album in 1987 at a store in Georgetown D.C. called Smash. the same year I met Stabb at the Marble Bar in Baltimore. one of the coolest guys ever. R.I.P. John Stabb
yea man
Great memories man. Smash was a badass record store/punk rock shop in Georgetown. The Marble Bar in Baltimore was a one of kind underground music venue just down the street from The Loft. My band played the Marble. What a scene. The glory days of the hardcore scene. R.I.P. John Stabb
Smash still exists albeit in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of DC. Still a great shop.
I was there too
@@xskillsx5828 nice!! I had no idea they were even still around. Do you remember Commader Salamander? The Wax Museum, PosersTraxx Insane days in and around Georgetown.
What a record. What a band. RIP John. I can't believe how few people know about this incredible record and this great band. An absolute favourite of mine.
Literally the perfect album in my humble opinion. I simply cannot fault this release.
Government Issue's shows were always pure bliss. Got to see them in the mid 80's a few times. Sad about Stabb. Too early he left us.
Billy Brent Malkus saw cbgbs 85 and 86 Maxwell's 87 I love these guys rip John
It great to see them when they came to So Cal. - cool deal at Sun Valley. - LA County. and other places..just really liked the Sun Valley show
THESE GUYS WERE TRUE INNOVATORS OF THEIR TIME... THESE GUYS REALLY PAVED THE WAY AND INFLUENCED A LOT OF BANDS AND INDIVIDUAL MUSICIANS SINCE THEIR ARRIVAL INTO THE PUNK/HARDCORE SCENE OVER 30 YEARS AGO.. THEY CONSTANTLY TOURED AND PUT OUT NEW MATERIAL ....ALWAYS WORKING AND TRYING NEW THINGS.. AND ALL WHILE THEY WERE EVOLVING INTO SOME VERY SKILLED AND NOTED MUSICIANS!
+trent hall so true i think best DC band without contest
WHY ARE WE YELLING
Great G.I. album, still fresh. Nice production, awesome drumming, cool melodies. Only killers - no fillers. That record was on tape in my car when it came out --- on loop. Streetrockpunk. Good memories. RIP John.
What a damned perfect album. Truthfully, a lot of the music from my youth kind of bores me these days. But not this. Never this. A true classic from start to finish.
What a brilliant LP. I do feel sorry for anyone who hasn't heard it.
yeah i think its my overall lifetime favorite record
Right there with you amigo.
Hopefully they're here and listening now.
Nostalgia is a welcome can of tears. Shake it up and pop the tab. It's messy, yes, but you'll feel so much better after you do. GI gives me that feeling. An indescribable yearning for a past I didn't know I missed. RIP John.
Yesireebob
GI for me is the sound of the end of my teens and beginning of my adulthood because I listened to them pretty nonstop for a couple of years, particularly the last three studio LP's and the "Finale" double live record. Not just them, but it was a rare day that went by without one of their records getting a spin (or more often, the tape I made from the LP's playing on my walkman). It's hard to listen to this music now without being transported back to that time.
One of the best punk rock albums of this or any era- saw them first when I was fucking 15 -bad ass show! Always remember it- my first broken nose fuck peace Love you Stabb
Saw them many times as a teen. This is their best album by far.
It's a classic
John told me this was his favorite as well right before his passing.
Absolute classic! I still have it on vinyl!!!
a few years before John passed...he told me this record was one of his favorite releases. I miss John and his great movie reviews. - he was one cool guy.
Great album!Timeless kick ass stuff, great performance from John Stabb and his crew, live at Amsterdam somewhere in the late 80's!
request other bands like this, i asked the guy who uploaded this album but he doesn't know/answer
My favorite album from 87 til today. Just fucking excellent 👍
GI and Dag Nasty were the best bands that came out of the DC Hardcore scene.
1000% agreed.
Don't forget Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Rites of Spring and Fugazi.
pare it down to the mid 80s and throw in Rites of Spring and I agree. Include the entire decade and there are too many other groups just as good and can't be excluded. It was an amazing scene.
also Marginal Man, Embrace, Gray Matter and Shudder to Think...
Yeah, I loved so much this album. This music is still burning !!
R.I.P John Staab fuck cancer
one of best records ever also saw them live on this tour, killer!
Yea bought this in college in 1987 in Tampa I saw GI many times before in mid 80s at cbgbs but imo this is their best effort
Most of the kids hated the hardcore punk I played Except this album
We're old...it now happens to us as it it did to the... Hippies...wtf.
Exactly
Probably my favorite G.I. record. I was fortunate enough to see them many times back then. There's a great new Documentary on the D.C. Hardcore scene coming out: "Salad Days." Check out the Facebook page- there are a lot of screenings happening, and it's GREAT. Thanks for putting this album up.
Yes, my fave GI LP and YES I'm anxiously awaiting the Salad Days doc!
Just saw it last night here in Athens,Ga. It was very well done with everyone being included in interviews ect, John Stabb was hilarious, they ended it with old footage of the scene with the band 3's song Swann Street, made us all choke up a bit...
AGAIN - When I asked Jay about his experience with working with Peter - he said that the best part of this album was "working with Peter on drums".. now that was back in 92'... Peter is and STILL IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE my fav drummer -- yes I'm aware of buddy, krupa and all the rest! no other punk band had a drummer like this AT THE TIME!!!!!!!....................................... Pete............. you just rock.........................wolfegang/casey
He was a favourite drummer of mine too and I agree 👳 this has to be my favourite g.i album too .
I'm finally going to give the post-Joyride recordings a listen. RIP John
This is better
They were great from 1980 to 1989. Few of their contemporaries have that to brag, but GI totally do. Especially given all the lineup changes.
Peter!!!!! Amazing drums on this album And Crash!!!!! Well, you told me that when you and Robbins got together it was a true force to be reckoned with! Can't wait to hear the new stuff!
Burning Airlines was a terrific group.
r.i.p. john stabb
Rest In Peace John Stabb! This is my favorite album from you guys, I had just posted Where you live the other day on my FB not knowing that you were having major health issues.
I absolutely love this album. I love the early HC material as well of course. But this is a fantastic album.
They were one of the few long-lasting HC bands who grew their style and remained kick ass the entire time. Husker Du almost did it too but Warehouse proved to be a weak link, IMO anyway.
One of my all time favorite LPs!!
Much love John and all. Great band & clarity shining through in this.
you can definitely hear The Damned influence on this
Absolutely. And I'm perfectly fine with that!
@@hulud99 Same here
As a Damned fan
I have to agree
This is a flat out musicians punk band... just pure happy marshmallow stickiness
I keep coming back to this album, especially in the morning! it's like a splash of warm then cold water. Even the Album title Accosts u, making u look inside
production is OFF the chart! the guitar is insanely beautiful!
Thank you so much for putting this up. I knew them very well back in the day and I loved this album back when all the DC scene kids were calling them sellouts for putting it out. You made me feel you again today.
Thanks for putting this up. The shows at the Hung Jury Pub are some of my favorite memories.
Got the jaded eyes, so naive.
Thanks guys, your music got me through life and high school. Great times in DC watching you. RIP
R.I.P. John ...love u forever...-Pudge Butts ♡♡♡♡♡

Yes, thanks for sharing. Came to me on white vinyl. Great to hear.
Got it on white and red
Those drums on "Beyond My Grasp" make me want to slay my enemies.
Stabb was totally interactive with the crowd, sharing the mic & hardcore handshakes! Witty as fuck!
thanks so much for putting this up. Amazing album
Yes it is!
its so great needs to be heard - its ITS own sound and power
not many records have this front to back energy - JOHN rip way too soon
When they came to the UK we all got in the van and went to Stevenage where they were gonna play that night . . Unfortunately there van was in a crash so it never happened .
👳 We were gutted . . Thanks for the music Mr stabb . . G.i was the best
I had a break down in the rain on the way to see naked raygun
SO good to hear this again after almost 40 years after the release. Great band, good times!
"Wishing, too many regrets..."
"Waiting, waiting, slowly creating, waking up to your name..." ("contemplate, the public space.") "(Nothing matters but except for today"),("Chances r all thinking of you, when promises sink through ") ((again)): "Waiting waiting slowly creating, nothing matters except for TODAY "....
lyrics (some) to "Public Stage",

I bought this album when it first came out.. it was as awesome then as it is now..

Brilliant………
Best
Rad tour that summer
before Fugazi debuted
i might be to late for say this , but i found out jhon died , just a few seconds ago r.i.p.
Great underrated album
Always loved the sitar solo in Wishing. How many punk songs can you list that have a sitar solo?!?!
Dunno, prob something by 7 Seconds. LOL
John Reeves maybe a Shelter song who knows haha! Good call!
Also some cool hammond organ tunes on this album. Very unusual and cool.
@@mistertommy lol
And even the cover...
"Public Stage" almost sounds like a Damned song, especially the harmonized bridge
sure has a damned feel
Realized I hadn't listened to GI in a while. I went looking for my Government Issue albums on my computer and found them all missing. Thanks for uploading this. Soundtrack to my first year of college.
Martin Axe same here
Yessss
"Man, in a traaap"
mi album favorito de government issue. post hardcore melodico
My father just died. Nowww, I'm finding out on "you tube" that a good and verrrrrrry important friend has passed away??? My whole HEART is BROKEN. Somebody pllllease explain this to me. Life is TOO SHORT... Please, I am a very private person with myself and my small family. Could a "Frank Barlow"contact me.... ,or... a j. Robbins??? I would just like a small message, please..... LUV, JYO. In San Diego
jennifer young , I’m so sorry you found out in this way about John’s passing. How shocking for you and just awful to coincide with the death of your father.
I’m not “Rev” Frank (who’s in Michigan these days), nor J. (who’s still making music in Balto, even touring anew w/ Jawbox), but I was John’s first wife & hope it’s OK that I’m responding to your plea here, though a couple years after you wrote it.
Today I’m listening to YOU b/c yesterday was John’s b-day (7.12) so he’s especially on my mindheart. For awhile after he died I didn’t actually want to hear his music since it failed to capture/convey the more intimate memories I had of us. But, as time goes on, I find that now I can enjoy listening back to his works, and I rejoice that he left so much art for people to continue to celebrate. His spirit rocks on, and it’s gorgeous to see that folks still feel him!
He & I remained close, and as I’m sure you know, one of his most special qualities was his no-holds-barred ability to Love those who touched his life. You were one of those people. Even if you hadn’t communicated for awhile, I hope you realize that, once in his heart, you never left it.
May you carry forward not the pain of loss, but the Joy of having shared a unique bond w/ John. 💜
My condolences
Not hardcore. Hardcore Rock & Roll! That's all that matters.
Nirvana took notes from this classic. proto grunge
Of course. The drummer, a guy named Dave Grohl I think, was in Scream before Nirvana. When I saw John's band Stabb in Hollywood, The Stahl brothers were in the audience I think. What name dropping?
@@wickedstranger1 yea true Scream was underrated as well
@@wickedstranger1 yeah
From this DC son to you \m/ \m/
!!!!!
When I first got this tape in '88 or '89 or whatever, I thought it totally sucked. Maybe because I wanted to hear hardcore. But I guess listening to it now it's ok.
Bauhaus plays DC harDCore
Is it true that this album is about John Stabb having a relationship with a minor? Or is it just a hoax?
post hardcore/melodic hardcore
Hope you don't lock yourself in one of those boxes
@@hulud99 believe me lately i've been listening to a lot of music i'm missing the new releases;
if you think you know similar bands from the 80s or 90s please mention them, regards
Pretty sure dave ghrol got his style from this drummer
He did

So, this album is about how Stabb was a pedo? That’s weird
A SJ - “Hansgen and Saley subsequently left and were replaced by J. Robbins and Peter Moffett, respectively, and Government Issue moved to Giant Records for 1987's You, an album which chronicled Stabb's relationship with an underage girl.”
Thats what young loves all about
Get lost
