Your projects are amazing Jehu. I'm helping a mate in South Africa get his running and reliable. We're working on a bay window double cab that is a little rough around the edges. We cooked our Netgain Warp 9 by mistake...
I want to do this to my future split window bus. I’m hoping the costs come down a bit in the next few years. That cup holder is 🔥. I suppose I should focus on just getting a bus first. Haha
That setup from ev west seems really nice, and it's pretty well priced for if you try and buy similar parts separately. It's my dream to ev swap a bug with their kit 😍
Just started the restoration on a 1978 Westy Bus (vids on my channel). I like the EV West kit, but am thinking I will go with the Netgain Hyper9 setup instead of the HPEVS/Curtis kit. Didn't even think about putting the batteries under the cargo floor. Very cool conversion!
Good looking bus Jehu! Funny: option to fly through the front window and land on the hood of the car in front... hey, that’s MUCH better than attempting to connect head with glass. But anyway! You have seatbelts and plenty caution and driving skill... be interesting if side/front air bag options might be available as a retrofit, and how to make that look aesthetically pleasing in such a minimalist rig. I love your work buddy
I really enjoy the amount of work that you've had done to your van, I was wondering whether you are able to shift gears on it or if the shifter is just decorative?
I like how you discuss the "safety features" the safari windows are for when you crash you can now go through this hole and land safely on the ground. ha ha. great funny stuff!
Amazing work man, love the bus, well done. @12:47 the sub frame is cut in 2 places , is this no longer necessary for structural rigidity ? is it replaced with that black beam?
To give your viewers a perspective of electric conversion vs a new gas engine, I built a new engine for my '67 12-volt 11-window bus from the ground up back in 2010 at a cost of $12,000. That is a brand new 2027cc (90.5mm x 78.8mm) engine with dual Weber carbs and a rebuilt and strengthened transaxle. The 2027cc build was necessary to provide enough power to drive the bus on a modern freeway. Today, it would cost much more and it would be tough to find a qualified engine builder in many areas of the US. Going electric is definitely the way to go these days.
I really like the movement forward idea of converting classic vehicles from ICE to EVs My question, regarding retaining that classic quality is, Is it possible to fit a subwoofer system attached to the power system to recreate the noise of the engine? That's a digitally recorded replica of whatever classic vehicle is being converted? Or would that not be possible? Thanks
Hey buddy can you show us how to make a simple a jump start pack for a car keep it simple a BEC so I can charge it with a regular 12v car charger and nothing else extra other then maybe a 5v usb port or maybe a 12v cig lighter plug.
I prefer the Stanley FatMax 750 with onboard air compressor, light, and a crazy powerful USB charger. You can charge it from a cig lighter. I upgraded mine with a larger 18ah battery and a 2000watt inverter strapped on the side, but even stock it's an amazing thing for the truck and camping also.
(🤔 video: 13:58/16:39) Do you notice any issues on your front driving suspension or the structure weakening? Cutting that metal looks like it has weakened the front/structure of VW 1967 bus. It looks a bit unsafe.
Do I spot EMW as the brand of the battery gauge software on the tablet? The company that did BMW EV conversions in CA? :) I started working with Val just after they switched to eMotorWerks
@@jehugarcia Is that software generally available somewhere online, or did you get it some time ago and are still using it? Awesome job as I'm sure you get all the time :)
@@Demdere ~ I used archive.org to pull it off the old EMW website, when I needed it last. It's for that EMW Dashboard thingie. God help you if you need configuration instructions, though. lol. Something about holding the button, and watching the options through the app while you configure it using the button.
I have an old bus and am gathering quotes to get it converted. Running into an issue when I try to determine how much the converted bus will be be worth. Are you aware of a good place to look for this data?
Can you keep the pack in the luggage compartment, in addition to the gas tank area batteries and get around 200 miles range or do you think that would that be too much weight on the rear suspension?
Hi, nice functional conversion. I am looking at building a large battery for a mobile project (a boat) and have begun playing with batteries. I won't be able to use your power wall design, I am looking at spot welding the cells. I have bought batteries and parts and have been experimenting with them. I have placed some spacer designs for 3d printers over on thingiverse should anyone be able to use them. I will be adding to those as time goes on.
This is a really nice build Jehu! Experiencing a video of a VW bus but not hearing the "tweedle" of the engine is still a bit weird to me :) Will you be installing regenerative braking in your vehicles?
Jehu please take a look into android auto it might be a better system to run on your tablet for watching everything in the bus also to have a radio via the tablet
hey J. I am just getting parts together for my Early Bay 1970 VW conversion. I figured i'd go with a Tesla SDU rear motor (direct drive) and long range battery and have been offered a Model X charger. Do you know if all Tesla models' parts are compatible ? Thanks for inspiring me mate
@@jehugarcia oh wow, thankyou for the reply mate. You seem like one of the guys that is in this because you love it, people like me, well we have to start learning somewhere. All the best, John
Well done! I’m a Model 3 owner. Watching your vids, I’m much interested in a classic conversion! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jehu! - The real value of this idea is that you end up with a very useful and now reliable vehicle. Cheers!
You might want to try out airless wheels or plastic wheels soon.
Congrats. on the completion of the build. Great job on making the 7 pt. restraint system invisible.Happy motoring.

Great video
Love the new splitscreen
I love the view from underneath
Would look cool if the motor had a clear case so you could see the motor working
Awesome footage and cinematic!
Thank you jehu.

About 15 K
What is The Range on That thing ??

Hey man, bumping is what the bumper is for! 11:00
Congratulations on a really cool build!
there are a few videos out there on modding classic car radios with Bluetooth if you into it.
Your fur babies are adorable sir... oh, and the bus is epic!

Yes, absolutely, I shift from 2nd to 3rd around town

well he installed disc brakes, so chances he'll run into another car from behind are low=)

What gear does it run in?
What motor are you using?

About $12k-$15k in parts + labor

I should make my 47 ford jail bar electric
How many hours?
Not sure but I worked on it for 10 weeks straight at least 5hours a day
