When rotating a propeller, it's safest to rotate it in the opposite direction of normal operation. If a magneto becomes ungrounded, the impulse coupler could cause the engine to turn over.
Dude, casually flying 100 miles to have dinner with your mahhhhh is a big flex lol. Hope the starter repair doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
120 miles 😏
Starters that style are known for breaking like this due to the loads put on them when starting. Tooth most likely broke when the front bearing/bushing housing failed.
That oil cooler could use some attention - the fins look blocked. I use a fine blade to open them back up then use a degreaser to clean and a strong vacuum.. Of course get the AP to make suggestions first. I think there is a larger oil cooler available but again - if your temps are all in line no issue!
I hate auto mechanics! But I love knowing more about my plane so this is a great video. At the end of the day I am going to let my mechanic do that type of work. I will change the oil and filter IF I can't get a mechanic to do it.😁 I would have that oil cooler moved. Laser has the parts.
This is why airplane mechanics are the best!
Luck is on your side, so happy you had this happen before going up. Looks very expensive, but you are learning so much from this. How fortunate you are able to work on your plane without the hassle of people making you move it to a spot designated for repairs.
I don't think it would have been a problem in flight, I think it would have rattled and sounded awful and hopefully that would have been it. In this situation he's lucky that it didn't happen when they flew to Myrtle beach, that would have sucked.
big fan tom i am 10
keep going bro
Dang dang it and bummer.
When I purchased my C172 7 years ago, I got educated on mechanics and hangars. It appears you have a good mechanic to work with you on this.
Thanks for doing all the video work and sharing.
Keep us updated.
That weather is insane :) You stole our summer. We have a couple weeks of low level snow here in Australia.
Excellent video!! Thanks for sharing... I love your videos, informative, fun, and so well edited! very creative.. thank you
Yes... the thong fuel tank. The long hair into man bun shot. The og tom is back on the paramotor 😊
Love singled handed maintenance on mine, always a challenge. What I wouldn’t give for your weather right now!
I did some skydiving at that airport and yes it can be sketchy on windy days!
I just got into Paramotor and Live in Summerville so maybe one day I will see you at one of these airports around here!
Blue skies bro!
The suck is strong in this video. May The Force be with you as you fight with the Mooney Demon, cram 6 pounds of ---- in a 5 pound box.
I have been without a plane for 3 months getting new avionics installed, I can now get lost in style. They have 1 thing to do, there is a computer issue, parts have been shipped….
Dude last weekend did you fly at like 2 Pm ? I would have bet a lot of money. That I seen your plane over my house. Thanks for sharing the videos. Love every thing about flying. Maybe one day I can shake your hand. Keep the videos rolling. God Bless.
I always wanted a Mooney but everyone that I know who has owned one always had to repair something.
Dang man that's a bummer I have to imagine it's extra fun doing that work with a torn bicep.
Dang, that looks like a pain to take apart. Thanks for filming it though, hope you get your bird in the air soon! You are pretty close to where I’m located (KLZU) would love to meet up for lunch somewhere? Are you planning on going to Sun'N'Fun?
I have read that the Mooney has one of the tightest engine bays out there and now I understand what they mean. I should have went to school to be a airplane mechanic, they are the equivalent to heart surgeons in the private pilot world.
Dang bro that sux!! And fresh out of annual... It just reminds me why my instructor told me to keep a 10% value savings account just for the plane. Sorry to hear about your torn wallet, I mean bicep... 😉🍻
