    Dear Terence, I rarely comment on anybody's video on RUclips but knowing that its my responsibility to protect the Indian Classical art I am writing this to you below this video. This video is the most ridiculous thing on internet on Indian Classical. I had told you a couple of years back to please delete it. The mudras are all wrong and you don't know what Shringar Rasa is. So please stop it and be wise enough to delete it. I received this video link in a Kathak group and it has angered classical dancers teachers Even a first year student of kathak and Bharatnatyam can tell that this is misleading n incorrect... . People have started reporting this video. This is for your own good. You have worked hard to be wherever you are today why you want to become a laughing stock. The poor knowledge of dance (theory and practical) is a bad thing for you especially when you sit on a responsible seat and judge others. But if you want to continue to be funny and ridiculous then its your choice. To make is even funnier you have added two girls in the video giving demo. God knows what are they trying to demonstrate. If not for yourself at least for those two girls, please remove it. This video is making the three of you look like clowns... :) Go and learn Kathak or Bharatnatyam, nothing wrong in that after all your first love is dance, right?

      @@sanikabiyani1025 All the mudras he mentioned are correct and even the adavu he mentioned technically exists in Bharatanatyam. However, this video in no way can be considered as a basic guide to "Indian Classical Dance" which is so much more than a couple of mudras and one adavu from one classical dance form. The Sringara rasa he mentioned is not just a girl wearing ornaments while holding up a mirror. This is just "A Basic Guide to what Bollywood thinks Indian Classical Dance is"

    I feel astounded that how he gathered the confidence and conviction to publish this video. The starting phrase " Common man's guide to Indian classical dance" is itself a misnomer. I am sure he himself knows that he does not have any knowledge of any of the Indian classical neither folk forms. But, he knew, he will get viewership and few "ignorant" dance enthusiast would find it "great", "helpful" to learn "Indian classical dance" . One piece of recommendation to all those people who regret that they did not learn any Indian dance , please choose any one Classical dance form and seek the guidance of a Teacher ( provided he or she has reputation to be genuine) to learn it step by step. These art forms cannot be learnt by a video guide like this. It is foolishness to learn something without knowing its true essence and correctness.

    This reminds me of those funny videos of rural village school teachers teaching incorrect English pronunciations to students. Mr Terence Lewis needs to be given an insight on the number of years, sweat, pain, dedication and sacrifices we classical dancers make to imbibe our craft within our body and soul before we actually go out to perform and teach. This is no where close to the basics of Indian classical dance....Not even 0.5%

    With all due respect, you say Indian Classical Dance. There are 8 of them. And these mudras although are common in most, listing them under the broad umbrella of classical dance is absolutely wrong. Same is with basic adavus, leg movements, etc etc etc. Each dance style has its own literature where technique is concerned.
    I am learning Bharatnatyam for 17 years now, but i still cannot say that i can make a guide. It takes many many years of intense and disciplined training.
    You are a master at what you do. And i love your work. But i really think this video is guiding people properly. Classical dance is a broad term and such videos will further mislead our audiences, a large part of it have no idea about classical dance anyway.

It would be better to invite external teachers specializing in these dance forms as part of your informational videos. For all the viewers interested in learning any form of Indian classical dance, it is best to join a guru or a reputable academy. PS- It takes atleast 10 years to even get a basic grasp over an Indian classical dance. And that is only the beginning of a journey to a life full of hardwork and learning...

Basically someone who will think classical is quite Easy just a tutorial video of 4 minutes. I am not against people trying to learn Bharatanatyam but teaching is different. In this video we can clearly see your lack of knowledge in Bharatanatyam, please do not teach something that you don't understand and don't know, I am sure you are very talented, if you are interested in learning Bharatanatyam, find a good guru and learn. What you showed on this video is not basic steps at all and it was very badly executed. I am not commenting to hurt you but just humbly requesting you to not share something that is not bharatanatyam saying it is bharatanatyam..

    Stop misleading people ..please use your stardom for educating people by hiring educated people who have an in depth knowledge about Bharatnatyam and Kathak.
    Its okay to not know everything in a proper way. It's important to part correct knowledge and not mislead.

    It's pathetic, I really don't know what to tell. Please go and learn. Classical dance can not be learnt seeing videos, it needs Sadhana.. I really don't expect it from a person like you who knows a different art form from the core then how can you mislead Classical dance like this way!!

    No...Im Brazilian and love dancing but never would be the chance to learn Indian classical dance without Bollywood, internet or RUclips videos. Thanks for your videos...I have being looking for videos to learn the mudras for a long time...By the way we do same gesture of the mirror in a dance we have here that its influence came from Africa. The big difference here it became more intuitive dance and has changed with time gaining new steps.

      @@prakashkumar6279 why should I feel bad? 🙂 I will tell you what I heard in person from Ariano Suassuna, a Brazilian writer. He said about classic and popular, "What is classic today maybe was popular once". So, in fact what matters is the joy. Same I can tell you about Carlos Heitor Villa Lobos, who became famous in a traditional classic music world by composing classic music inspired by our popular Brazilian culture. Who told you...what is classic and what is popular by definition, can't in fact feel the magic. Have a great day ahead! 🙏

    • @PLPereira
      @PLPereira 4 года назад

      @@LekhaAchuthwhy you all are like that? Whatever he has shown is beautiful. Why don't you come and dance here better than him. Why is so hard for you indians trying to appreciate beauty if it is a bit different of a traditional way? What is the problem with that? I don't see any problem. Put the dance inside a box and keep it forever in the same way...but it has to be forever. How long does forever can last? Thank you very much and have a nice day. I really appreciated the work of the man dancing in the video and whatever he has done is much better than the ones only criticizing. Ignorant people really can't appreciate nor classical nor popular nor different.

    • @LekhaAchuth
      @LekhaAchuth 4 года назад

      @@PLPereira When he calls it a Indian classical dance he needs to be sure of what he is doing. I know he is a very good contemproray dancer. He can not tell that it is a common man's guide to Indian classical dance. We have many wannabe dancers who will listen and see such things and tell that thet are bharatanatya or kathak dancers. Bharatanatya has evolved from so many years. When some one shows something bad and calls it a different name we have to comment and show the ignorance of that person. Please do not generalize Indians. I am also a classical bharatanatya dancer who has been practicing from many years. I know to appreciate the good things. But this is a riduculous attempt to show an "Indian Classical Dance". You may not have a problem with it but I have since he does not even know his mudras. What he shows as "ARAL" is actually "Hamsasya" and his aramandi is atrocious. His generalization of the Shringar rasa is so typical Bollywood.

    Sir I am an ardent admirer of your art and skills in contemporary and bollywood forms and the way you train up young dancers in this forms are praiseworthy.. also on the other hand, I have been learning and performing Bharatnatyam for the last 19 years and Odissi for the last 2 years so I know the extreme dedication and practice a dancer has to go through to atleast call himself/herself as a classical dancer, forget about teaching...this is not the way how beginners should start to learn any classical dance form (there are 8 classical dances in India)... classical dance follows grammar and it has to be learnt following the grammar...so I would request you to refrain from teaching this way...🙏
