Great album, and another great review. I love Yusef Lateef, very under the radar.

Thanks. He certainly is. Such an inquisitive, unique musician.

@@TenMinuteRecordReviews Yes, as a musician myself (a saxophonist), I came across Lateef many years ago. I've always listened to his playing - and studied some of his book "Repository of Scales and Patterns" - it's only in more recent years that I've realised his true genius.
There's a couple of videos here on YT that show him live, that are amazing where he really stretches out. However, unfortunately in this day and age there seems to be a 'too many chiefs and not enough indians' type of thing, with many young musicians being more impressed by finger dexterity or their own personal greatness, rather than true spiritually (especially in jazz).

Beautiful review, my favorite of his! Blessed to see him live and thank him for a lifetime of oboe inspiration with "Love Theme From Spartacus". I did an oboe tribute to his on my FOCUS album, SPARTACUS. It's one of my favorites. (2009 Molin Music) Your videos are so well done! Thank you! ❤

Lex Humphries work on those Donald Byrd albums are always inspiring, he shows up on some great sessions, not suprisingly, even one of my fav Mccoys that Nights of Ballads & Blues. Nice Review again.

I have recently purchases this album after a recent reissue by Craft Recordings. It sounds sublime and it has always been on my want list since i heard Plum Blossom and LTFS. If you haven't heard Yusef Lateef's 'Detroit Latitude 42.30 Longitude 83', on ARC, it's definitely worth a liaten. It has a gritty sound and leans more towards funk than spiritual jazz.

I've more than once dithered over that album, and each time bought something else instead. Thanks for the recommendation - I'll look out for it.

Very glad that you cover this album. Has always been one of my favorites. Super unique. If I can make a request for another very unique and one-of-a-kind. I would love for you to do a treatment on Van Morrison Astral Weeks..
