Great Guide. I would add that you can zoom in and out on the hunting scope using the mouse wheel on PC. And on the ATOG you can zoom out with mouse wheel to use your iron sights. Keep up the good work!

this is such an amazing explanation about scopes and ranging. one of the problems I'm not understanding is the ranging for the PSO-1-1 scope @ 4:28 for example. the slanted line is longer on some points, like 2 and 3 for example, than the others which doesn't make sense because the person would be smaller the further away they are.....?
I think with that scope you are trying to fit the whole body in it, from the Sloped line on top, to the straight line on the bottom. Not just try to measure the shoulders. I'll admit I don't know the actual IRL way to use these scopes, but that method seems to work for me.

Good question, since you said trader I can see you are on a modded server. They may have their own modded weapons, but generally as far as scopes and weapons from Vanilla/base game, I'd say your standard M4A1 with a Combat Scope is my jam. Alternatively the LAR is often considered the best gun in the game by many. The ammo it takes, .308 WIN absolutely shreds, and it's great both close and long range. Toss a Combat or ACOG on it. I'd just recommend trying out most of the weapons though, the AK's are great too.

That's tricky, I tried googling the scope/mod you for NF ATACR. From what I can see, it looks like it goes 1 - 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 (which is in insane distance.) I think each line between 1 - 10 is another 200 meters. So if you aimed with the first bottom line thats about 200 meter shot. Hard to say how to really gauge distance accurately without testing. And I could be completely wrong on the ranging.

Why is the red dot zeroed for 200m if it's meant for close range? I like to aim for the head, especially for zombies. Same goes for the iron sights on the ACOG.
Hmm there are a few ways you could approach that... I personally would just stick with 100m and aim up a bit, like put the dot pm the top of their head or a tiny bit above it. Likely if you miss a headshot at that distance it will hit their chest.

I dont mean adjusting the number of meters I meant when you see an enemy and you count the knotches on the crosshair to determine how tall / how far he is do you do that with the scope zoomed all the way in or out?@@Nitno
@@Nitno it's not a bug, I mean you can fix some action by double clicking some keys, you can toggle walking by double clicking ctrl for example. and the same goes for the aiming with the scope, you can fix it so you woudn't need to hold the key, I hit some key by accident, by I don't know which one
Forget about ranging below 300m the line is practically flat and if you zero your Mosin at 300m you are gonna hit anyone below that distance as well. Also forgot to mention chevrons on PSO-1 where gun is zeroed to 1000m each chevron adds another 100m giving you option to aim at targets at 1300m with last chevron but considering you wont need to use it its razher curiosity than practical trick. Last practical part is that RSVN and combat sights do not get blinded by sun glare like baraka sights which is why the red dot is in the tube and why it is important to mention.

It would miss because Zeroing is basically giving it an arc upward. There is bullet drop in this game. I'll be over simplifying here... so say you shoot straight Zeroed at 100m it will drop off around 100m and hit the ground. If you shoot straight Zeroed at 1000m it will actually shoot up in the air and drop off around 1000m and hit the ground. So if somone is standing 100m away and you are Zeroed 1000m your bullet may go over their head and land 1000m away.
@@ehrenmann7201 Yep it's just feeling and experience. Playing with the scopes, testing shots and see where they land. Most shots are 100m, a decent snipe is 200m, and when you start going 300m+ the shots you are trying to land is a little dot of a player.

Agreed! Heck the could even balance it by say... use duct tape to attach and have the scope become inaccurate after a shot or 2.
The night vision scope is also really heavy. Keep that in mind

Hmm, I'd suggest trying the rangefinder on a zombie and gauge the height / width at the shoulders.

Yep if you keep it at default 100m. The pointer ^ top should be 100, top of the red line about 200, then you'll see a line for 400, 500, 600 ect.

Why can I only zero my sniper to 300m max? I see RUclipsrs zero there snipers to 600 and even 800.
