Alfred Jordan Can't tell for all of them but the ride looks like a K Custom Special Dry ride with Rivets, and the Crash to his right is a Kerope Crash( Maybe a 18) with what looks like Promark Sizzlers on it.
not to place myself above them in any way; they are remarkably, exceptionally talented, even genius, musicians. We all dance to the tune that corporate money play.
Hi Paul, thanks for your comment. To the points your comment is hinting at: we do not pay any money to artists for their performances. Corporate Money does NOT bring out the best in musicians. What corportate money does, is give artists a platform to perform their art, for everyone to enjoy. Like this video. All the best, Yamaha Drums
With all due respect, because the dude can certainly play his butt off, but I'm a bit put off by Mark. This guy clearly studied every Chris Dave-ism there was, came from out of nowhere, and is now playing with Glasper & Co. Its bizarre that Chris's replacement is a freakin' clone of him. Once again, the guy can REALLY play, but if anyone who heard Chris Dave over the years can honestly tell me that this dude doesn't try to sound EXACTLY like him, then I don't know what to tell you. I'm into artists. We all have influences, but Jesus H. Christ. Mix it up some. Chris Dave style is so distinct that its very hard to claim you aren't his clone when the first time I heard you I literally thought it was Chris. Come on, dude. You can play very, very well. Be your own man.
+Kaizen Supreme First all of this comment shows that you're really not a student of music, especially the two drummers you're talking about. Mark Colenburg in an interview said his first major gig was with Common "Like Water for Chocolate Album" in 2000 produced by JDilla. He didn't come out of nowhere! Also at that time Chris Dave was playing with Mint Condition, totally different genre. Mark in his resume has worked with Chico Freeman, Stefon Harris, Amel Larrieux Q-Tip (Have you heard the Renaissance) Cecil Mcbee and many more. You don't play gigs and record like that sounding "EXACTLY" like someone else. He's never played all snares, and if you LISTEN Mark's concept and sound is totally different from Chris. He works with Robert because he's versatile, can merge genres authentically and he's just good. There is NO respect in your comment just hate & ignorance. Please become a real student, let your pride go, & stop trying to tear down others for no reason!
Hi Kaizen! Thanks for getting in touch. Why is it bizarre, that the live drummer tries to sound like the drummer on the record? This is most probably what the song needs. As Mark played on the new record "Art Science" this may be a good way to discover his individual style. All the best, Yamaha Drums
Why is it so bad to be influenced by your peers? I'd imagine, from what my drumming instructor has told me, who's real good friends with Chris Dave, these guys are friends, not competitors. I don't think it's a competitive nature between the two of them, but more so an influence, and an appreciation for each other. My whole point, if you hang out with people long enough, of course certain things are gonna rub off on you. To say that Mark "stole" Chris's style though is a little uninformed, and kind of rude.
I love the tone of his toms, and how he's playing them so that they breath...
sick. now this is what you call Drum and Bass. the communication is so heavy!
true story
Just talked with Mark last night in StL, after he performed with Keyon Herrold. Super nice. The drumming vocabulary he possesses is one of a kind.
