I have 86k miles on mine now. Change the oil and the transmission fluid and all the fluids on a regular basis. I have a friend with the 4cyl model with over 160k miles on his.
These things are very reliable. My mom’s 2009 Journey SE has over 150k with little to no problems. Is the quality the best? No but for 17k used in 2010 it’s amazing value wise.
I agree. I got mine in 2018 (just over a year ago) as a former rental car. It was 1 year old with about 45k miles on it. I now have about 55k and I love it. No complaints at all. My parents had an 86 Caravan that got 300k miles and my wife has a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country with 90k already and other than brakes, oil changes and an AC recharge which I did today (video coming) it has not an issue. I paid $13k for my Journey, paid $16k for my wife's car a year old both which were half the price of new and 1/3 of a Honda Odyssey or CRV.
any complaints about the 3rd row ? i know you said you can adjust the middle row but doesn't look like theres much room to spare for the middle row passengers? also is the 3rd row far enough from the tailgate to feel safe? thanks for the help
I have 4 little kids all in car seats (8 and younger) 2 summers ago we took it to the beach and it was fine. The middle row does adjust and there is leg room in both back rows. With the 3rd row in use there is enough room to the back window, probably a foot up by the glass and 2 feet by the base. Not a ton of extra room if you have a family of 6, but you could use a roof rack. We mostly travel in my wife's Pacifica, but it's plenty good. Check it out at a dealership. I have 70k miles now and still love it.
I’ve had my Journey 7 years and never figured out those nets they have stored in rear compartment! Guess It might be in owners manual. I have several small baskets back there and they always slide back. Need to figure out how to keep them in place. This was good..thanks.
@@SeanDIY I’ve never had the third seat up. No reason to and it would make rear storage much smaller. I just keep thinking there ought to be a way to use the nets. Maybe manual mentions..I’ll have to check.
I have 4 kids so the 3rd row is essential to me. If it was just me and my wife or 2 kids I'd keep the back seats down also. The cargo room is tiny with the 3rd row up. With it down there is tons of room.
I have a 2014 SXT (which I love!). Right now it’s got all back seats folded flat and is jampacked with camping stuff, so I’m wondering if you or your viewers can answer this: how much do the second row and the third row seats actually recline? Thanks!
The second row reclines close to what the first does. The 3rd row has 2 positions, upright and the slightest amount back. The 3rd row isn't like the second row as the seats aren't like bucket seats.
@@SeanDIY @Sean's DIY & Reviews Oh, right, I keep forgetting the seat is like a bench seat in the third row. Thanks for the info about the recline! ☺️ As a side note, I was disappointed that in the SXT, the front passenger seat doesn't fold flat. know they do in some models, and I really miss that feature from my previous vehicle (Pontiac Vibe). Thanks again!
@@lindasue8719 mine folds flat. You just need to hold up the handle and push it flat. I had the same feature in my 2004 Nissan XTerra. It's definitely cool.
@@SeanDIY I tried again, doesn't work. 😢 It seems to me I read that the SXT doesn't have that. Also, the back of the seat is rounded and fabric so doesn't function as a table top. I wish it did, but more importantly you can't fit very long items in the back (I thought you could - I didn't think to check at time of purchase and much later. It may well have been a deal-breaker if I had). Other than that, it's a fantastic car. I keep thinking of moving to something else, but I have a hard time partying with this one 😃
I think I went back there once and it seemed ok. You can adjust the 2nd row seats forward to get more 3rd row leg room. My kids are in the back with their car seats or boosters (6-9 years old) and it's plenty big for them.
@@SeanDIY yeah, I’m currently debating a Dodge Journey or caravan. The journey looks better but caravan has more room it seems. Do you think that’s accurate?
That's completely accurate. We had the Town & Country which is the same as the Caravan. Those are minivans and much bigger than the Journey which is a small size SUV similar to he RAV 4 and the Honda CRV. If you need a lot of room the Caravan will be your better bet.
I got the V6 Journey. It only gets 1 mpg less than the 4 cyl 2.4 and I heard it has better resale value, so I went with that one. I did test drive the 2.4L and that was nice as well. Mone has about 60,000 mile now and all it needs is some tires.
Sean, do the second row seats slide forward enough to make third row access possible? I would have a child seat in the second row.....both sides......so I could not fold the second row seat down. If, however, it could slide forward enough, kiddos could have access to the third row.
I had car seats in the front seats and the bigger ones would climb over the seat to the back. Now I have boosters in the front and can fold down to access the back more. The second row goes up pretty far but probably not enough to get back without folding.
I am looking at a 2019 Journey and hope I can get the loan to go through. Looks great.
Did you end up getting the Journey?
Thanks for this info. Better than the buyers guide for some questions I had. I'm liking this vehicle.

Getting a 2016 tomorrow, very excited, and even more excited after seeing this!
Glad to hear. Still like mine a lot!
Let me know how you like it once you get it. Any features different etc. Mine didn't have Bluetooth but I put in a ROAV by Anker and it works great.
@@SeanDIY will do! Sadly, think it’s going to have to wait until tomorrow from all this stupid snow... But, better safe than sorry!
@@JustSomeVulp did you get your Journey? How do you like it?
@@SeanDIY just got my 2016 journey 2 days ago. Love it so far.
What about the storage inside the front passenger seat?
It's there, I just don't use it. I put a seat cover on and never access it.

Almost 100k miles now. I'm hoping to get 200k. I just changed the thermostat and had the transmission fluid drained and filled.
Do you have a video of how to take off the back of the front seats to get to the airbag connection, to be able to remove the headrest?
That's pretty specific. I don't believe mine has the airbags in the headrest.

In seven years I’ve never used the third seat even with grandkids. 😄
I need the lock for the Floor back seat storage Compartment
I wish I could say I used them more, but I really don't. Not with 4 like children.
Dont you have storage under the front passenger seat??? Also doesnt the left second row seat go up for child seat???
There is storage under the front passenger seat. I did 2 videos on the car. Almost at 100k miles now.
I'm thinking bout grabbing one I love these
I have about 75k miles now and still good. I replaced tires and brakes. Consistent oil changes and I'm going to replace Trans filter and fluid soon
Yes keep up on it keep it fresh 💯💯💯
Good video. I like the flip flop size comparison, but you should have put the flip flop in the other storage bins as well. More flip flops, please.
That's a great idea.
Can you take out the second row of seating?
I don't think so, but you can fold them flat.
Does the middle seating scoot forward and back?
It does. They also fold for easy access to the 3rd row...at least for kids it's easy. I'm 6'3 so I haven't gotten back there.

Hey in my car the passenger has a storage under neath where they sit and it is locked is there anyway I can open it
Great question. Do you see a lock somewhere?
Its under the butt. Reach between the back and bottom cushion and lift it up

I'm glad I was able to help. That makes sense. I'm surprised the person or dealership you bought the car from didn't tell you.
So cool
I have over 80k miles now and the car is worth more than I paid for it. Definitely go with the 6 cyl. They have higher resale and you sacrifice 1 mpg.

Great. Do they sell the Dodge Journey over there?
I have one and I don’t have a third row
What year is your's? Mine has a 3rd row. Perhaps its folded down in yours? If not you have a huge trunk space.

I think they changed them a bit over the years. Might have been just 2 rows in the earlier years.
