You have saved Christmas. Fitting stereo late night Xmas eve as a surprise in the wife’s car. Knowing it would be a pain because its VW. But didn’t expect it would be this bad. 2 permanent lives and which craft to turn the factory stereo on and off
I should have watched and fully understood your video before buying all these things. I installed everything as I thought it should be and it didn't switch on. Now I find out that the only elegant solution I would be comfortable with would be, to buy an expensive can bus adapter as I don't have the equipment to test the fuses .. Thank you for your informative video!
Very helpful Video 👍🏻 you don’t need to use a plastic tool to get radio cover out I used a thin flat head screw driver got it out with out a scratch just be bloody careful
Brilliant videos thank you. I have just bought a 59 plate VW Polo and want to fit a pioneer dmh-a240bt and want to fit that with an added reversing camera. Will I need anything extra such as a cage or wiring adaptors? Also could you recommend a compatible reversing camera and how you fit that please?
Hello there, thanks for sharing this tutorial, it is brilliant! But I desperately need your help. I have a Volkswagen Polo 5th gen 6R, stock radio. I've bought a Sony DSX-A410BT, and also the cable for the power. All went smooth, but as soon as I plugged the power cable into the new radio, the 10A fuse would burn. I had some spare ones, and I tried switching the cables, as follows: 1 try: red on red, yellow on yellow; fuse burnt. 2 try: red and yellow on yellow, as also stated on the radio manual (if the car has no ACC), there was indeed a built in splitter on the connection of the yellow, so you could easily plug the red one aswell; fuse burnt. 3 try: again with red and yellow on yellow, but I also unplugged the red one on the other side, the one closer to the car; fuse burnt. As of now I plugged again the stock radio and it works, so no faulty components at least until the power cable (and antenna of course). Now, the new Sony radio is brand new, so I'd put that away. Could be de harness adapter at being faulty, what do you think? Or, maybe I did something wrong. I have some pictures to show, if anyone wants to help. It would be very much appreciated; I'm basically desperate.
A few more details. I did every try with the car turned off, the key off the ignition slot and the new Sony radio always plugged. Maybe I shoud've taken the radio off, try to plug the cable and then insert the front? I don't know. Plus, a very important thing: since I live in a city where radio thefts are very common, my plan was to take the front radio off and hide it somewhere in the car, so I wouldn't bother with all the bit about the red cable to the fuse box. Since I'm literally taking the radio off (at least the front), the power drain shouln't occur, am I right? Basically it's always powereb by yellow cable, but since I take the radio off each time I park the car, it shouldn't drain. Hope I have explained myself. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Vw polo 1.2 mk4 2009-10....the ignition fuse is 15 amp slot 37..but the aftermarket single din radio cd bluetooth has a 10 amp fuse already on the back..how will that work now?

I am a little confused. I have the adapters and everything in front of me now and you initially had a red wire running from the canbus adapter to plug which goes into the radio adapters and after skipping ahead it seems like that inital connection is cut completely and you only have the power from the fuse connected now. Is that correct? I have a drawing that basically tells me to have both of those wires connected to the same spot in that connector going to the radio...
@@FiveRustyNails you gotta get a kit to test for current. My adapter has one plug that is always supposed to have current and one that only is turned on with the ignition. My daughter's Polo only has two wires that always are at full current from the VW radio cable, so I spliced off one that turns off from the fuse box. It isn't super hard and there are adapters that you plug in instead of a fuse, plug the fuse into the adapter and have a wire running off of it that you can use for whatever.
Very helpful with the fuses, one question though: My aftermarket radio has a 10A fuse already on the back. So do I still need 2x10A on the fuse-doubler - or is the 10A that I pulled out from the fuse box enough? Or the question the other way round: is too many Amp bad? Will it hinder electricity flow etc.?
Yes,without the second fuse in the fuse-doubler you won't get any power to the new radio. One of the fuses runs the original circuit and the other runs the new radio.

Need a lil help ! I recently changed the head unit and stays live all the time got the same harness and connector but I can’t understand which wire did you cut from joint ? Or you stick all three red wires together Could you help I’m based in Milton Keynes
Your new radios red wire needs to go to a none critical ignition switched live supply in the cars fusebox. When this is done you radio should switch off with the cars ignition.
I am going to use the same harness adapter as yourself (pc2-75-4) . Will I absolutely HAVE to run the red wire into the fuse box? I only ask as I think at that step I'll be in over my head and I thought it would be alot easier to do it by myself. Many thanks, Jake.
Well without running the ignition power from the fuse box you could just connect the red wire to the yellow wire and power the radio constantly. However you will have to manually switch the radio off every single time you switch the engine off. To be clear,if you forget to turn it off and leave it overnight your battery will be flat and the car will not start the next morning.
PJs projects okay sounds like something I can live with. When you say connect the red wire to the yellow wire, is that the adapter you mean and will I have to solder them together? Many thanks

Hey man, so I want to swap mine for a newer one that come in other golfs with touch screen, would the Bluetooth work and the aux or is there something else I would need to do, I just can’t seem to find an aux anywhere with the current one
This could depend on year, spec and country of sale but you would need the Blutooth box, possible dashboard loom if yours is not fully pre wired and to then get the ecu logged so that the cars alarm/immobilizer still works correctly.
When I connect my radio, the steering panel of air conditioning doesn’t have light, and I can’t turn air condition. when I disconnect radio or connect factory radio everything is ok. It is difficult to understand for me because my radio disconnect only light and air condiction in steering panel, but every other functions in this panel works. Does anyone know why?
Your radio is wired to a permanent live, at the back you will have a yellow power wire and a red power wire, currently both are going to constant live but to make it go off with the ignition you need the red wire to go to a switched supply.
PJs projects thanks, what if I don’t have the harness, can I manually wire it, and if I do have the harness, will the after market radio still support steering wheel controls?
Any aftermarket single din radio will fit any model when used with a face plate adaptor but the double din larger radios only fit models with a big enough aperture in the dashboard.
The side with inputs for the speaker from the car only has four inputs. Leaving my greens and purples not plugged in and thus only the front speakers work. How Can I connect it so all four speakers work? Or is there an additional cable I can use to convert it. Cheers
The greens and purples cables are for rear speakers,on your car it sounds like it's not fitted with rears, this is very common on Polo & Golf models, simply shine a torch through the rear speaker grill and you will see it has no speaker behind. Rear speakers can be added but will need wiring through because you wiring loom is devoid of the needed cabling.
The radio slot being the face plate is 113mm high which is standard double din height, most of the VW branded radios have moulded fronts that only fit the variant of car model they came from. Maybe look at some aftermarket double din radios instead.
sorry for the next question, for the fuse box i have to seek for a 12v socket which turn to 0 when i tour off right? and i still have the chance to turn on the radio with the engine off?
You could try Ebay or Amazon? just check the model number of your radio before buying. Example - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Einbau-Block-Schalter-Adapter-Kabel-Auto-Radio-fur-RCD-510-RNS-315-RCD-300/202136876645?hash=item2f104bf665:g:eJkAAOSwThddY8A8
brilliant video mate thank you! I wonder if you can help me with a few other things? Basically i want to remove the stock stereo from my 2013 polo and add a new one with better features/options. Once i buy the new one, i'm confident that i can use your video to do it alone. However, what should i take care of before i buy a new one? Do i need it to be an exact size, for example, or i have some wiggle room? Also, how difficult would it be for me to add a sub? Thank you in advance!
Radio's only come in two sizes, normal single din and the larger double din,if your Polo has the larger radio slot in the dashboard then a double din will be fine or you could use a single din with a pocket or blanking plate to fill the remaining gap. As for a sub most aftermarket head units have whats called 'pre outs' as long as you have a set of those on the rear and a blue wire coming out the back of the new radio your good to go. In this day and age I can't see any new head units not having those features.
thanks so much PJ. The radio in currently is this beast. From what you've said its a 'double din'-would it still be easy to pop out? looks a hassle to me but i'm a beginner haha! www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/car-entertainment/1197601d1390883315-diy-rcd-510-head-unit-upgrade-vw-vento-polo-imageuploadedbyteambhp1390883311.852642.jpg

It is difficult to understand for me because my radio disconnect only light and air condiction in steering panel, but every other functions in this panel works. Does anyone know why?
I followed every step, but now the radio doesn't come on when key is off, only turns on when ignition is on
On the new radio put both yellow and red to red.
This will power the radio constantly, just make sure to relive the face plate or risk flat battery.
I have a Pioneer DEH3900BT only my radio keeps playing without a key
Your radio is wired to a permanent live, at the back you will have a yellow power wire and a red power wire, currently both are going to constant live but to make it go off with the ignition you need the red wire to go to a switched supply.
what is the name of such a cable

Yes 2010 is on a quadlock wiring harness and has a fakra aerial connection so will be pretty simple to do with the correct adapters.

Would it fit the bigger sized radio from other models?
The radio slot being the face plate is 113mm high which is standard double din height, most of the VW branded radios have moulded fronts that only fit the variant of car model they came from.
Maybe look at some aftermarket double din radios instead.
is this procedure valid for a 2011 model too?
Yes 2011 model is valid.
sorry for the next question, for the fuse box i have to seek for a 12v socket which turn to 0 when i tour off right? and i still have the chance to turn on the radio with the engine off?
No radio will be off when engine off. To make radio work with engine off put yellow and red power wires to a constant power supply.
@@PJsprojects how it get done can you ples give the details of it
Hi, were do i get the USB port on my Vw polo sedan 2013??
You could try Ebay or Amazon? just check the model number of your radio before buying. Example - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Einbau-Block-Schalter-Adapter-Kabel-Auto-Radio-fur-RCD-510-RNS-315-RCD-300/202136876645?hash=item2f104bf665:g:eJkAAOSwThddY8A8
does anyone know what kind of power cable i need to run from the fuse tap to the red power cable? Thanks.
12 to 15amp cable with a 10amp fuse near the source.
brilliant video mate thank you!

Yep,double din,you just need a fascia kit, cable adaptor and FM aerial adaptor for that.
where do i find those power wires you used to connect it to the fuse box

Nope,none at all needed.
@@Ben-yn5lm it's it possible to use wires instant of that fuse plug because I can not find it ?
Where did you get the fascia from?
I get them in bulk due to this being a company job but it's easy enough to find them at most car shops,Amazon or Ebay. Example - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Polo-MK5-2009-2014-Car-Stereo-Radio-Double-Din-Fascia-Facia-Panel-CT24VW06/253112758318?hash=item3aeeb2302e:g:br8AAOSwFalcboPY
What is the panel called at 3:50 can i get it on eBay?
He Shows it at 0:37
What extras do you need to buy for it
Nothing apart from what I list in the video.
Good video but looks long job and difficult
Wow. It's a 10 minute job.
I replaced my clutch today.
Please can anyone tell me does this radio reads mp3 files.
The standard radio is just a cd player so won't read MP3 files on a disk.
🎉❤
A
Plastic tools needed for plastic cars. See, older cars had actual parts, not thin plastics shaped to just look like real. Ok, I have an MK3 Golf... and I hate thin cheap plastic craps.
Thank you very much. 👍👌👌👌❤️
