This is the absolute example of how a perfect live performance sounds. Perfect leading vocals, perfect backing vocals, perfect sound mix, the result is even better than the studio version. Pure excellence! And the song is so sweet and Johanna is so unbelievably charming! This would have made such a great winner! Too bad that 4 winner entries crashed into each other in the same year. Iceland, Norway, France and Estonia all deserved to win. 2009 was such a unique year!
So true. Australia here - and still remember getting goosebumps watching her performance. I could not believe what a FLAWLESS live performance it was - like beyond perfection. Even better than the studio version, which is still amazing. Rare for a live performance to actually be that good. I so wanted this to win, but like you said, it was such a rare year.
Yay, I'm not alone! :D No, but really: I've found his song irritating from day one. It's annoying because it feels like a song I _should_ like, but there's something about the way he sings that just gets on my nerves. It's eight years later and I'm still sad that this song didn't win.
One of the best Nordic entries ever. Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark have all gotten their fame. I really hope Iceland gets it in the coming years.
This is my favourite Eurovision song ever - and not just the song, but the musicality of both the soloist and the backing group, the costumes, and the wonderful staging. After last night's 2024 display of raucous shouting, writhing, thrashing about, and general shock tactics, I don't think the event deserves the title "Song Contest" any more - and I deeply regret it. It used to be one of my favourite events of the year.
Where are such quality songs, vocals and stage? A crystal clear voice, backing vocals, support, choreography, costume straight out of a fairy tale, I want the old Eurovision.
I remember I was a kid and was so amazed looking at her... Felt like falling in love by watching her... Many years passed since then and I still remember her entry
We have to admit that the stage design really helped the song to be even more romantic and beautiful, it is a great song, Russians put to much money in organising the Eurovision and building this stage, at the time it was on a very high level compared to other contests
One of greatest eurovision songs and singers. And her follow up song "slow down" should have respresented Iceland a few years later. Please Yohanna come back to eurovision again.
I have been watching EUrovision since 2008. As to me it is the best song. I loved it in 2009 and still loving. Warm greetings to Iceland from Azerbaijan😊
Yohanna is so beautiful. I think that will be very difficult to the icelandic singers to reach an amazing and beautiful song like this. I'm in love forever with this girl peformance and song... for my the real winner of 2009 :) Greetings to Reykjavik from Mexico :)
One of our best entries ever, and so above the standard of what we usually send. Very special, and Yohanna nailed the performance (both times!). We were unlucky to go up against Rybak that year, but I will always be proud of this effort.
She also could have won in 2010. This is far superior than Satellite both in terms of song and vocal performance. I don't know if I am in the minority, but I am of the opinion that Satellite is quite a mediocre song, Lena can't sing to save her life and her accent, enunciation, or whatever is very annoying.
I loved this song and wanted her to win. Just watched the Eurovision movie on Netflix and thought of the song. Iceland is also one of my most favourite countries I visited while I lived in London.
I am absolutely delighted that this song popped up while I was browsing RUclips. I used to play this song over and over again, as Yohanna was my choice for #1 at Eurovision 2009. It was a beautiful song, sung by a beautiful young woman with an amazing voice. She is still #1 to me.
@@arnibararson I know in Iceland it is spelt with a J. In Ukraine, there is no J, so Julia is Юлія which is pronounced in Ukraine as Ulia. In Ukraine, again as there is no J, Johanna is spelt Йоганна and pronounced as Yohanna. If you look up Johanna on google search, you get the meaning of the name, Johanna, on wikipedia, and as a baby name and people named Johanna, but nowhere does it show an Icelandic singer. However, if you look up Yohanna, it comes with picture of her, a wikipedia site, a list of RUclips videos and various sites all of which are about Yohanna. So pardon me for spelling it the same as the rest of the world.
@@jakethehud and also I am on the icelandic verision of google and you are your verision of google . I googled her with a j and she pood upp but it could be difrent in your contry and the rest of eouope. If I looking for her on spotify she poopt as both just try it.
@@arnibararson There is definitely a difference. I looked up Yohanna on Spotify and Yohanna Seifu comes up as the top result, with her picture and 4 songs, 2 by Seifu and 2 by different artist. Yohanna shows up on the artist line with her picture and just says "artist." If I didn't know what she looked like, I would have passed it by. When I looked her up under Johanna, Johann Sebastian Bach comes up , with his picture, and underneath, it features 4 of his songs. Beside his picture are 4 songs, that are by 4 different artist, whose song titles were Johanna. Johanna does not come up at all. WOW! My apology.
2:40 This moment is the best from the entire competition. When I listen this moment I fell in love with her. The winner for me. My favourite song from the entire ESC, then angel and then my secret combination. I think she should have received more points than Alexander Rybak. The most robbed contestant from all Esc. PS Yohanna one of the most beautiful women in the ESC.
I’m sorry but I’m still upset she didn’t win. This performance was absolutely breathtaking. Rybak is very talented, for me he was 3rd.. but Yohanna deserved to win 🥰
I've been wathcing the eurovision ever since 2006 and still think that this is one of the best songs ever during the 2000s. She did deserve to win that year.
Sorry, Alexander. But this is the only song in the ESC hisotry that made me cry, this is the most beutiful ballad in the history of ESC. Definetly the right winner of 2009
This was my pick to win in 2009. I thought Reykjavik 2010, but it wasn't to be. I still love this song though and hope to see Yohanna back on the Eurovision stage some day.
А я, ведь, до сих пор помню и эту песню, и ее платье, и фон. Конечно, Рыбак тогда был, действительно, достойнейшим, однако, было в этом номере свое очарование. Очень сказочно, мечтательно и светло.
10 years on, this song still sends chills through me.
True, goosebumps every time I hear this song
chills means arabs and balkans correct ?
Es impresionante su talento ❤
I WANT TO SEE HER AGAIN IN ESC.
Me too ! Ahaha
yeah me too, she has a beautiful voice.
+Penelopa Smrček She will #MakeIcelandGreatAgain (They were already great but I mean Iceland should win.)
We had the chance to send her again in 2011 with the amazing "Slow Down", but we blew it.
She has tried sooo many times to return
This is the absolute example of how a perfect live performance sounds. Perfect leading vocals, perfect backing vocals, perfect sound mix, the result is even better than the studio version. Pure excellence!

Tbh half the entries deserved to win in 2009
The best Icelandic entry ever. The real winner
That's true! The fiddler was and is just irritating!

but let's be real.. Iceland wouldnt have been able to host the competition in 2010. they should have won in 2012 or 2016 though.
Iceland was the best 💙💙💙
One of the best Nordic entries ever. Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark have all gotten their fame. I really hope Iceland gets it in the coming years.
This is the best song in the Eurovision that never won. Yohanna sang like an angel.
One of the best songs in the history of Eurovision!
Agreed
Its this and Euphoria for me! The best
I'm from Russia and I remember in 2009 this song was played everywhere here for at least a year after the ESC. We loved it so much
Thank you - We here in Iceland knew how much you loved it.
This is my favourite Eurovision song ever - and not just the song, but the musicality of both the soloist and the backing group, the costumes, and the wonderful staging. I WANTED HER TO WIN SO MUCH!!! One of the best entries in Eurovision history. Love from Greece

Europe culture is rotten down and infested by alphabet-person's who can't sing
I remember I was a kid and was so amazed looking at her... Felt like falling in love by watching her... Many years passed since then and I still remember her entry

Yeah. This stage, not a joke, has 1/3rd of the world’s LCD screens existing at the time
The moment of the dolphin is magical
Random fact: Her dress is now located in the Eurovision Museum in Iceland!
Wow
Is it true?
For me it is the most beautiful ESC song ever
Fairytale was better but this song is also perfect, 2009 was the best year ever
I think the best year is 2009. Look at these; fairytale, İs it true, always, düm tek tek. They are masterpieces. I wanna go back 2009 😭😭
You forgot to mention Patricia Kass
same
One of greatest eurovision songs and singers. And her follow up song "slow down" should have respresented Iceland a few years later. Please Yohanna come back to eurovision again.
After all these years , still a good one.
Love from Turkey
🤍🇹🇷
I have been watching EUrovision since 2008. As to me it is the best song. I loved it in 2009 and still loving. Warm greetings to Iceland from Azerbaijan😊
I really wish yohanna had competed in a different year! I loved it all iceland! Well done!
10 years after and I keep the faith that Yohanna comes back to save Iceland.YOHANNA COME BACK PLEASE!!!!!!
Wow, haven't listened to this in 12 years and I still somehow remember ALL the lyrics! One of the best Eurovision songs ever!
She has such a stunning voice! One of my favourite entries ever. Bring back Yohanna💓
This song deserved to win SERIOUSLY because it had emotions, love, sorrow 😭😭😭
This song is just amazing and so beautiful! To me it´s one of the top 3 from that edition in 2009!
The best stage of all years! Amazing screens AND lights.
Some people said that Island 2020 had a fantastic song and number. I watched half of it and went straight to this video! Finely I can breath again!
Still my favorite singer of all Eurovision History. So sweet voice and she's so pretty. Please send her back.
Only 19 years old! Wow!!!
18

The best eurovision song ever and forever.
This is my ALL TIME eurovision favourite, absolutely fantastic!! I was gutted that she didn't win, but it is a song that did very well and rightly so
This song unfortunately was far too classy for Eurovision and therefore did not win. Yohanna was robbed!!
After 9 years this masterpiece make me cry again 💋💟
Yohanna is so beautiful. I think that will be very difficult to the icelandic singers to reach an amazing and beautiful song like this. I'm in love forever with this girl peformance and song... for my the real winner of 2009 :) Greetings to Reykjavik from Mexico :)
Yohanna is beautiful
I❤ Yohanna & Hera Björk ❤
One of my absolute favorite ESC songs. Iceland should have won back then. Hope to hear her again in the future.
That's a really beautiful song!
Nothing against Norway and Alex (he was great), but seriously... IS IT TRUE??? YOHANNA CAME 2ND??? THIS IS A REAL WINNER IN MY EYES... MASTERPIECE 💙💙💙
Greatest ballad ever, sweetest voice ever, prettiest singer ever. Simply the best performance in the whole ESC history.
Love this song. Please, Yohanna, come back with other awesome song like this...
One of our best entries ever, and so above the standard of what we usually send. Very special, and Yohanna nailed the performance (both times!). We were unlucky to go up against Rybak that year, but I will always be proud of this effort.
I love almost every single Icelandic entry! :D
She should have won
sadly she participated in the wrong year
MrAbuyoyoman in 2011 she had won
Jan Stalleicken you're totally right!
Yeah 2011 was such a weak year this would've won in a landslide. But of course she participated in one of the strongest ESC year in recent history :((
rollX yes, 2009 Norway's, Azerbaijan's, Turkey's, United Kingdom's and Estonia's entries were very strong on that year.
She also could have won in 2010. This is far superior than Satellite both in terms of song and vocal performance. I don't know if I am in the minority, but I am of the opinion that Satellite is quite a mediocre song, Lena can't sing to save her life and her accent, enunciation, or whatever is very annoying.
Sweetness, beauty, she seems to come out of a fairy tale and I love the song as well. She would have won if she had represented any other country.
I loved this song and wanted her to win. Just watched the Eurovision movie on Netflix and thought of the song. Iceland is also one of my most favourite countries I visited while I lived in London.
Even though I love fairytale i still think Yohanna deserved it more - goosebumps after the first word ❤️ mindblowing
She was my winner this year ❤️
Bravo Yohanna....you, Selma and Birgitta the best of Iceland
One of my favourite songs of Eurovision!
First...I can't believe this was 10 years ago! OMG! Time fucking flies! Second , the performance and staging was ON POINT! What an EPIC moment!
Suddenly I remembered this song omg
Эта песня самый настоящий победитель.
Самая лучшая ❤❤❤
Of the best song eurovision I from Greece 🇮🇸🇬🇷

It was my favourite and still listening in 2018. Beautiful voice and beautiful song!
This one million times better than the studio version!!!! Love it!!!
SHE WAS ONLY 18 HERE????!?!?!
She was a child star in Iceland, so she got an early start with her career.

And Now She Was 27?!!
I thought 25 years old ..
She was 19 :)
For sure is the best song ever! Greetinhs from Romania!

One of the best ever!!!!
Please Iceland send her to Eurovision 2017 🙏
You forgot what happened when Iceland sent the same artists as before? Jonsi (18th -> 20th) and Greta (20th -> 14th in the semi)?
+Collision SC- but she is amazing and have great vocals so i think she will do good
Same can be applied for greta.... I still feel bad for her
+Collision SC- yeah I know
Selma can also be mentioned (2nd -> 16th in semi-final)
One thing is sure : If Norway's Alexander wasn't participating in 2009, Iceland would be the winner. Amazing song and performance.
This is the cause I fell in love with Iceland !
She's beautiful!
Iceland have BEST musics in Eurovision❣❣❣Love from Slovakia
im surprised that Iceland has not won yet
