    Just built a 12V 280AH for a boat with a 300 A BMS, but couldn't figure out why I had only 3.5 V between B+ and P -, now I know - thank You!
    Btw, Daly gave me the link to your video when I asked for explanations.

    • @SolarEngineering
      @SolarEngineering  2 года назад +2

      you need to activate BMS, try this:
      - short P- and B-
      - apply charge to B+ and P-
      one of these should activate BMS.
      that's funny that Daly providing a link to this video, it's 2nd time when I hear that BMS seller/manufacturer providing my videos as instruction for BMSs.

      If you lose your anchor you can always sub in the bms, 🙂. I used a 60amp BMS on a 280amp pack. My inverter has low voltage cutoff and connected direct to battery busbar. BMS is on 12v circuit.

    Thanks for the video. Can you help me understand, is a bms the only way to customize depth of discharge? For example if I want to only run battery from 20-80% you set the high and low voltage cutoffs at 20 and 80% voltages? What if I want to do this with batteries that have built in BMS that I can’t customize?

    • @SolarEngineering
      @SolarEngineering  2 года назад +1

      Hi, you could set 20-80% on the charger and inverter as well. BMS is 2nd line of defense. However, if you have a basic inverter that doesn't have the ability to set up cut-off voltage, then BMS should control it.
      Sometimes batteries with built-in BMS have ability to adjust settings via bluetooth.

      @@sirdiesel9019 ok, I think it would be best if you install all in one system, something like Renogy 48V 3500W or similar. Then you'll need 48V battery bank (I have a video on this channel on how to build it).
      Solar panels and batteries will be connected to Inverter/Charger, it's going to be the simplest setup. Also almost every all-in-one inverters/chargers are capable to charge batteries from grid in case you don't have enough solar energy.
      I think the next step would be to calculate how big a battery bank you need.

    Looking forward to follow-up vid. My experience with Daly is two opposites. You already mostly covered the Pros, apart from the obvious Pro's.
    My added Con's;
    Incompetent Service Support. You cannot talk to a real Engineer at Daly because Rep claims Engineering can't speak English, while Rep don't understand Electricity.
    Pre 2021 Versions has horrible PC GUI without English Manual & also has the fundamental flaw to stop Balancing once Charging Current drops below X Value, when the Cells becomes fully charged, and the Balancing should really kick in. What's the point of setting Balance MinOpenV if it is over-ruled by Charge Current ?... So, complete failure for pre-version balancing. What I'm pointing out, is, a faulty Feature is dangerous. Then, rather leave the Feature out the final Product & stop misleading the Buyer. (Your Version shouldn't have this issue.)
    Some Daly BMS also has undersized Wiring. The one in your Vid should be good (35x2x8 = 560Amp).
    '21 Ver has useless SOC because Software does not keep in mind natural SOC Loss in Cells & Float Top-up Charge. Yet, it takes up most Smartphone Screen space.
    I also found the Max & Min & Individual Cell V to be accurately displayed but the complete opposite for Ave Cell V. I mean, how difficult can it be to add the Cell V's & divide by Cell Amount ...
    Can you confirm DIY Fan replacement possible ? I mean, just opinion - don't need to disassemble anything on your BMS.

    • @SolarEngineering
      @SolarEngineering  2 года назад +1

      The fan could be replaced, but wires need to be resoldered. It could be hard to do, because wires are really thin.
