That is not an Ultramarine pauldron. That is a Deathwatch pauldron. The Deathwatch is comprised of marines from many different chapters. In the first tutorial mission in this game, the dead Kill Team members you come across have pauldrons on their other shoulder showing their original chapter. If I recall, we had a Dark Angel, a Black Templar, a Space Wolf, and a Blood Angel. Titus is an Ultramarine, but instead of wearing his chapter marking like the others do, he wears a plain black pauldron, i.e. a 'Black Shield'. Brothers can be seconded to the Deathwatch for various reasons. Generally it is an honour to be seconded to the Deathwatch, but in some cases, like what happened with Titus, they're sent there because they're under suspicion, so the Inquisition keeps an eye on them there. As well, sometimes chapters send their 'problematic' brothers there as a means to get rid of them. Marines serving in the Deathwatch may choose to be a Black Shield because they no longer wish to be connected to their original chapter, like if the chapter turned traitor or went renegade, or it could be because it could bring shame or dishonor to their chapter through association with the brother's past actions. Anyway, all Deathwatch marines wear that pauldron while actively serving in the Deathwatch, and they have the option to keep wearing it as a mark of honour when they return to their original chapter. Edit: I also wanted to say, I completely agree with your choice of chapter. The Imperial Fists are my favourite. Don't let anyone give you shit for the glorious colours our Primarch Rogal Dorn also wore. We wear such an obvious yellow to declare to the enemy that we are here, and that we do not fear them.
